Editorial Reviews

Pat Monaghan
The Aztec civilization fascinates many armchair archaeologists as a great, florid culture right here in North America, one that left splendid, intricate ruins, one whose art can be compared to that of other high civilizations. And then, there are those gruesomely compelling rituals. Carrasco and Matos Moctezuma have created an excellent resource documenting recent finds and theories in the study of the Aztecs. Especially important in this book is the photoreproduction of articles from the Templo Mayor, the urban site where the famous Coyolxauhqui Stone was found in 1978. A must-have for libraries with strong reader interest in Mexican culture, this is a good addition to general collections, too.
