A fun witch cozy mystery
Miss Spelled (The Kitchen Witch, Book 1)
Amelia Spelled has had a bad week. Her boyfriend dumps her when she inadvertently gives him food poisoning; her workplace, a telecommunications center, fires all their staff as they are outsourcing offshore, and she is evicted due to smoke damage resulting from her failed attempts at baking. Amelia thinks her luck has changed when she inherits her estranged aunt's store, two mysterious cats, and beautiful Victorian house.
Yet has Amelia jumped out of the frying pan into the fire? To Amelia's dismay, the store is a cake store, and she discovers that her aunt was a witch. To add to the mix, the house has secrets of its own.
When a man is murdered in the cake store, will Amelia be able to cook up a way to solve the crime? Will her spells prove as bad as her baking?

This was a very enjoyable read. It was what I refer to as Light reading believe it or not considering the subject matter. The characters, and the way they handle different situations with such kindness and Care makes this book enjoyable. The plot was pretty interesting as well. There were a few places during conversations they were having... It seemed a bit simple for normal conversation but maybe that's the way they really talk in Australia LOL!

It's a cute, fun easy read.

This was an ok story but the writing seemed a bit scattered to me. I skipped through much of it because it almost seemed the author was just trying to add pages to the book.

The writing is good, the characters fun. Too short to fill in the holes, though.

While this book was very predictable, it was also very short and cute. Characters were pretty well-developed and the plot was interesting to a point. Not a bad read when you want something mindless to wind down from more serious reading. Since this is just the introductory book, I assume the author will get better on this series as she settles in. Plan to read more and find out. Stephanie Clanahan

Amelia loses everything, her boyfriend, her job and her apartment. On the same day she receives a letter letting her know that an aunt she doesn't remember has passed away and left her a house and business. Amelia moves immediately even though she is a little terrified because the business is a bakery and anytime Amelia tries to cook either she starts a fire or gives someone food poisoning. When she meets her aunt's friends, she finds new caring friends for herself. Unfortunately, one of her first customers dies right after taking a bite of one of her cupcakes. Will she ever get customers to come back into her shop again? With her friends by her side, and a magical house as her backup, Amelia vows to figure out what happened! This was a great story! It is not really long (about 150 pages) but it is still not easy to be sure who did it!

I read a lot of supernatural cozy mysteries. This book took too long to let the main character know she was a witch. The supporting characters kept hinting and in the end she still wasn't completely convinced. I was so irritated about the lack of information given to the main character about her heritage I had no interest in who did it or why. Glad the book was free.

It was a fast read. As in it sprinted right past any depth or substance throwing details at you left and right. The idea behind the main character and premise is interesting, I just wish the author had taken more time to tell her story and fleshed out characters. There way she decribes actions and events feels choppy, and makes the characters uncomfortable to read about. I can only imagine the second one will be better since she has already created her characters and world, I just hope that the storyline will improve.

I found this book to be a, delightful read. Baking & potions go hand in hand. The author has an appropriate name. This is one of the BEST witch cozy mysteries I've read.

GJRA. Quick read, about 145 pages. Ended very abruptly, absolutely needed an epilogue to give an ending. Almost gave 1 star because of the ending, but I did enjoy the storyline. Want a house like that. GJRA

The book had a great start but took an unexpected twist of events. Expected there to be more details and this book to be more about her finding out her heritage and use of powers. The author repeated often and I found myself struggling to complete the book. It Was very disappointing as it had a great start.

Cute title. The story was good, unusual circumstances cause her to move to a small town and take over the cake shop her aunt left her. She doesn’t know she’s a witch like her aunt but she’s learning to take strange happenings in stride and roll with it. Her aunt also left her the house without a mortgage, but the house is quite unusual. It changes the rooms and sometimes makes people hallucinate that they are trapped and being crushed to death. An altogether different and interesting story.

This book was actually just what I expected & needed during a snowstorm and subzero temps. A fun, mindless read with one of the most clueless characters I have ever encountered in a book.
