This book would be great to read if students were discussing African American culture and dance. This book consists of a lot of words that belong in the African American culture.
I really enjoyed this book by Tynia Thomassie. I thought it taught girls to go after what they love to do as well as embrace their culture. I loved at the end how Mimi's family made her the lapis. I think this sends a good message to children and that is to embrace their culture and differences and be proud of them.
