Overview

Mrs. Darcy and the Blue-Eyed Stranger by Lee Smith

Lee Smith is a "teller of tales for tale tellers to admire and envy . . . [and] a reader’s dream" (Houston Chronicle). A celebrated and bestselling writer with a dozen novels under her name, including Fair and Tender Ladies, Oral History, and The Last Girls, she is just as widely recognized for her exceptional short stories. Here, in Mrs. Darcy and the Blue-Eyed Stranger, Smith collects seven brand-new stories along with seven of her favorites from three earlier collections. The result? A book of dazzling richness. As the New York Times Book Review put it, "In al- most every one of [her stories] there is a moment of vision, or love, or unclothed wonder that transforms something plain into something transcendent."

Ms Smith's new collection of short stories is a collection of well developed characters that you will long remember after finishing the book. It is a quick read and even though the stories do not have reoccurring characters, the themes are cohesive. As an author, she is really in touch with human nature and all of it's quirks.

Mrs. Darcy and the Blue-Eyed Stranger First I hope that soemone from Barnes and Noble is monitoring these posts, because the picture they have for Lee Smith is WRONG. The Lee SMith who wrote this book is a female and looks nothing like the man picture here. That may be a picture of "a" Lee Smith; but it is not the prolific one who wrote this book. : )  I have never yet read a Lee Smith book or story that was disappointing, and this was no exception. As per her usual, Lee draws characters that cause you to think, "I know him/her!" This story collection, which I finished in a couple days,  left me thirsting for more! I can't wait for her next work! But be forewarned; she will spoil you for most other writers!
