Here is an example of a great thriller set right in my own back yard! Most of the typical thrillers are the same garbage set in the far away land of New York or California. Maybe small town Maryland if I want to see how northern white trash lives. But I am from the south. I am a Southerner by birth, Texan by the grace of GOD! And this Texas setting is quite the superb change of pace from the cookie-cutter New York tales. Imagine September 11th taking place in small-town America! If you can do that, you'll pretty much have Mourning Reign. But the book is deeper than that. It challenges the reader to REALLY consider what he/she thinks about everything from Government to Religion and beyond. Too, this book depicts Alex Mendez's personal life in ways that aren't often done in fiction. Personal and Professional lives really bang heads in this non-stop thriller from a a real up-and-comer.

Mourning Reign was definitely a thrill ride of a book from the opening scene to the last chapter. It's action packed and the author barely gives you a chance to catch your breath. Alex Mendez is a complicated character that you're rooting for from the beginning of the book. The stakes are really high with family and county on the line. He is a great match for the terrorists and a man you care about, who loves his family. I would recommend this book to readers that love a well-written, clean thriller. It's tightly plotted and it was a pleasure to read this novel.

Mourning Reign was such a great book. I often look for Christian thrillers and books based on Christian values. This book captivated my interest as the main character was full of energy, loyalty and would do anything for his wife. Alex Mendez comes out of retirement after his wife is kidnaped by a terrorist group. The terrorist group has been attacking small towns around the country and Alex feels as though he can not just sit by to let everything be destroyed. Alex is a bold and strong character. He's a protector and would be willing to do anything to save lives, along with his wife. The passion that he had for her was truly remarkable and one of the reasons why I kept reading the book. The writing style is very adventurous and keeps you on the edge of your seat. This is a great book that I would recommend to anyone, especially if you like thrillers!

Sensational! Wow!.........this sensational book is whipping up a storm in my mind. The plot is well inscribed to thrill readers with terrorist attacks that disarm the police department and destroy many towns. Crafted with shocking and alarming events this story sails rapidly with distress and interesting senses. I am impress with the use of the figurative words, they skillfully embodied the story and amplified the lead character Alex. I enjoyed it!

as a former police officer, turned insurance agent, let me tell you that this book is technically-sound. Sure, there may be some procedural errors or whatever, but suspension of disbelief is easy with this tale. It's not about the "facts" or "details". It's about the STORY and the characters with this guy. And he tells a good story with characters you really KNOW.... I can't speak for others, but I like this dude. Can't wait to meet Alex Mendez again on the pages of the next Hancock novel.

Finally! A detective story that is NOT set in New York or California! Hancock has DONE it! He's captured the East Texas spirit PERFECTLY! If you are a fan of the detective novel, the pure THRILLER or any genre such as suspense, this story will enthrall you! I hope to read more from this guy. Alex Mendez and family are a truly great American Tale!

I've read both of Hancock's books in this series. While I ENJOYED "In The Breath of God", this story was much richer. I can see serious growth in Hancock as a storyteller and the depth of the characters is just amazing. In the end, when Lisa is in peril, I really FEEL her pain. I FEEL Alex's fear. I FEEL the urgency growing, seemingly with every breath he takes. I can't wait to see where this series goes next.... VERY excited!
