Midsummer Sweetheart by Katy Regnery

Erik Lindstrom never had much faith in love. He saw his parents’ marriage collapse and vowed to avoid the same anguish himself. His fiercely protective nature drew him to a career in law enforcement, where he’s managed to keep himself and his heart safe…until now.

Katrin Svenson is in danger. After leaving her home in secret, her only hope for safety seems to lie in the hands of a man who has steeled himself against her deep blue eyes and sunny smile. But sparks fly between the nurse and her handsome protector, and those sparks become fire as Katrin melts the ice surrounding Erik’s heart. That fire will ward off the dark force determined to keep their sweet midsummer nights from being an impossibly perfect forever.

4.5 Stars I am completely enamored with Katy Regnery’s writing! Her ability to draw the reader into her world with a beautiful story and flawed but wonderful characters is unique. Katrin is done. She no longer feels safe or happy in her small Montana town of Gardiner. She was left at the altar by Wade, her high school boyfriend turned fiance. Six months later she’s unable to move on as Wade insists on trying for another chance. He’s gone too far, so with the help of her family she makes the move up north to a new home and job. Erik is also running away. As the youngest son in the Lindstrom family he wants a different life than his father and brothers have as guides. As a favor to his sister Jenny (from By Proxy) and friend Ingrid, Erik agrees to take Katrin to her fresh start. On the way to their individual new starts a connection is made, one that scares Erik, yet a connection he’s terrified to lose. I’m not sure how Jose and Gabriella fit in this story. Her patois was frustrating, and secondary to the storyline. Their Sunday dinner/dates are fantastic. Awkward, sweet with the zing of new love- a love that Erik is trying to deny. The texting between them was so fun. I wanted to shake Erik at several different points, so hard headed and scared. His fear is so real, even crippling. Yet when it matters he finally does step up. His eyes, once opened, are able to see what really happened, allowing him to forgive. Katrin’s strength is admirable. Her refusal to settle, to go for the love and relationship she needs makes her a little bit of a bada$$. I adore the Swedish and Norwegian influences. The traditions and family ties frame this sweet and tender romance. Wonderful moments that will make up their unique love story.

Katy may have written an almost perfect guy. Eric is blond, blue eyed, strong and reads! Total swoon. Only bad part is that he doesn't want any relationships. He wants to keep Kat safe from the very beginning. Kat is really great too. She is forced to move & basically restart her life since her ex is stalking & threatening her. She starts spending time with Eric and they get to know each other. I am giving this book 4 out of 5 stars. You get summer romance with a little bit of action & suspense. You will fall in love with the characters and scenery in this book.

This is the second book in the Heart of Montana series. The story of Eric and Katrin. Eric is a commitment phobic and a non romantic. Katrin is coming out of an abusive relationship. Eric takes Katrin away from her town to keep her safe and start a new life away from her ex, as a favor to his sister. Not expecting sparks to fly to between these two. I loved the texting between these two, I was laughing out loud at times with their bantering. Loved this story, highly recommend.Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Midsummer Sweetheart is the second book of the Heart of Montana series by Katy Regnery. I loved this book so much that I hated for it to end!  The Heart of Montana series is set in a small town, so these are characters you can easily relate to. Katrin has been living in fear because of her ex-fiance. Erik has sworn off of committed relationships in order to protect himself from a broken heart. But the moment Erik and Katrin meet there is instant attraction. It’s an attraction they try to ignore. I loved the way they flirted with each other and I really enjoyed how the author included the text messages they sent to each other: “PS, no playing doctor” – Erik “See you Sunday. PS, don’t tell me what to do. PPS, what kind of a girl do you think I am anyway?” – Katrin “The kind every man wants to play doctor with” – Erik After I read this I felt the butterflies in my stomach, my heart was racing and I had the biggest grin – which I can imagine is how Katrin felt when she received Erik’s last text message! I was completely blown away with how great this story was! This had me laughing, swooning and crying – I loved everything about this book!! Midsummer Sweetheart has romance, drama, action, comedy and family unity – which may seem a lot in one story but this is so well written that it was perfectly meshed together. I was hooked from the beginning. The more I read from Katy Regnery, the more I am impressed with her writing! Midsummer Sweetheart is my favorite (so far) from this series and I can’t wait to read the next book! Even though this is the second book of the series it can be read as a standalone. Katy does a great job of including small bits of the first book, By Proxy, so that you can easily follow who the characters are. But once you read Midsummer Sweetheart you’ll fall in love with the Lindstroms and you will want to go back to read the other books! I highly recommend this book to everyone!! I received an ARC for a blog tour in exchange for an honest review.

Fantastic and Romantic! Nobody loves an epilogue more than I do. Epilogues can make or break a story for me and what I found with the Heart Of Montana series is that the author ends hers with a look ahead at the next character's story. When I finished by Proxy and discovered this book would be about the half Swede half Norwegian hottie Erik Lindstrom I was actually ecstatic. His character intrigued me the most in the closing if the first book when we discover he doesn't believe in love. Erik Lindstrom and Katrin Svenson are thrown together on an impromptu road trip after her drunken ex fiance breaks into her house and tries to kill her. Her family freaks out and arranges for Erik to drive Katrin up north to help a friend of her brothers build a small town clinic. Because Erik is on his way up to train with the Montana narcotics force he agrees to take her to get her away from her ex.  These two had such tough circumstances to overcome in order to be together. Erik being the baby of the family always wanted a love like he saw his parents had. He wanted to be the kind of husband and father his dad was until he watched helplessly as his mother lay dying, calling out for his father only to see him never show up. The stars in his eyes he had for his father died out when he believed his father had stopped loving his mother leaving a young Erik to think love didn't exist. He's made sure to guard his heart against love having kept women at arms length with casual flings never lasting long. He always thought he would end up just like his dad, hurting the woman he was supposed to love so he thought it best to just never get involved. Erik's story broke my heart but at the same time filled it with so much love for him. He was such a sweet guy to begin with. He had such a big heart when it came to his family and helping someone in need when it came to getting Katrin out of a bad situation. I freaking LOVED Erik! He was sweet, sexy and strong and although he was a tough guy to rope down he had a gentle side to him. He was more brains than brawn even though he wasn't lacking in the hottie department. he wasn't just window dressing basically, he actually had intelligence to go with those muscles and those are the guys that can melt a woman's drawers with the quickness! Katrin's story wasn't hard to sympathize with at all. She's a small town nurse who has been engaged to Wade, her high school sweetheart for a few years until he stood her up on their wedding day. When she tried to break things off with him he gets violent and tries to break into her house threatening to kill her. Katrin wasn't a damaged character who couldn't break the cycle of abuse because of any past tragedy. She was just a woman who thought Wade would change but gradually his behaviour worsened leaving her no choice but to leave. She wasn't a particularly strong character and she wasn't too soft either. Katrin was a great mixture of both because it took guts to uproot the life she had to start fresh and put distance between her and Wade. I admired her for that reason alone but her quiet spirit and soft spoken demeanor were traits I liked about her too. She knew when to put her foot down with Erik and when to let him sweat a little and I absolutely enjoyed watching her tease him a little bit.  One of the main things I enjoy about this author's writing style is her closed door policy on bedroom scenes. Not every author can pull off the "Fade To Black" but Regnery did such a great job developing the relationship between Erik and Katrin I didn't miss it with them. Call me voyeuristic but I normally like to get in on the action and see the passion and romance between a couple but with these two I enjoyed the "After Dinner Mint" pillow talk and that was satisfying enough for me. The build up of the slow and steady relationship between Erik and Katrin was another pleasant selling point for me. It wasn't instant although their attraction was the two characters were both trying to take things slowly. They took their time to get to know each other over dates and calling while they were apart. I thought I was going to melt to floor at how adorable they were together when they would talk to each other in their mixture of Swedish and Norwegian native languages. LOVED IT!   I can't forget to mention two of my favorite supporting characters, Jose and Gabrielle. Jose is Katrin's boss, the ex Marine Dr who is starting up the clinic and also ends up getting under Erik's skin after making eyes at Katrin. That was really fun to see because it was obvious that Jose had eyes only for Gabrielle. She was from the Caribbean and her accent alone was hilarious and sweet but her friendship with Katrin made my heart happy. Katrin needed someone to confide in and Gabrielle's unique way of handling things kept everyone on their toes. I would love to get a novella or a book about Jose and Gabrielle because their back story piqued my interest throughout this book.  Midsummer Sweetheart was the kind of story that made me believe in love again. The romance was very sweet and I greatly enjoyed seeing my favorite characters from the other books. I'm excited to see Erik's brother Lars get his book next because this guy is a huge jokester so it will be highly entertaining to watch a woman bring HIM to his knees I'm sure of it! This was the kind of book that sticks with you long after you read it. I have been thinking about Katrin and Erik for days and how their story turned out. It was a hard fought road for them both but it was very worth it in the end. I really loved this one and felt like the entire book was a breath of fresh air. It was exactly what I needed when I needed it with mild drama and plenty of endearing romance.
