About the Author

Harry G. Lang is a professor in the Department of Research and Teacher Education at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) at Rochester Institute of Technology. A prolific author, he has published seven books and numerous articles including the biographies: "Teaching From the Heart and Soul: The Robert F. Panara Story" (2007), "Edmund Booth, Deaf Pioneer" (2004), and "Deaf Persons in the Arts and Sciences: A Biographical Dictionary" (1995), co-authored with his wife, Bonnie Meath-Lang. He also served as the senior advisor on the production team for the 2007 PBS documentary “Through Deaf Eyes.”

Oscar P. Cohen spent over thirty-six years educating deaf children at Lexington School for the Deaf and Lexington Center for the Deaf. While there he served as President of National Conference of Educational Administrators of Schools and Programs for the Deaf (CEASD), and as Chairman of the New York State 4201 Schools Association. In 2002, Dr. Cohen was appointed as the Executive Director of the Ralph Lauren Foundation, a corporate foundation that supports programs for cancer care and prevention, education, and community building.

Joseph E. Fischgrund has worked nearly thirty years in the field of the education of deaf children. His academic background is in theoretical linguistics, specializing in the history of English language and English grammar. He is the Headmaster of the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf in Philadelphia, a position he has held for the past twenty years. Mr. Fischgrund has published widely, concentrating on the subject of deaf students from racial, linguistic, and ethnic minority backgrounds. He is a current editorial board member of The Journal of Deaf Studies and Deaf Education.
