Theirs was a secret they’d kill to protect.
Three cracks of thunder. Three reasons to run and hide.
When the lightning illuminated the night, I saw their bloodied faces. They were no longer the boys from next door. As quick as the storm rolled over the neighborhood, a crime of passion was committed, Lucas and Mason Carter dangerously altering the course of all our lives.
Ten years later, on my twenty-sixth birthday, when detectives come digging for information on a cold case, I find myself once again unwillingly tangled in the spider’s web.
I hold information on a heinous crime. I have become the number one target. More specific, I have become Mason Carter’s obsession.
While one brother seeks to destroy me, I have to believe the love I share for the other could somehow save us all.
When running proves futile, I’m left with a choice. Reveal the deadly truth, or dare to take on the monsters lurking in the dark.

Monsters By: Melissa Jane ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 Review by Kristie K A suspenseful psychological thriller that will leave you begging for more… The boy next door is Gemma’s best friend, and love of her young life…his brother is a completely different beast. Where Lucas is kind, loving, and generous, Mason is cold, calculating, and cruel. One brother will love and protect her till his last breath…while the other wants to watch the fear and uncertainty in her eyes as he torments her mercilessly. When the brothers lose their father to another woman, their lives take a terrifying turn for the worst, their nightmares becoming a reality. Gemma watches as her friend becomes a shell of his former self, withdrawing further and further away until the fateful night when the storm came and their lives changed irrevocably. What did Gemma really see that night, and will Mason keep his promise? I am such a sucker for a good psychological thriller/suspense, especially when there is a touch of romance thrown in for good measure. Monsters was an easy read, well written and offering just enough to keep me turning the pages and wanting more. The plot and storyline were unique, offering something a little different then that which we’ve seen before. So many elements were present, and the book promised to be amazing…and it was…mostly. I missed the dark, twisted, and terrifying moments that were promised. Though there were plenty of disturbing scenes and imagery, the true monstrous nature of the villain could have been so very much more, bringing true nightmares to life and drawing out the suspense that much more. That being said, Mason was a twisted character that you love to hate. Early on you can see that there may have been good in him, some redeeming quality. The lack of true mystery to who the villain was and what he was capable of was something I felt could have been enhanced, bringing additional edge to the story. And finally, I just wanted more…there were so many elements to this story that seemed to play in the background and were left unresolved. There was no conclusion to so many things, and by the end it seemed somewhat rushed to close the story, leaving me somewhat unsatisfied. In saying all this, I do want to clarify that I did truly enjoy this book, and wouldn’t hesitate to read another by this author. It carried so many elements that I loved, and the writing was truly incredible, I would definitely recommend it to others. Kristie K
Monsters by Melissa Jane was AMAZING!! I honestly could not get enough of this one! Monsters follows Gemma Sinclair and her deadly tryst with brothers Mason and Lucas. Gemma has deep secrets that she was only able to share with Mason, and the connection she shares with Lucas makes them equally close. When things turn deadly it will be up to Gemma to track down Lucas, things can turn on a dime leaving Gemma finding it hard to trust anyone. Mason and Lucas were starkly different that I couldn't decide which brother I liked more with their connection to Gemma. The books flashes from past to present, showing the reader glimpses of Gemma and the brothers as children, the stories that have bonded them and what torn them apart; to the present with the fall out between them all. The suspense, twists and turns in this story will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the entire book, unable to turn the pages fast enough. Jane is a new to me author, and I am mad at myself for not knowing her sooner. This book was such an amazing journey and I am so happy that I found this book. The characters and story line pulled me in from the first page and didn't let go until the last word. Anyone looking for a book that will totally consume them than this is one that they need to pick up. I can't wait to see what Jane brings her readers next because I will be first in line to buy it!
Monsters by Melissa Jane is a suspense-mystery-thriller you won't be able to put down until the last page. This is my first book by this author and I fully enjoyed her writing style. I can't wait to see what other books she has that I can dig into. Her writing style is free flowing, easy reading and pulled me in from the first word. Her attention to details are such that you will feel like you are part of the story. Her characters took me on a journey of twists and turns that I didn't see coming. They left me on the edge of my seat most of the book. This book is written in the past and future and I enjoyed how this author was able to take me back and forth with ease and I didn't get lost at all. This story is about secrets and how far you are willing to go to keep that secret. She is a young woman who grew up next door to two boys. She was best friend with Lucas but not so much with his brother Mason. Then one night she looks out her window and what she sees will change her life forever. A crime of passion had been committed and now they are all destined to keep it a secret. Fast forward ten years and this young woman is just turning twenty-six. She thought she put everything in the past when she left. What will happen when two detectives show up digging for information on Mason and Lucas? Now the past is coming to the present added to Mason's obsession with her. Now she is left with one choice, to take on the monsters that are lurking in the dark. I enjoyed this woman's character. She is strong and determined. Two brothers one is bad and the other is good, she loves one of them. I felt compassion for her because she has been keeping this secret but yet has been through a lot because of Mason. I will say she knows what she needs to do and when she figures that out she just goes for it. I really did just enjoyed her character as she just made the story. The secondary characters are supportive but add to the story in a way that it just flows. There is no doubt that they will take you on a journey of emotions and mystery that you won't be able to put down. I highly recommend this book. I know you will want to see what happens when secrets are determined to come out and how lives are effected.
What defines a monster? Is it the pain and fear they feed on? Is it the treatment of others? Is it the treatment they received that created the monster? In this story the monsters are defined by their actions. What he fights is who he becomes. He tries to destroy the beauty he sees and lets his jealousy and ugliness lead him. How do you protect yourself from the monster. I really had no idea what this book would be about I mean the blurb gives you hints but as you read the book and meet the characters it is plain to see this author wants to put you through the emotional winger. The story goes back and forth in time providing you with a story that keeps you off kilter in the best of ways. You can't help but live through each agonizing moment as your heart is ripped out and put back together. It isn't as dark as I thought it would be but it isn't an easy read. This is my first read by this author and it was AWESOME SAUCE. The characters and the emotions and the story. I had to stop and take a breath at times when I realized I was getting dizzy from holding it. The mama bear in me wanted to kick some serious butt in one minute and hold them close in the next protecting them from their darkness. Great story I highly recommend.
Holy S**# was this book a great romantic suspense! All I can say is that I always LOVE Melissa's books and this one was no different!!! Monsters had me trying to guess what was going to happen. I will say that I guessed wrong so many times and am glad I did because each time I had to keep reading to find out what happened. Melissa was able to depict a love story into an amazing suspense that had many twists. The main question is who really is the Monster of this story? Mason and Lucas Carter had a tough life growing up. With each brother being completely different this tough up bringing had their lives turning out the complete opposite of each other. One brother became very successful while the other brother was out for revenge. Gemma Sinclair was the girl next door. She was best friends and in love with one brother and completely afraid of the other. What happens when the one she is afraid gets his hands on her and then threatens her if she ever tells? Gemma had moved on with her life and didn't think about the past until the brother seeking revenge reappears, and now her life has been turned upside down. The only way to out of this miss it to find her best friend and love of her life and put an end to it all before his brother finds out and end both of their lives because of the secrete that she had kept for the last 10 years. So, again who is really the monster and who will survive the revenge being sought? Overall, this book was one of the best I have read so far this year and I can't wait to see what Melissa comes out with next. The writing was Terrific and the plot was spot on. The twists added so much to this plot that kept the story growing with more suspense. **I had the honor of reading an ARC**
