Overview

Annabelle Evans arrives in Bear Grass Springs, Montana Territory, in 1884 hoping to reunite with her long-estranged sister. Expecting to attend her sister's wedding to Cailean MacKinnon, she is shocked at Cailean's pronouncement. With his "I'm not marrying a whore" echoing in the General Store, Annabelle discovers that her hoped-for reconciliation will not be as she had imagined. Not one to retreat from a challenge, Annabelle opens her own business, intent on remaining near her sister to repair their damaged relationship and succeeding without the support of a husband.

Cailean Mackinnon swore off marriage twelve years ago when he fled the Isle of Skye in Scotland. A successful livery owner, he is determined to focus on his work and his siblings, adamant that he has no room in his life for love. However, he cannot suppress his fascination for the resourceful and determined Annabelle who, in turn, cannot avoid a reluctant admiration for the strong, virile, loyal Scot. A fateful kiss witnessed by the gossiping town busybody forces their mutual attraction into the open.

Annabelle's independent spirit precludes a man in her life, and Cailean's closed-off heart refuses to allow any woman in. Yet love can be tenacious and timeless, overcoming fears, if only Annabelle and Cailean both choose to take a risk.

I enjoyed reading the first book in this new series and look forward to the entire series. Can hardly wait for Fedelia's redemption. Enjoy reading books about strong independent women who still need a man in their lives.

A sweet romance of long ago . My only complaint is that it had no ending! After reading alot of repitition I would have liked an ending ! For this reason I take it down a star, sorry.

This was a great book. The characters are great! I also love books that don't need a bunch of sex in it to sell the story, the characters do that for you! I am now moving on to book two. The only thing I hate about books like these is when you finally read the last book you have to say goodbye to characters you've fallen in love with! And I know already even though I've only finished book one , that the same will happen when I will come to the end of these books. It will suck to say goodbye!

Liked the single woman making it on her own and the loyalty of family. Also liked the fact of the romance without a lot of detail. VERY ENJOYABLE READ!

I love to watch movies about the 1800s. And so when I read this book it was like I was watching it unfold in my head with every word. When I started this book it had me captivated. I couldn’t put it down. I loved the mackinnons.

A great read.... loved the strength and importance of family. They love and are honest and show you cannot always change who your family is but you can still love them. Patience, endurance, and understanding are evident in this love story between two people and between family members.

I'm not sure if these books are self-published, but the writing quality seems more like that of a first or second draft. The main character is never NOT blushing or crying, despite being described as a strong woman. The characters were all shallowly written, more like caricatures than real people. Semi spoiler alert here: what the male lead did to his supposed love interest was not worthy of forgiveness. It was, frankly, an appalling thing to have done and said, and then to have these other characters reproach HER for being unreasonable? I would have quit after the first few paragraphs of unnecessary description had I not needed something to occupy me. As it is, I'm glad it was free.
