Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Number nine in the "Bob the Builder" series, Muck's Muddy Day, uses claymation stills from the popular television series of the same name to tell an entertaining story about helping a friend and having fun in the process. It is a rainy day. Bob the Builder has finished a construction job with Scoop and Muck, two of his machines. Bob has just started cleaning up the muddy machines when Farmer Pickles called. Travis is stuck in the mud. Can Bob help? Yes he can! With Dizzy along for moral support, Muck uses all his strength to free Travis from the muddy field. On the way back to Farmer Pickles' farmhouse, a mud fight ensues among Dizzy, Muck and Spud. After Bob finds the wayward machines, they return to the yard for a soapy surprise and some good clean fun. Young children who love machines and mud will be delighted by this new adventure in the popular series. Adults will appreciate the can-do spirit and helping-others-is-fun message conveyed by the story. One word of caution, however: those not familiar with the series' characters will find it takes several pages to figure out which machine pictured is Muck, Scoop or Dizzy. 2003, Simon Spotlight, Ages 2 to 6.
