For her twenty-fifth birthday, a family legacy is passed on to small town pastry chef Marissa Maitland as a Kundigerin, which means she has come into secret psychic power. She will know things about people at the brush of a hand, and use this to help them-but she cannot talk about being Kundigerin without suffering pain.
Named executor of his grandmother's estate, Wolf Harper must find something called a "Kundigerin" before he can sell the place. If he could sell his remaining family too, he would. Keeping the family business afloat is his priority, in spite of his uncle's bad management putting them in the red.
Wolf runs into Marissa-literally, at an icy intersection-and is enchanted by her beauty. One bite of her baked goods bewitches him and enflames a passion Marissa shares. But Marissa blurts long-buried details about the car accident that killed his parents, and knows far too much about the problems at Harper Electronics, neither of which she will explain. Should he be afraid of her?

I really enjoyed the twists and turns in Marissa and Wolf's story. The hint of German paranormal, suspense, and hot and sexy attraction was a great mix. I just think that we needed one more chapter at the end. After 626 pages, I feel like I was left hanging a bit. Still, it is a good read.
Once again, Karla Brandenburg gives her readers an intriguing paranormal romance. She presents believable normal to paranormal experiences with informative history to make the reading flow smoothly. The story is not in excess of characters. Each one has a purpose whether active as the heroine, Marissa, and the hero, wolf: or emotional, preternatural as with Great Uncle Balk, the Secret Keeper. Marissa has a good life with a successful bakery and coffee shop. While on her frigid trek to start the breads, donuts and her famous sticky buns, she has a moment, not the first 'quiet moment' as described by her mother and Uncle Balk. As she approaches a stop light, she notices a majestic five point buck standing in a misty meadow and time seems to stand still for a moment. It is just the two of them, eye to eye...special...cosmic. Reality returns as her new car is suddenly rear ended by the handsome Wolf Harper, heir and executor to the Harper Electronics, Inc. and Harper Estate. Today, this her 25th birthday as a gift from her Great Uncle Blat, he passes on the family legacy. She is a Kundigerin, a secret psychic power she possesses which, with but a touch, allows her to know things about the person. But it is a 'by the seat of your pants' situation as her beloved Uncle dies before providing much tutelage. With the realization of her legacy and a budding romance with Wolf, the dangers that accompany her newly realized powers begin. First, with a break in at her apartment followed by attempts on her life. At the same time, Wolf finds the monetary problems of Hangar Inc. are a result of inventory diversion and reabsorbtion. With the aide of Marissa's insight and Wolf's bravery and love, they wage war on the unknown players set out to sabotage the manor and their livelihoods with some surprising assistance.
Enjoyed the love story with a layer of mystery and just the tiniest hint of paranormal.
Wolf has to find a kundigerin, but it might help if he knew what one was. Still, his grandmother seemed pretty sure he’d bump into one when wrote the idea into her will. And he doesn’t plan to let her down. But as one man grieves, one young woman, with a passion for baking, is facing her own grief’s coming. The uncle she loves, whose arrival is always heralded by magic, is suddenly showing his age. He’s also showing some remarkable match-making propensities, and Wolf is his target for Marissa. They meet over a car, fall in love over food, and learn together about knowledge and heritage. Meanwhile they share the love of a cat, and solve the mystery of a failing company. More importantly, they strive to solve the mystery of each other while one can’t talk about what she is, and the other can’t understand. But love gives meaning to it all, releasing the claws of wrong relationships and the silence of secrecy, and binding two people who just might have more in common than they realize—but only time and more novels in the series will tell if breaking these rules is accident or intent. Great dialog, fun characters, romance and a cat... Disclosure: I found a free ecopy and I enjoyed it.
Marissa comes into a family legacy at the age of 25, and even though she's always known she was intuitive, she never realized it would lead to a deeper level of psychic awareness. Wolf lost his parents while he was still in high school, and since that time, has grown into an angry young man. What he finds when he meets Marissa mystifies him, and her knowledge of things no one else knows puts his guard up. Still, he can't seem to shake the attraction he feels for her. Together, they discover a strength that helps them to grow and to heal while they unlock secrets buried for the last eleven years. Enjoyed the German heritage mix in this story, and the chemistry between Wolf and Marissa sizzles. Loved it.
