Overview

Multi-media charts the development of multi-media video, installation and performance in a unique dialogue between theoretical analysis and specially commissioned documentations by some of the world’s foremost artists. Nick Kaye explores the interdisciplinary history and character of experimental practices shaped in exchanges between music, installation, theatre, performance art, conceptual art, sculpture and video.

The book sets out key themes and concerns in multi-media practice, addressing time, space, the resurgence of ephemerality, liveness and ‘aura’. These chapters are interspersed with documentary artwork and essays by artists whose work continues to shape the field, including new articles from:

  • Vito Acconci
  • The Builders Association
  • John Jesurun
  • Pipilotti Rist
  • Fiona Templeton.

Multi-media also reintroduces a major documentary essay by Paolo Rosa of Studio Azzurro in a new, fully illustrated form. This book combines sophisticated scholarly analysis and fascinating original work to present a refreshing and creative investigation of current multi-media arts practice.

(Hey guys this chapter is about standing up for yourself.) Silver Candy and Blazinwork were trotting down the road together. Just then they ran into this blue and neon green pony ran into them."What's your name?",Blazinwork asked the pony. "My name is Book Worm.",Book Worm said."Hey do you have any friends,Book Worm.",Blazinwork asked."No.",Book Worm said."How about you hang out with us.",Blazinwork said."Ok.",Book Worm said. Just as they were walking this yellow and gray pony bumped into them."Hey watch it Blank Flanks.",The pony said."Who is this pony?",Blazinwork asked. "That's Bone Crusher.",Silver Candy said."Hey Bone Crusher watch this.",Blazinwork said. Chaos Emaralds circled around Blazinwork. Blazinwork turned into Hyper Blazinwork. "Blank Flanks!",Bone Crusher said repeatedly."Why don't you call yourself that because you have no cutiemark either.",Hyper Blazinwork said mad. Bone Crusher started to jump at Hyper Blazinwork, but he teleported."Nice try.",Hyper Blazinwork said. Blazinwork defeated Bone Crusher."My hero.",Silver Candy said while kissing Blazinwork. "So does that mean were going out?",Blazinwork asked."Yes.",Silver Candy said. Just then Blazinwork got his Cutie Mark. It was a cape tied to a pony."Cool.",Blazinwork said. (Isn't that sweet folks. Tell me what you think.)
