Miss Fortune Series Boxset No.1 (Louisiana Longshot\ Lethal Bayou Beauty\ Swamp Sniper) by Jana DeLeon

The first three books in the New York Times bestselling Miss Fortune series. The set includes:

It was a hell of a long shot...

CIA assassin Fortune Redding is about to undertake her most difficult mission ever--in Sinful, Louisiana. With a leak at the CIA and a price placed on her head by one of the world's largest arms dealers, Fortune has to go off-grid, but she never expected to be this far out of her element. Posing as a former beauty queen turned librarian in a small bayou town seems worse than death to Fortune, but she's determined to fly below the radar until her boss finds the leak and puts the arms dealer out of play. Unfortunately, she hasn't even unpacked a suitcase before her newly inherited dog digs up a human bone in her backyard.

No one in Sinful liked Pansy Arceneaux, but who hated her enough to kill her?

When aspiring actress Pansy Arceneaux returns to Sinful, Louisiana to head up the beauty pageant portion of the Summer Festival, CIA assassin Fortune Redding knows she's in for trouble. Her undercover identity as a former beauty queen makes Fortune the perfect choice to chair the event with Pansy, but Pansy's abrasive personality makes it impossible to get through a single rehearsal without a fight.

When Pansy turns up dead, Fortune is the prime suspect.

In the two weeks CIA assassin Fortune Redding has been hiding in Sinful, Louisiana, she's been harassed, poisoned, and shot at...and that was the easy part. But now, she's about to face her biggest challenge since setting foot in the tiny bayou town.

When mayoral candidate Ted Williams is murdered, everyone is surprised. Ted was a blowhole and a Yankee, but those usually weren't good reasons to kill someone. When Fortune's good friend Ida Belle becomes the lead suspect in the crime, Fortune knows she's got to solve a murder and save one of the only friends she's ever had. But as the investigation begins, more and more secrets surface, and Fortune realizes that sometimes nothing is as it seems.

Loved the interaction and the dialogue between the 3 main characters! Had me laughing out loud and cringing when the doorbell rang and the sheriff is waiting to hear another "explanation" of their where they've been in the last 15 minuets. If you love Janet Evonovich stories, you will fall in love with this writer too! Look forward to reading more about what will happen next!

I loved the characters in this book. Gertie and Ida Belle are funny and not afraid of being in the middle of the action and Fortune takes good care of them. Aside from the constant gun action, I really enjoyed the story

I found the first book, "Louisiana Longshot", in this series in the free section. The 1st chapter drew me right into the book. It was short, but it managed to clearly and concisely paint a picture of some of the major characters as well as the main plot point. After the 1st two paragraphs in Chapter 2, I was hooked. Not only were they 2 of the funniest paragraphs I've read, they were, once again, clear and concise. After recovering from the giggles, I ended up staying up too late, because I didn't want to put the book down! The mystery is solid, the characters and settings feel real, and the pacing is perfect. The author uses a deft hand in blending comedy with a serious story. The humor is prevalent. Sometimes it's broad, and sometimes it's more subtle. It is never irrelevant or used to shore up weak writing. Rather, it enhances a strong storyline that also touches on serious topics. The story has a definitive finish. You could read this book as a stand-alone story. The sub-plots give you a satisfying read. However, the major plot point that brings Fortune Redding to Louisiana will obviously continue into later stories. I immediately ordered, and read, the boxed set containing the 1st three books in the series. The next 2 books in the series were as good as the first. I am going to order the rest of the series, too.

After reading some of Ms DeLeon's other works, I was a little disappointed when I realized her wonderful humor wasn't going to be as prevalent in this novel. I really love the other books of hers I have read. But I needed only a few pages of this book to fall in love again! Shaye is a multiple faceted character that I can't wait to read more of. For anyone looking for a good detective yarn without a lot of romance getting in the way...this book is a more than worthwhile end to your search! Enjoy! I know I sure did!!!

I only made it through the first book and the first few pages of the second. This is pretty inane! Hard to accept that the CIA assassin presented as lead character is overwhelmed so many times by relatively simple details.
