Four years ago, Cate’s entire life changed when she discovered she was the daughter of a supersoldier. But Jim Morgan’s overprotectiveness has pushed her away. These days, she’s working as a freelance photographer and living the dangerous life Jim never wanted for her.

As Morgan’s operatives rally together on a revenge mission, they’re faced with new alliances and old heartaches. Cate is forced to work with David “Ash” Ashton, the man who broke her heart two years ago, while Liam Macgregor and Sullivan Port resurface after years apart to finally try to deal with everything they’d left unsaid.
Soon it’s all-out war between the cartel and the mercenaries—with two couples caught in the middle of the blood feud. Love and redemption are within their reach...but first, they have to make it home alive.

## FAN-freaking-TASTIC. Wow. Once again, Elle Kennedy delivers a hot romantic suspense. I loved this book. We actually get double the pleasure because there are 2 couples in this story. Cate & Ash, and FINALLY Liam & Sully. Yay. I've been waiting for these two to get their sh*t together for a couple of years now. Liam and Sully have sizzling chemistry and they finally get their story (with a few bumps in the road). I loved the suspenseful plot as well. It flowed beautifully and was unputdownable. This series has been one of my very favorites for sure. Note to Ms. Kennedy: you keep writing, I'll keep buying. Win-win.

Yeah the whole I love you, I don't love you, come back, whaa whaa part kinnnnnnnda got annoying. (I'm not a big fan of adult tantrums..) But the rest I really loved. So I loved to hate it and I hated that I still loved it yet I was still totally thrilled we got another KI book. (Although in the next installment can our heroine be a little ... more? Please?) Its worth the read, I mean, hey, everyone went for it in 50 so why not? I still love you Kennedy! I'll be here for the next one.

Cate, Morgan’s daughter, quit college and moved onto photography, taking her all over the world, much to Morgan’s disappointment. He wanted Cate to stay in college, graduate, meet a nice (boring) man, and settle down. Morgan didn’t want his mercenary soldiers anywhere near his daughter. Unfortunately for Mogan, years at the compound meant that Cate formed a friendship and powerful attraction to the youngest merc of his team: David “Ash” Ashton. They got each other, connecting as friends before the attraction ever came into play. But every time Cate would see the heat creep into Ash’s eyes, he’d shut it down and run for cover. Finally, when Cate laid herself bare, Ash turned her away and broke her heart. Two years later she’s out on her own, loving her work and trying to forget she ever met Ash. That is until Cate snaps a photo and all hell breaks loose. Now Ash is back in her life trying to protect her whether she wants him there or not. Ash has had it bad for Cate, Morgan’s daughter since she was seventeen and very off limits. She’s now of age at twenty-one, but Morgan, his boss, has made it clear that he wants better for his daughter. Maybe if it were any other man Ash wouldn’t care, but Morgan accepted him into his band of men, became like a father he never had, so his approval means a lot. What is and isn’t important quickly clarifies for Ash when Cate’s life is at stake. He burns for Cate, especially at the thought of losing her forever! Will she take a chance on him after the way he treated her? Liam and Sully have been dancing around each other in several books. Their story has been quite tumultuous. Every time I thought the walls would come down, some wrench would get thrown in the works. Engaging in several threesomes over the years, they’ve got a look at each other in the height of passion and their attraction just grew and magnified from there. The sexual tension between them was palpable! Liam’s traditional upbringing was an issue. He didn’t know how his family would take the news that he’s bisexual. Sully, on the other hand, had past demons that made committing to a relationship seem impossible. I was thoroughly ready for these two to finally sort everything out and come together, and it was lovely! Oh, unrequited romance! Both are filled with longing and pain from perceived rejection! With Elle Kennedy you just know the payoff is gonna be really hot, and really good! She definitely knows how to turn up the heat! In between the adrenaline rush from the life and death situations these two couples face, they manage to get some very sexy alone time! I was really worried for the team, hoping none of my favorite characters would bite the dust, because everyone was a target to this psycho killer! The suspense part of this romantic suspense kept me on the edge of my seat at times! I’ve loved the Killer Instincts series from the beginning, so I have bittersweet emotions knowing this is the last book. On one hand, I’m thrilled to finally get Sully and Liam’s and Cate and Ash’s romances, but I’m sad to say goodbye! Midnight Target was everything I wanted, especially in Sully and Liam’s case, and the epilogue was wonderful! If you haven’t had a chance to read this series, this is the perfect time to pick it up! All the books are out! Each couple had an exciting and passionate story, and who doesn’t love a good series binge read?!

I don't know if I can begin to even tell you how much I've enjoyed this series, and while I've been anxiously awaiting Midnight Target, the final book in the series, it is bittersweet, because this is the last one, and I really hate to see the series end. That said, Elle Kennedy ends the series with a bang. Midnight Target is Cate and Ash's story, and what a story it is. For fans of the series, you'll also be glad to know that Sully and Liam's story is also incorporated within this one, so for those of us who have been waiting for this, it is oh so awesome...and on so hot. In Midnight Target, Cate has had it up to her eyeballs with her father, Jim Morgan, and his overprotectivness, to the point that she rarely goes home. That fact, combined with the fact that she wants nothing to do with Ash, especially after the way he acted towards her last time she saw him when she put everything right out there, and yet he crushed her heart, has kept Cate away from what she has considered her family, for quite some time. When she suddenly finds herself in the middle of some major danger, as well equipped and trained as she is to deal with that, she finds that only dear old dad and his band of merry....or I guess I should say mercs, can help her out of the fix she finds herself in. Of course, Ash, who has denied his feelings out of what he has convinced himself is repsect for her dad, is at the forefront of this mission. He's been in love with her for years, and when he finds out she's in danger, it's all he can do not to go charging in like a bull seeing red. Of course Jim Morgan's wife, Nicole, and Cate's step-mom AKA the Queen of Assasins, along with her badass beauties end up involed as well. During the course of the novel you get to connect with all the characters in the previous books that we've come to know and love, making this last novel perfect giving you a glimpse of everyone lives and letting you see how they are all doing as the series comes to a close. Midnight Target is filled with non-stop action, hot romance, as well as plenty of danger and suspense. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and loved how Elle Kennedy brought everything together, including an elpilogue, bringing an an epic ending to and epic series. Midnight Target is a must read for fans of the series, and if you've not started this one yet, it is definitely something you will want to carve out time for.

Unequivocal five stars! Oh wow! So often the final book in the series is a leetle bit of a let down, too much of an ensemble curtain call and not enough plot - not this time. Elle Kennedy has knocked it out of the park with the finale to what has been a fantastic series. We get not one but two romances, both of which have been brewing for some time and both of which are totally perfect. We get a totally evil baddie who scared the c&%p out of me, he was really vicious and nasty and so were the rest of his family. We get to see all the old characters again in a mission in a war-torn part of South America. There is terrible tragedy, sadness and loss. Some great characters die. Farewell Holden, I really hoped you might find peace and love again but at least you are with your beloved Beth. And, because IT IS Elle Kennedy, there's also explosive, fan-your-face, hot-hot-hot sex and lots of it. So, the plot! Cate, Jim's Morgan's daughter that he only discovered a few years ago, is a photographer working in Guatana City, Guatana with a journalist who is writing a piece on the rapid decline of Guatana as rival drug cartels have overthrown law and order. Cate is trailing one of the corrupt politicians trying to find evidence of a hush-hush meeting involving former General Aguilar, however what she discovers when she reviews her photographs later is a picture Mateo Rivera, the head of a drugs cartel who everyone believed had been killed in a car bombing. Cate sends the photo to Jim for verification, who sends it to his source in the DEA, the next thing Cate's hotel is under siege and cartelists are killing women left, right and centre. There's a mole in the DEA and Rivera wants Cate dead. From the very start this is classic Killer Instincts, fast and furious, big action pieces, war rooms and flashy toys. Words can not express how happy this book made me, it was everything I love about this series. If you have read the others, you will love this one. If you haven't, why on earth not? There's hot DEA agents, Navy SEALs, Marines etc. There are scary assassins, drug cartels, international travel, espionage, hot sex and romance. Goodbye Jim Morgan and your team, I'll miss you all.

Review: MIDNIGHT TARGET (A Killer Instincts Novel) by Elle Kennedy Publication Date: April 25, 2017 Genre: Romantic Suspense Reviewed by: Reading in Pajamas/ Donna Rated 4.5 Stars Wow! What an action-packed finale to this series. It brought back all the players from the past, for an all-hands-on-deck mission. Since it was a rather tense situation, there wasn’t as much banter as usual, but enough to keep me happy. The story wasn’t just about the hot romance between Cate and Ash, it also pulled back the love affair with Liam and Sully. So, there is some M/M action – which I found was more romantic than Cate and Ash’s. I really enjoyed the drama, romance and happily-ever-after. *Review copy provided by Penguin in exchange for an honest review.

An explosive, long-running series wrap up filled with gun blazing action and two couples trying to stay alive while finding their way to happily ever after. I am positive that the readers who have been following the series are thrilled with this title, where they get to meet the characters from the previous stories, where everyone gets a little bit of screen time, where the loose ends are tied up, and the questions answered. The setting of the scenes is through enough that even a newbie to the series can enjoy it if the like new adult and/or male-male romance mixed into their suspense. The fiery and violent action against the cartel with constant twists and turns leaves numerous bodies behind, elevates the energy of the tale and brings tension to the scenes. The fact that Jim, the superman, got hurt rattles everyone involved. Cate and Ash had battled with the attraction they feel for each other ever since they met. I liked Ash, he was a genuine, southern charmer, and while a fierce warrior, he had a mellow heart to Cate. Cate drove me to bonkers with her immaturity. I hoped she would have grown and developed during the story but that hope was in vain, even in the epilog she managed to get an eye roll from me. She is young and inexperienced to be dealing in the world where she seemed to think she was an expert in. The drama around her is constant and mostly created by her, while she doesn't take responsibility for it. I am not a fan of young adult stories so take that into consideration, I am sure the fans of the genre finds the angst just perfect. Sullivan and Liam's romance came as a surprise for me, somehow I missed the notion of the male-male romance with the plot. It is the first in that genre that I have read, and I think it was done in a fabulous way. The intensity of the feelings, the roughness of two alpha males colliding, the hesitation of coming out, the catholic background, it all made a realistic storyline that was some of the best parts of the book as a whole. The language is rough, the action is deadly, the passion is blatant, the life as a mercenary unpredictable and dangerous giving the plot constant spins and turns. ~ Three Spoons

This review was written by Marie for a guest review post on Ever After Book Reviews blog: When it comes to authors who know how to write a damn good story, Ms. Kennedy is one that takes the cake. So, obviously, when Midnight Target was an option, I snatched it up immediately! Knowing that this series is coming to a close, I was anxious to get my hands on it and dig right in. I began the book and I was immediately hooked. From the beginning, it draws you in, starting off with one hell of a bang! From there, it evolves in to an exciting thrill ride that left me frantically turning pages, desperate to know how the story would eventually pan out. Of course, I was never, at any point, disappointed. I enjoyed reading Cate and Ash’s story. It was a great way to tie their relationship together, and watching it unfold through the creative talents of Ms. Kennedy made it all the better. And while I know their story was the main focus in Midnight Target, they weren’t the ONLY focus. I actually really enjoyed that aspect, and wish more authors would take note of how to successfully tell more than one story at a time. That being said, it made me infinitely happy that I was able to witness Liam and Sully’s story also. It was about time, and quite frankly, I found it far more romantic than Cate and Ash! As is the usual with books from this series, Ms. Kennedy has done an outstanding job. It’s a fast-paced, wonderful story with phenomenal, well-developed characters. It’s bittersweet that the series has to come to an end, but I can honestly say that this was one hell of a ride. ***I voluntarily read a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. 4.25 stars--MIDNIGHT TARGET is the eighth (and final?) instalment in Elle Kennedy’s contemporary, adult KILLER INSTINCTS romantic, suspense series focusing on an elite group of highly trained men and women-mercenaries for hire. The focus is on the search for a notorious drug lord, once thought to be dead, who has threatened Cate’s life, and on two on-going relationships: Cate Morgan and David ‘Ash’ Ashton, and Liam Macgregor and Sullivan Port-both relationships struggling with unrequited feelings and emotions. MIDNIGHT TARGET can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from previous story lines is revealed where necessary. WARNING: If you have never read Elle Kennedy’s Killer Instinct series be forewarned, MIDNIGHT TARGET contains graphic scenes of violence, death and blood shed, and may not be suitable for all readers. The mercenaries and assassins are hired to do a job and cannot let emotions and personal feelings get in the way. These men and women do NOT kill the innocent –they are hired to take down the evil within our societies and sometimes the evil may be family, friend or someone caught up in a bad situation. NOTE: MIDNIGHT TARGET contains graphic scenes of M/M sexual situations, language and text. Told from several third person points of view including memories from the past, MIDNIGHT TARGET follows Jim Morgan’s elite team of mercenaries as they set out to rescue his daughter Cate, a woman caught in a South American country on the verge of civil war. As a photographer Cate follows the stories including the very real possibility that the notorious leader of a vicious drug cartel is alive and well in Guatana City, Guatana. Capturing the evidence that she needs, Cate finds herself targeted by the very man she was hoping to find, and is in desperate need of a rescue on the run. Enter David ‘Ash’ Ashton, the man that Cate has always loved but the man that broke her heart one too many time. What ensues is the search for the man in question, and the rebuilding of a friendship and romance between Cate and Ash. Most of Jim Morgan’s mercenaries play secondary and supporting roles including several soldiers who are battling with personal issues of pain and loss. Liam and Sully’s bromance struggles with misperceptions, and the possibility of preconceived notions. Sully and Liam’s return to the team is a welcome reception but the couple in question continue to struggle with the rift in their one-time friendship. MIDNIGHT TARGET is a story of second-chances, of sorts, for two couples pulled apart by unrequited love. Ash tries to keep his distance from the woman he loves-a woman who happens to be the boss’s daughter and off limits in the eyes of her father. Cate is a strong, independent young woman whose over protective father has pushed our heroine too fast, and too far but her need to be included yet independent is the catalyst to much of the story line premise. Sully and Liam’s relationship struggles with their bi-sexuality, past indiscretions, Sully’s months in captivity and abuse at the hands of his captors, and the fear of rejection and judgment by family and friends. Jim Morgan’s mercenaries are willing to risk everything for the people they love but sometimes risking it all means not succeeding to survive. The premise is intriguing, engaging and fascinating; the characters are colorful, animated, passionate and tormented; the romances are seductive and fated.
