The thoroughly revised and updated Second Edition of this text is part of the popular Lippincott Williams & Wilkins MRI Teaching File Series. The book presents 100 actual case studies that cover a wide range of head and neck disorders and demonstrate the use of current MRI techniques and contrast enhancement agents to aid in diagnosis. Each case study is illustrated with high-resolution MR images and presented in an easy-to-follow format on a two-page spread. On the left-hand page are the images and the clinical history. On the right-hand page are concise descriptions of the radiographic findings, the diagnosis, and the pathology. This format is ideal for teaching readers how to interpret MR images or for everyday reference at the view box.Praise for the previous edition:"The book is packed with pearls....It should be useful to residents and generalists in radiology and to those in other disciplines in which MR imaging is used....This book is well worth the investment."—American Journal of Roentgenology

In order to help readers become more knowledgeable about the head and neck and about magnetic resonance imaging, 100 case studies are laid out, each on its own two-page spread. The first page is visual, and readers are urged to try to identify the pathology from the images and brief symptoms before reading the explanatory text on the facing page that discusses both the findings of the imaging and the clinical problem it indicates. Suggested readings are also provided. No date is noted for the first edition. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)

Description: As part of the MRI Teaching File Series, this book covers the major problems encountered in the MR examination of the head and neck.
Purpose: The 100 cases are presented in a format that allows readers to develop observation and interpretation skills, so they can enhance their MR interpretive skills in the process of gaining clinical knowledge of head and neck pathology.
Audience: The cases are presented at an appropriate level for a practicing radiologist, resident, or clinician interested in reviewing head and neck cases. The editors are university-based radiologists specializing in head and neck radiology.
Features: Each case is presented with images on the left hand page, followed by a brief description of the clinical history and MRI findings. The diagnosis and discussion of the pathology and possible therapies are presented on the right hand page. A short bibliography of suggested readings is also provided. In a little over 230 pages, 100 cases are presented in a concise fashion allowing for quick review of an extensive amount of material covering most diagnostic dilemmas in head and neck MRI. Although the subject index is thorough, a table of contents organizing the material into broad differential categories would have been helpful. The photographic quality is good, but the pictures themselves are small in order to fit each case on two pages. It is also confusing when two different patients are presented in the same set of images prior to the description of findings.
Assessment: This is a worthwhile text for a quick reference or review of head and neck imaging. The format is effective for time management because it allows coverage of an extensive amount of material in a rapid fashion. Presentation of 390 new images is justification for this updated edition, since MR imaging itself is evolving so quickly.
