Sequel to Model Citizen
Haven Investigations: Book Two

Things are going well for androgynous model Ollie Petroskovic, ex-Marine Kade Alme, and their business, Haven Investigations, until rock star Jacob Elias shows up in need of their services... and trouble follows.

Jacob is a playboy with a serious penchant for kink, slaves, and sex toys. He's also Ollie's ex--and all that implies. With the media exploiting his personal life, a stalker sending blood-soaked "gifts," a bumbling security team, and a family he can't trust as far as he could throw them, Jacob is in desperate need of a bodyguard for his latest tour, and Kade can't refuse.

While Kade deals with new doubts about his partnership with Ollie and struggles with reminders of his war injuries, Jacob's stalker escalates from blackmail and threats to murder. As Kade and Ollie work to keep Jacob safe and find the culprit behind the attack, a web of family secrets, lies, and abuse slowly emerges, leading up to a final confrontation that they might not walk away from--and that will have lasting repercussions for Kade and his relationship with Ollie.

If you enjoyed the first book in the series, Model Citizen, you will enjoy this one too. It was a 3.5 rounded to 4 star read for me but I was sorely tempted to take away another star because I HATE cliffhangers. I would never have read this one without the rest of the series if I had realized it. I will be very wary of this author's other works now. Other authors have started series that never got finished for whatever reason. Very frustrating! Readers deserve a beginning and an ending to a story within the same book.

Lissa Kasey’s Model Bodyguard is the second book in her Haven Investigations series, and it carries on with the plot-driven story that is full of suspense and mystery. Yes, there is also some romance but it is fitted into the story appropriately. This book is told from Kade’s POV and it is at times a frantic pace as Kade and Ollie take on a client who is Ollie’s former boyfriend, much to Kade’s dislike. Jacob is a rock star who is being stalked by some unsavory person who leaves him with torn and stabbed stuffed animals and other mementoes. The mystery is how the villain is able to get to the places where the relics are left since supposedly no one has access to these places. However, there are dozens of suspects and it isn’t as easy as locking doors to figure out who is the culprit. It could be family, friends, crew, or somebody they haven’t yet identified. Kade and Ollie’s bodyguard/investigation company is hired by Jacob’s sister to guard him and stop the threats. Since Jacob already has a crew of bodyguards and Kade is jealous of Jacob and Ollie’s former relationship, Kade wants to skip this client. When he is convinced to take the job he takes it whole heartedly. Ollie is an androgynous model who Kade has fallen in love with in the first book, and to protect him, Kade has seen to it that Ollie is well trained in martial arts and armed with a Taser. Kade sees every threat against Jacob as also a threat against Ollie. Ms. Kasey is not afraid to put in peril central characters and perhaps even kill one or two, so go into this with your eyes wide open. This is a very exciting book with a violent twist ending. This is the kind of book I love, full of mystery, suspense, twists and turns, and, yes, romance and sex. I’m looking forward eagerly to the next book in the series where we might get some answers to questions that have been dangling unanswered throughout the series, so far. Highly recommended. I suggest you read the series in order, but since this is only the second book that is not a hardship.

It was with bated breath that I jumped at the opportunity to read 'Model Bodyguard', book two in Lissa Kasey's 'Haven Investigations' series. I loved the first book and fell head over heels for both Ollie and Kade. Knowing this novel was going to be from Kade's point of view had me yanking at the bit waiting for it. It didn't hurt that I knew this author was going to bring me mystery, intrigue, action, and adventure, along with a strong cast of main and secondary characters, not to mention tantalizing hints to make me think. So, yes. I couldn't wait to read this book! "Ollie was my Alice, my savior, and co-conspirator. Most days I felt like the Mad Hatter, following him around with an incoherent mash of madness lingering just beyond our existence. But I couldn’t recall ever being so happy." You would think the author would give me a break after the exciting, tumultuous ending of book one, but oh no, she's bound and determined to have Ollie and Kade smack-dab in another mystery with murder, a rock star ex-boyfriend, betrayal, tons of action adventure, and a cat. Yes, you heard me. A cat. Will and Britney got Ollie and Kade a cat, and if I say so myself, Newt shares some interesting habits with a couple of felines I know pretty well. Plus, Ollie is even more freaking adorable since he's never had a pet before. I knew when Kade reluctantly agreed to take Jacob's case that it wasn't going to end well. How could it? Too many secrets and lies within Jacob's family and surrounding him that Ollie and Kade had to struggle to decipher. As much as I disliked Jacob in the beginning, I did feel sorry for him as the story progressed. He's been used by everyone including the family that's supposed to love him. I couldn't forgive him for the stuff he put Ollie through, but I actually had hope there was a human being in there somewhere. It was so incredible to have Kade's point of view in this second installment. I got to know him better, especially how he thought, and I was able to see Ollie through his eyes. It really made this novel even more enjoyable for me and that's saying a lot since I adored every moment spent with Ollie and Kade. If you don't believe the author's words at the beginning of the book then take it from me - there's a cliff-hanger at the end of this book. I do know, however, that the third book is in the works so I'm hoping I don't have to wait too long. I love a good cliff-hanger to keep me on the edge of my seat and believe me, this is a great one! Thank you, Lissa, I loved every word and can't wait for the next book. NOTE: This book was provided by Dreamspinner Press for the purpose of a review on Rainbow Book Reviews
