Midday Dreams by Belo Cipriani

Belo Cipriani (Blind: A Memoir) returns with a magical short story that whisks readers away to another time, another place.

In the lyrical “Midday Dreams,” Cipriani takes his readers to a lush, tropical island that isn't the paradise it might appear to be. There, the devout Izabel learns to open her heart to love those who don't live and believe as she does.

Infused with prophetic dreams and magical realism, “Midday Dreams” will surely find its way into your heart.

Midday Dreams is the story of Izabel and her family, who live in poverty in Portugal in the 1940’s. Izabel is worried about her family as they have trouble affording food and her husband cannot find work. Through visions, Izabel begins to see that there may be new opportunities for her and her family, and starts to see these things come true. I thought that the author did an amazing job of bringing Izabel’s world to life. He also manages to make Izabel’s transformation from judging those who have lived in a way she doesn’t support, into someone who realizes that being loving and accepting is more important feel real and earned in this short story. I received a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

I am an avid reader and I have to be honest, probably the most horrible story.  I am disappointed spending 99 cents on this.  Don't waste your time.

The  author, Belo Cipriani, did a great job writing a story about the difficult task of families facing adversity. This story takes place at a different time and on an island which, in the past, had been a paradise. But as difficult times have unfolded, Izabel and her family must make choices so that they can survive. These were gut-wrenching decisions that would take her away from other members of her extended family.  What I really liked about this story was the fact that this family didn't give up and fall apart during the difficult times. Family was revered as something very special and when bad things happened, forgiveness was found. I would have loved for the story to continue to see it unfold. I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Izabel and her family are having a tough time surviving. Plus she finds our her brother is gay. Her brother and his partner offer hope to Izabel but can she overcome her prejudice to accept their help. I found this to be a very nice short story; however I would have liked it to be a little longer. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed this short story about Izabel and the choices she had to make, both regarding what step to take next in life to best support her family as well as how she chose to handle a surprising new fact about her brother. The tale tied together very well and had enough small twists to capture and keep my interest. I would enjoy a longer story about these characters, perhaps finding out how their future turns out or maybe more on their backstory before the time covered in the short story. I received a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

This was a pleasant little short story. The author did an okay job of developing the characters and a story line in a  short period of time, but I would have liked a bit more back story.  I realize that this was a short story, but I was left wanting a bit more information about the characters and how they came to be in their situation. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was a very short story. The story line is a great one with, Don't judge others. With so many opinions on how others live, this book sheds a light on loving others no matter the life they choose live. I was only sad that there wasn't any more to read to the story. I love short stories where I'm yearning for more but with this book I felt more of, That's it!?!? *** I received a free copy for an honest opinion**

This was a real surprise and an awesome read. The characters really came alive for me and left me wanting more. The descriptions of the Sao Miguel Island makes me want to visit the Azores soon. Izabel is pioneering and strong woman who puts her family's needs above her personal beliefs.
