Mixed Bag Volume 1: I Guess It Wasn't Love
"I Guess It Wasn't Love" is the first volume of many to come from the "Mixed Bag" series. It is about more than romantic relationships, it's about the relationship I have with myself and how that relationship reverberates outward and effects every single relationship I have had or will ever have with anyone else. It's a memoir of love, lust, pain, angst, and introverted living that is best narrated through poetry and photography. It communicates the human need of being loved and accepted, and that the only way to find true love is to look inward. The hope for this book is to provide cathartic wings to those that need it and encourage the strength to fly. By unburdening the soul, we can finally obtain what we desire. Freedom.

About the Author

Dakari Eli is a writer, poet, journalist, singer/songwriter, artist, and creator of all sorts who was born in San Francisco, California and raised in a city 75 minutes from the metropolitan city of New York. Widely known for her role as Editor-in-Chief of ‘Urban Magazine’ and host/producer of ‘The BIGGER Picture with Dakari’ podcast, Eli has established herself in the industry as a person who values originality in the art world and works hard at maintaining a level of discernment with each journalistic decision. Working in an environment where she is inspired by boundless creativity and having had dreams of one day sharing her poetry, it is no surprise that she would create across several platforms, including writing her own books.
Deeply spiritual, Eli achieved Reiki instruction under Reiki Master Jody Cleveland while also pursuing independent studies in astrology. She also uses her public platforms to champion numerous causes including gender equality, wildlife and environmental conservation, children’s rights, and religious freedom.
In 2019, she released her critically acclaimed single “Why Him?”. Her first solo effort received rave reviews by music executives and fans alike. Eli followed the single with her debut EP, ‘Black Dove Blue Song.’ The singer/songwriter written, arranged, and co-produced every song on the project.
Pulling inspiration from her personal coming of age experiences, falling in love, starting a family, battling mental and physical health issues, losing it all, starting again, and enduring an international pandemic while working in healthcare, she delved deep into the pain and transmuted the energy to fuel her writing. Her love of modeling and photography began as a teen and grew to a passion, and it is within her private moments that she has been able to capture a very intimate, poetic perspective on how emotion is conveyed through use of her own reflections. Hence, the birth of the “Mixed Bag” series.
Eli currently resides in New York’s Hudson Valley, with her daughter, Alana, and her two cats, Cody and Stanley.
