About the Author

Lee Austin was raised in the small town of Arcadia, Florida. His mother, the Superintendent of DeSoto County School Lunchrooms, had been educated in the arts at Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts, and the Boston Conservatory of Music. She had also been an actress in local theater in Jacksonville, Florida. She instilled in Lee a love of poetry, particularly the verse of the great poets of the late 19th and early 20th centuries who told stories in meter and rhyme. His older brother, Mark, earned a degree in Journalism at Florida State University and possessed a powerful vocabulary. He encouraged Lee to strive to increase his word power.

A Marine, master parachutist, and retired Army Colonel, Lee Austin enlisted in the Florida National Guard at age 16 and, after graduation from high school, served as an enlisted Marine for a short time before being commissioned a 2 LT in the U.S. Army upon graduation from Florida State University. He graduated with a degree in Geology and earned a masters' degree in Political Science from the University of Texas, El Paso. He served 28 years active military, mostly in the Army, and seven years in the National Guard, and Army and Marine Corps Reserves.

Colonel Austin has been married to the former Sue Williams of Tallahassee, Florida for over 56 years at the time of this publication. He and his wife now live in Arlington, Virginia.

Other books by Lee Austin are 10 Patriotic Poems, Poetry That Rhymes, Patriotic Poems, and Humorous Poems.
