Sometimes life can change in an instant and God has other plans for us. Based on a true story! Sometimes life can change in an instant. The plans that we had laid out in front of us, the goals in life we had hoped to achieve, even a simple dinner plan with friends can be changed in the blink of an eye. That is just what happened to the Barrick family. One minute they were on their way home from an event at church where they watched their daughter, Jen sing in the church choir and preparing for dinner at their house to celebrate with family and friends. However when a drunk driver slammed into their mini van at 80 mph head on, what they would be left with would be considered a miracle. In the novel, Miracle for Jen by Linda Barrick and John Perry, the reader is taken on a fateful journey that forever changed the lives of not only the Barrick family, but for every single person to be impacted by their story that is captured from start to finish in the beautiful memoir. What would later be a series of miracles that began from before the accident to years later, this book will take you on a walk with angels and with God as He carefully orchestrates a plan to use Jen's life in a very powerful way. This will change your walk with God and also show you just how powerful our prayers can be and they really do communicate with Jesus and His Father. I don't think anyone who reads this book will ever be the same again. I personally have never encounter a teenagers faith as strong as Jen's prior to her accident and even more so afterwards. This has renewed my faith and increased my prayer life. I will never take things for granted again and will be working to make my own personal walk with God more diligent and powerful. I think that is exactly what Jen and God had planned in the most unexpected ways. This is the journey of Jen's spiritual walk even before her accident, how she found God in her recovery efforts when she couldn't remember her mom's name but remember her favorite scriptures and songs of praise and worship. When her efforts at speech seemed futile, her prayers to God in the company of those who heard her, showed that Jen has a unique relationship with God that not only walked through that valley with friends and family but helped her see His purpose in it all. I received Miracle for Jen compliments of Tyndale House Publishers for my honest review and have to say it's a must read for anyone wanting to know what faith looks like. There are many pictures of before and after the accident and for Jen and her family to be alive at all, is a miracle in itself. This one rates a 5 out of 5 stars in my personal opinion and I can't wait for you to read about Jen's story!

This is a faith-inspiring story of living through a tragic accident and how God answered prayer in a most unexpected way. Heart2Heart made a mistake when she wrote "novel," because this is not a novel: it is a true account that has been documented on film, in newspapers, photographs, eye witnesses, etc. The struggle Linda, Jennifer's mother, went through simultaneously with Jen's Holy Spirit-led faith shows a good (realistic) contrast. I think we all can relate to some of her questions, doubts, and fears. I would recommend this to everyone who has ever wondered WHY bad things happen to good people who love God. This was the first book I purchased on my new Nook Glowlight, and it is one I will never forget. A note about the Nook Glowlight: easy to read both in sunlight and at night, and the photographs came through clear as well.

I walked into Barnes and Noble one afternoon because I had several hours inbetween meetings and picked up this book and I couldn't put it down. If you've ever had any doubts about God and His active involvement in the lives of His people, "Miracle For Jen" should put those doubts to rest. If you've ever wondered if God answers prayer, you will undoubtedly find the answers you're looking for in this wonderfully well written book. The Barrack family and their community of family, church, and friends all intertwine with one another in this incrediblely warm and, yes, tear jerking, story of faith, hope, and love. It's a great read simply for story content and will have you turning pages to the very end. You'd better believe I'd recommend this book! It was that good!!

Heartwarming…. Exhilarating…. Inspiring!!! I picked up this book on a whim and was moved beyond words! To see a family stick together and become not only closer to each other, but to God, in the midst of a tragedy is not only awe inspiring but a true miracle. This is a must read for anyone!

This is unbelievable not just because of the horrific accident but because of the faith of this girl. Her relationship with god is beyond anything we can imagine. The entire family is courageous and transparent.

Miracle for Jen is an amazing true story about a family whose lives are changed when they are hit head on by a drunk driver. It is a story about their road to recovery and a deeper faith in God. Especially for 15 year old Jennifer who has a severe brain injury and the family is told she may not live through the night. Her mother wants her daughter to be healed and whole again and begs God to make her normal. But God has another plan, one that involves answering Jen's journal prayers in a way that no one would ever imagine or ask for. When Jen finally wakes she can not remember anything or anyone but knows the words to many worship songs and scriptures. She can hardly form words except when she sings worship songs and prays to God. This story is inspiring. It made me long for a deeper relationship with God. I was jealous for what Jen had even though I would never wish for the way it happened. Jen desired to be a bold witness for God before the accident but she was terribly shy. She often wrote in prayer journals asking God to give her a boldness and the words to say. She asked Him to change her life, to give her a testimony. God answered. Sometimes we may not like the way things happen in life but God's ways are so much higher than ours. We don't see the future and what influence our struggles may have on someone else. We have the choice to gripe and complain or to praise and worship. We go through seemingly impossible and unfair things because He sees the greater purpose for us down the road. He loves the weak because His glory will be all the greater for that weakness. God was able to use Jen to spread the gospel even if by our standards He didn't heal her completely. Jen often said in this story that God heals her everyday. He never stops healing. I want to say so much more about this story but that would give the whole book away. It is a must read. It is a life changer if you allow it to be. I received a complimentary copy through the Tyndale Blog Network in exchange for a review. I was not required to provide a positive review and all opinions are my own.

It was my privilege to read “Miracle for Jen” a true story written by Linda Barrick with John Perry. On Sunday, November 5, 2006, the Barrick family was traveling home having experienced an almost perfect day. Andy and Linda’s son Josh had played in a baseball tournament over the weekend and their daughter Jen was making her musical debut in the church choir that evening. The choir would be performing one of Jen’s favorite songs, “Lord, You Are Holy.” Following the evening service the Barrick’s invited family and friends over to watch a football game. But the Barrick family wouldn’t make it home that night. In fact, it would be over 3 months later before the family would be home together again. Unbeknownst to them, a drunk driver was barreling down road going 80 miles. The Barrick family was gravely injured when a truck ran over the family’s van. Having sustained multiple skull fractures and brain injuries Jen was not expected to survive the night. But God had other plans. “A Miracle for Jen” details the long road of recovery for Jen Barrick and her family. Jen remained comatose for weeks. Family and friends rallied around the Barrick’s and sacrificially loved them and helped meet their needs. Someone remained by Jen’s bedside 24 hours a day, praying, reading the Bible and playing worship and praise music. Having been warned that brain-injured comatose patients are often agitated and confused as they are waking up and may lash out, they weren’t expecting what would happen next. A phone call came in the middle of the night, “Linda, you won’t believe this, but Jen started praying out loud for forty-five minutes and hasn’t stopped since.” This was just the beginning of God doing an amazing work in the life of a young woman who loves the Lord and had fully committed her life to Him. This family would never be the same again. Their journey would not be easy. Each day there would be a choice to trust God and the work He was doing in their lives and depend fully on Him or to give in to pain, bitterness and unforgiveness and doubt God’s love. Linda Barrick shares openly and honestly about the struggles they faced as a family. It was a journey they never wished for, didn’t deserve and didn’t understand. It was their faith in God and His goodness that brought them through. Through reading “A Miracle for Jen”, my faith was encouraged, strengthened and challenged. There were times I both cried and rejoiced. This is a wonderful book and I highly recommend it. This book is a keeper and one I want to read again in my own journey of life. Tyndale House has provided me with a complimentary copy of this book to review. I am under no obligation to give a favorable review.

The Barrick family is coming home one evening when their lives are forever changed. A drunk driver hits them head on and all of them sustain injuries that put them in the hospital. But the daughter, Jen, will never be the same. What begin as prayers for recovery turn into prayers of acceptance and prayers for guidance. It's clear that God has plans for Jen and the family is learning to adapt. This book was very well written. I was able to read it all in one evening. I was riveted from the very beginning. The journey that this family has been on is amazing and miraculous. And the testimony that Jen is now able to give is reaching more people than she ever dreamed possible. This book is a must read. I would especially recommend it for young teens. It is a powerful testimony that I'm thankful to have read. I received this book free of charge from Tyndale in exchange for my honest review.
