About the Author

Marica lives with her husband, John Bickle, their two dogs, two cats, one donkey, and one not especially bright sheep on a farm in Mississippi. Like Missy and her pack--including Tiger the Cat--Marica and John love to learn. Marica's favorite subjects are reading, writing, and arithmetic, biology, meteorology, and statistics, and history, literature, and the classics. (John's are philosophy and neuroscience.) Marica collects old books on all these subjects and more, but she loves old children's books the most. Like Mrs. E.M. Field, author of The Child andHis Book (1891), Marica doesn't believe that "instruction, if admitted into a story-book at all, must be scrupulously veiled and cloaked." Marica thinks story-books are great places to learn!
