Imagine your first Christmas with your new husband and adorable not-quite-5-year-old stepson. You'd be pretty excited right? You'd plan everything so you and your new family would have fun and it would be the best Christmas ever, right? You planned it around your dad's Christmas Eve wedding at an awesome resort. But there's a few things you didn't plan on: 1) your dad's wedding being run by his fiancée's overbearing and demanding mother; 2) your mother-in-law suddenly invites herself to your father's wedding and stays in your hotel suite; 3) your mother (your dad's ex-wife) also invites herself to said wedding and the hotel is booked. Three guesses where she ends up staying; 4) your husband's ex-wife (who's supposed to be out of the country) also makes an unexpected appearance in the middle of the night. Did I mention there's no room at the inn? I guess I'll never be able to complain about things not going how I want after reading this story. This is Charlee Jensen-Carter's first Christmas with her hunky hubby, Ryan and adorable stepson, Josh, who just started calling her "mom". To say things aren't going as she expected could be the understatement of the year. Exes are coming out of the woodwork, and at the worst possible time (like there's ever a good time). There's nothing like a wedding or a holiday to bring out the worst in people so you can imagine what happens when those two events take place simultaneously. I loved how Charlee took control towards the end--she had, had all she could stand and she wasn't going to take anymore. "Everyone in my life was going to be deliriously happy, whether they wanted to be or not." I've felt this way many times--if I have to make you happy so be it. lol. I imagined that scene in my head would love to see it in a movie--it was one of my favorite parts. Along with "Felix Naughty Dog". I'll never be able to listen to José Feliciano again without thinking of those words. Lol As usual in Jennifer Peel books, there's a lot of humor thrown in amongst the madness in this novella. Poor Charlee just wants to have a wonderful Christmas with her new husband and give him the best Christmas present ever. There are some laugh out loud lines and lots of swoony moments too. If you're looking for something to read to relieve the holiday stress we all feel, this is it. You don't have to read Trouble in Loveland to understand what's going on in this novella.
More Trouble in Loveland by Jennifer Peel (5 stars) A highly amusing situational romance. It is written in first person, but it needs to be in order to really get into the head of our heroine. And let me just say that her head is a fun place to be! She is a newlywed and we are allowed, through a series of flashbacks, to experience her courtship to a certain extent. I didn't know when I read it, that it is a short sequel to a previously written book called, 'Trouble in Loveland'. This can stand alone, but all the references to the past had me wondering if it was a sequel. Either way, READ IT! It's too fun to miss. I love finding new authors, especially ones who can write humorously; such a rare talent. I'll definitely look for more by Jennifer Peel beginning with Trouble in Loveland! I received this as an ARC and always do my best to give an honest review.
What a crazy Christmas season!! What Ryan and Charlee hoped would be an enjoyable first Christmas together ended up being a circus with them right in the middle. I had to laugh as all the exes kept showing up. And that wasn’t the only trouble. I enjoyed the humor and loved the tender moments, and was grateful that my family drama is nowhere close to theirs. :) It was great to be in Loveland again. I loved finding out how things were going for Ryan, Charlee and Josh. (Josh continues to be one of the cutest boys ever!) You can read this as a stand alone, but you will enjoy it so much more if you’ve read Trouble in Loveland first and know the characters. I received a complimentary copy of the book, which I voluntarily reviewed. I have given my honest opinion.
Charlee Jensen-Carter is looking forward to Christmas--she'll be spending it at an amazing resort with her sexy husband Ryan, her adorable stepson Josh, and her dad and his fiancee as they tie the knot. And when she finds out she's pregnant, Charlee realizes she has the best Christmas present ever for Ryan. However, their awesome getaway turns out to be an absolute madhouse as unexpected arrivals complicate everyone's plans. Soon, Charlee and Ryan need a vacation from their vacation--but Charlee's determined to make things better. This was a fun Christmas read. Although this novella is a follow-up to Trouble in Loveland, you don't have to read that to have this make sense and be a fun story (I haven't read Trouble in Loveland--yet). There are funny moments and cringe-worthy moments--there were seriously times when it was painful to read this story because I could feel Charlee's pain! Great choice for a quick, clean holiday read. I received a complimentary copy of the book. All opinions are my own.
