I find this very insulting, as I am a Mormon. For those of you who say no educated person would join, WRONG!! We have books of scripture that have the WHOLE truth! I doubt the author of this has really studied and immersed himself in our gospel. This is wrong and insulting, and any truly educated person would know that. I wish that I could give this book zero stars, but then I couldn't tell him how insulting this is. Does anyone agree with me?

If you truly wish to know for your self if the LDS (Mormon) church is a cult or not, I would whole heartedly recommend going to a Mormon church and sitting through the meeting. Talk to the people. Read the Book of Mormon. Talk with the Mormon missionaries. And pray. And see what your heart tells you. Do your research. Read books by authors who have researched what they are talking about. But I will say, please dont rely to heavily on this book. I only read a sample due to the reviews and will not be wasting my money on the book. Its poorly written and it seems as if the author could not get his thoughts together properly nor afford an editor. Poorly written with typos and spelling errors in the first 14 pages turned me off, and im sure if I had purchased the book I would find more fodder against it. And that is all before coming at this as a Mormon who was not raised in the church and went from being very anti-Mormon to convert at age 22. I hope if you read my review it will help you to take this work with a grain of salt. Question what he says as much, if not more so, than you do the religion, whether it be a "con or cult" or not. Good luck and God Bless.

He's negatively biased right in the title. Not reliable. Plus most of the assertions he makes are personal speculation. He doesn't use sound reasoning, nor historical context, he ignores the actual doctrine of the LDS church in favor of presenting his own views on what the church teaches (in contradiction to that which they present as solid belief) and he, again, presents the only possible outcome as being negative toward the Mormons. He sets out to answer whether the church is a cult or a con (and says himself that it is, in his eyes, both) but only manages to answer the question "how should we not do unbiased research?"

This book is ridiculous he obvoiusly on the front page made a mistake the way he wrote the book suckshe has no actual proof they say well the methodists do that as well he doesnt even want to mention the quroum of the twelve apostles. IN MY OWN OPIOION IF HE WANTS TO BASH THE MORMON CHURCH HE SHOULD AT LEAST DO HIS RESEARCH!!!!

The truth of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints: The Religion is based on Teachings of the Book of Mormon and revelation believed to have come from God. Not one person will make a Mormon be driven from their religion. Note: We Mormons have accepted that not all will come to the religion. But our goal is: Invite Others to Come unto Christ, and we will invite all who will accept us. Hope this what is needed

I totally get it. When I was 11 I got in that situation. He asked me to the sock-hop, and I said yes. Which was a huge mistake. It made me feel bad, and guilty even though I ended up missing the sockhop... If you just cant say no... tell your dad about it. He will totally make it so you can't go. And then you can just tell the boy that your dad said no. About the cussing friend, I am not sure because one of my friends cusses and I still have not had the courage to tell her to stop :(. And as for the physical hurting friends... Talk to them and ask them what happened. If they just shrug you off or are just like, "I dont know." Then they are obviously not your friend. But if they tell you that they were just being stupid or was having a bad day and includes an apology (hopefully) they may have just made a mistake. If you have an older sister talk to her. If you don't, try and talk to a Yw. Or an activityday leader, but I'm not sure how that would work... Good luck! (My name is not Autum, but it's for safety purposes, I AM 12)

This man is pretty dumb but he is also wrong because it clearly states in the Book of Mormon that we should TRY to be perfect. No wonder why he is an inactive member!
Anonymous More than 1 year ago
Look im a mormon too and u should try to be perfect. What ur saying is basically to give up and accept our imperfections. Some have not followed by this and have reached perfection. They werent sinless like jesus though.
Anonymous More than 1 year ago
No one can be perfect. We should accept our imperfections and not try or want to be something we're not. Thats why satan got kicked out of heaven. He wanted to be God. So if we want to be God we will be kicked out of the book of life and heaven.

I hate to say it, but thats the worst thing you can do. Now. I have a few things to say, one, a quote from my branch president. Women cant have the preisthood because they got us kicked out of eden and because they are not like god, for he is a man" a bit sexist huh? Now. Also. Wheels, horses, elephants, and weapons were not in america during the time of joseph smith. All his stories are lies. And i cant beleive i, the kid who ADORES history and archaeology, didnt see it before. And the more i keep going to the mormon church, the more sexist and cultist they seem. I was a beleiving member for 12 years. Then during my studies the peices were put together. Mormonism is cultism. They believe that unless you are a mormon, you go to he<_>ll. But didnt jesus say everybody is going to heaven? How does that fit? It doesnt. Nothing in that church does. And then my mother tried to get me to believe in the church again, and ended up leaving it. All the decisions are made by men. Thomas S. Monson said "a woman who wishes for the preisthood and wants her questions answered should take those questions to a court of MEN and ask them." Im a boy, but i still absolutely HATE that. Everybody should be your friend. Bad or not. Everybody deserves love. Not filthy lies. A dance or sockhop is fine! FINE! YOU ARENT FUC<_>KING EACHOTHER ARE YOU!? No youre not. Youre having fun. Why do they want boys and girls to be so seperate?! God created us equal, we should be treated equal! The mormon church doesnt beleive that. And in my arguements with them, they always said the same thing. "The prophet cannot and will not lie. What he says is truth" chew on that before you go judging people for their behavior. one of my best friends is a 20 year old ghetto raised man. And im 14. Hes probably the most trustworthy and kind guy ever, even though he cusses regularly. He doesnt go to church, but he knows god. He believes all people that are not wicked go to heaven. A good and true belief. Dont you agree? Just think aboit this. Please. I dont want you falling into the trap me, my siblings and my mother barely escaped. My father is lost to them. My sister he wants to grow to be a maid. And all my female cousins. And he believes everything bad the church say about women. Also. Alchohol. The ONLY thing jesus drank. Coffee. NATURAL! GOD MADE IT FOR US! Tea. THE SAME AS COFFEE! Please think on this.

This works based religion is very much so a false religion. The only thing Christian about it is the terminology stolen from Biblical / historical Christianity. The definitions they use are light years away from what a Biblical Christian use based on the Old and New Testaments. You don't need to swallow rat poison to know its bad for you any more than you need to become emeshed in their religion to know it is beyond spiritualy dysfunctional. On common sense alone the faith does not make sense. Beyond all that it is simply untrue and based on lies. This book exposes this, as do many others and many LDS do not want to take an honest look at the facts. When presented with facts they default to feelings and the heart. However the Bible they claim to know says that the heart is " decietfuly wicked". Some cannot be confused with the facts.

It seems that people have to butt into everyones religious beliefs. Its humerous that someone has to always condemn others. Dont read for it just breeds ignorance....

We believe a lot of the things that "regular christians" do but some still consider us non christian d a cult....this is not true......and.....think about it christianity was condidered somewhat a cult when jesus was on the earth to the other religions yet now it is the basis of our beliefs

This was a very interesting book and discussed serious issues concerning discrepencies in the Mormon religion. I have always felt that the story of Joseph Smith was interesting but made up to make him money as he was a con man with his money seeker scam he was running prior to his "vision". The bottom line to me is that we continue to find archealogical evidence of the bible but nothing has been found for the mormon bible...how strange.

The author has it right. He takes apart the religion bit by bit, to show the hows and whys of this cult.

I cannot believe any educated individual would ever get sucked into this ridiculous religion. It is quite laughable.
