Overview

Welcome to Montenegro, the small Balkan country with a sparkling coastline and a mountainous green heart. Whether you’re looking for inspiration, or you’ve already planned your trip, this small and perfectly formed travel guide is the friend you’ve been looking for. Resort holiday, city break, backpacker trip? It doesn’t matter what kind of Montenegro holiday you’re going on – trust me, I’ve got your next adventure sorted.

I spent over 30 years as a Rough Guide travel writer, researching dozens of editions of guides to countries right across the world. But times have changed. The days of the one-stop travel guide are over. Those old-school guidebooks are full of places you’re never going to go and stuff you don’t need.

Trust-Me travel guides are new and different. Each chapter starts with a travel feature on a place, a walk, an experience or an adventure. Even if you have no plans to go to Montenegro, I hope these are inspiring and fun to read. It’s the kind of travel writing I like best, something that gets you right into the heart of the destination – from the remarkable city walls of Kotor to the spectacular train ride from Bar to Belgrade. I take you along the coast, out on the lake and up into the mountains, and try to give you a real sense of what it’s like to visit these amazing places.

After that, I tell you the things you need to know if you’d like to have the same experience. How to catch the bus, which way to walk, dealing with local taxi drivers, the best nearby restaurant – just the things a friend would tell you if they were recommending a trip. I tell it like it is and work on the basis that you don’t need lots of choice – just the right choice – so my opinions and reviews are honest and (I hope) helpful.

The Trust-Me travel guide to Montenegro – all the things you need and none of the stuff you don't.

* An ebook guide for your tablet, phone or reader

"Montenegro is an amazing place and Jules has really nailed it with this guide. You’d be mad to leave home without it!" – Martin Dunford, author of the original Rough Guide to Yugoslavia

About the Author

I've been a pro travel writer for over 30 years – born in Africa, raised in the UK and living in places from Sicily and Portugal to Hong Kong and New Zealand. You might even have had one of my guidebooks along for the ride in your travel bag - in which case, happy to have helped!

I took my first solo trip around Europe when I was 17, and have been travelling and writing professionally since I published my first Rough Guide – to Scandinavia – in 1988. Since then I have written guides to Sicily, Hong Kong, Barcelona, Washington DC, Portugal, Spain and England, and contributed to many others. I've also written widely for newspapers, magazines, blogs and websites, and I'm a consultant for the best-of-UK-travel website Cool Places.

My latest books
Takoradi to the Stars (via Huddersfield) – a travel memoir
Not Cool: Europe by Train in a Heatwave – a laugh-out-loud rail journey
Montenegro: A Trust-Me Travel Guide – a new kind of travel guide to one of Europe's most exciting destinations
