Jack tugged at his cut-off Levi's, obviously reaching their most uncomfortable point. "I've got to get out of these clothes. I can't stand this sand anymore." He stepped next to the door and locked it again.
"Then go ahead and shower, since you brought extra clothes," Penny replied.
Jack entered the bathroom and returned with a clean shirt for Penelope. "Here. You can at least get out of that sandy bathing suit while I shower. It has to be driving you crazy. I won't be long."
"Thanks, Jack." Penny smiled. This man was sweet indeed.
In half a second the sound of running water echoed through the room, and Penelope began to undress. She shook out her bikini and draped it across the bed railing. She slid her petite frame into Jack's oversized shirt then lay across the unmade bed. She gathered the shirt in her hands and pulled it to her nose. The shirt smelled like Jack--wild and untamed. She liked the way his body smelled. It wasn't cologne; it was just him, raw and alive.
She'd always liked his smell, even when he'd dated her best friend, Emily. But now, she was in the room with Jack. The thought made her stomach tighten. She wasn't sure if it was from nerves or desire, but her belly heated when she pictured him. Jack Kirkpatrick. The thoughts lulled her into a pleasant sleep on the comfortable bed. It felt heavenly compared to last night's accommodations.
I can't believe it she thought as she drifted off.
