If you like mysteries, especially the historical ones, you're going to enjoy this book by debut author Holly West. We follow the story of Isabel, Lady Wilde, mistress to King Charles II. She also leads a double life, telling fortunes disguised as Mistress Ruby. So we have insights into the courtly high life of 17th century London, as well as the lows- all the seamy characters who inhabit the shadows. You know, the fun stuff... There is murder, mystery, treason, and a bit of romance, all told with an eye to making the past come alive. You can tell when a book has been thoroughly researched, and this one has a wealth of detail on the period and the people. A strong, solid tale from a new writer to watch.
