About the Author
Ruth grew up in Japan and learned basic Sashiko from an elderly neighbor. Ruth made her first quilt in 1990--a queen size hand-Appliqué_d and hand-quilted Hawaiian pineapple quilt, and she has never looked back. In her own unique style, she loves to use new techniques mingled with the old and her work usually shows the influence of her years spent in Japan. Ruth and her husband live in Colorado Springs, CO. There must be a resurgence of hand embroidery work as I have seen several books on this subject lately. This book has all the basic stitches but instead of just showing you the stitches, the author has you create a booklet of them as you work each one. When you are done, you will have a great reference tool to look at when you need to remember how a particular stitch is created. There are tips galore throughout the book. They are set off in a bordered box so you can’t miss them. There are also lots of graphics showing the stitches and using the written instructions, the graphics and the tips, your stitches will come out perfect. If you want to create a quilt block, embellishment on a shirt/dress or create a wall hanging with embroidery, this book will guide you each step of the way.
