Moon Over Maalaea Bay is an exciting story of non-stop action sandwiched between the romance of Lee and Jennifer. Even on their honeymoon, this couple continues the battle against the international trafficking of young women. In this third book of the Pure Genius Series, we have the opportunity to get to know a wonderful secondary character, Granddad, who is Jennifer’s grandfather—a 70-year-old gentleman who holds a sixth-degree black belt. He is quite a man of steel nerves. What I like best about Moonlight Over Maalaea Bay is that whatever the problem, Jennifer and Lee go to the one Problem Solver who has all the answers. Here is a quote: “There was One Who was all-powerful, One full of love, grace, and mercy that knew no limits. Lee closed his eyes and took his concerns to that all-powerful source.” No matter the harrowing circumstance, Lee, Jennifer, and Katie live with the expectation that God will provide for their needs. When He does, they give Him the credit.

It was refreshing to see a male point of view in Christian suspense in a market where so many women are trying their hand.  You know Moon Over Maalaea Bay was male written with words like guts and blasts of breath sprinkled throughout.   Whereas a female author might veer away from it as being too protective, this male author has one of his young heroines gloating that she is being protected by her black-belt great grandfather and other men in her life, while those men beam with pride.  Whereas a female author might praise the handsomeness of the hero, this male author praises his heroine is one of God’s finest creations.   Several times in the book, the reader is led to believe the “case has been solved” when an unexpected new twist in events opens it back up.   God helping the good guys is brought up naturally, and in such a way that an undecided reader might think twice about his/her own faith.   This book was easy to read and ends with hopes that the hero and heroine will be back in another book.

Third in the author’s Pure Genius series, Moon Over Maalaea Bay, starts with the beautiful relationship between newly-weds Lee and Jennifer. Having escaped all the trials of the previous books, they rejoice in their new marriage, and in love for each other and for God. But things soon start going wrong in this heavenly honeymoon, and Lee’s soon struggling to calm his racing thoughts enough to pray. An Amber Alert locks down the island of Maui. Friends race to the rescue, from the FBI and beyond. And the newly-weds, newly separated, look for clues, listen for slipups, lay plans, and pray, while waiting for that moment when violent action might ensue. Author H. L. Wegley creates convincing characters with convincing faith, then matches them up against cops and criminals. Add gorgeous scenery, deadly crime, terrorists and spies, then stir. Faith remains part of the plot, always present but never intrusive. God manufactured coincidences offer a pleasing satisfaction absent from the usual oh-good-we-just-found-out feeling of traditional suspense tales. The danger’s real. The tension’s high. The action’s fast and furious. And the story’s a good, clean, thoroughly enjoyable read. Great drama. Great thrills and suspense. And great faith that prays without condemnation, and heals without fury—it’s a winning combination. And trust is a wonderful message, well-taught in this well-plotted tale. Disclosure: I was given a pre-release version to read and I offer my honest review.

If you enjoy Christian suspense this book is for you. The book grabbed my attention and kept me riveted to it until I was finished with the books. Lee and Jennifers honeymoon is interrupted when she disappears. She is kidnapped by a human traffic group that is seeking revenge against the couple. Their is another group who wants Jennifer to exploit her genius. Lee, adopted stepdaughter and his father in law are involved in the search for Jennifer along with the Maui police and FBI. The book is the third book in the series, but can be read by itself. I had read book 2 On the Pineapple Express which I feel gave me more feel for the characters. I loved both books. I received a copy of this book from the author for my honest opinion. Enjoy.

Editorial Review by Readers’ Favorite Lee Brandt sees his dreams crashing and turning into a nightmare on his wedding night in Maui in Moon over Maalaea Bay by H.L. Wegley. Jennifer Akihara is kidnapped on her wedding night in Maui by an international trafficking group and they have plans to take revenge on her by selling her into slavery. Jennifer had earlier stopped their trafficking plans which makes them want to ruin her by using her for other purposes. Lee, along with his foster daughter Katie and Jennifer's father, begins the search for Jennifer with the help of the Maui police and the federal government. The twist happens when Katie is also taken by the traffickers. Will Lee succeed in saving both Jennifer and Katie? Will Jennifer be able to survive if she is sold? This is a compelling story of mystery and suspense and relationships that will keep readers riveted. Shifting the focus from the sweet romance of Lee and Jennifer and then switching over to the nightmare of Jennifer being kidnapped has been done effortlessly by the author without it sounding forced. The action and drama in the theme with its innumerable twists and turns help in keeping up the pace of the story. All the characters are well defined and Maui as the backdrop of the story gives it an exotic vibe. The interrogation scenes in the story add the much needed punch to the plot and the romance and suspense make it a bittersweet read. I found the story compelling. There are a lot of things happening simultaneously which the author has woven together well.
