I could not put this book down. Being a native Memphian and history buff I found her historical places and events very accurate. I was especially impressed with the balance of intrigue, romance and other aspects of the character's lives. The book kept me so interested in the characters that I didn't want it to end. A great read. I look forward to reading "From Whence He Came and Other Short Stories" also by Marion Bollick Perutelli.

If you've ever lived in Memphis, live in Memphis or want to learn some Memphis history during the Ciivil War, this is the book for you. I learned of places and customs I did not know. How one misused power when a mother is forced to give up her child is chilling. It is all very exciting and the end is quite surprising
