Nicholas Hazel is an accomplished and intelligent professional who now shares his wit, charm and vast knowledge of both geography and the history surrounding the area in this thriller of a murder mystery set in Tuscon. Set up against the majestic Santa Catalina Mountains the reader can vividly see the beauty of the area as well as an understanding for the complexities of the many characters. His style of writing is both captivating and educational. As the story unfolds you find yourself not wanting to put the book down as you can see the tangled web that has been woven. More importantly you will change your mind many times as to who actually committed the murder(s) until it is revealed. A MUST read. I can not wait until Mr. Hazel blesses us with another thrilling tale.

I finished Murder in Mountain Lion Canyon with just the sort of reaction you want at the end of a mystery novel. I was surprised by the solution to the mystery, and then immediately thought of multiple clues that I remembered but had neglected to consider in trying to figure out the murderer! If only I had thought of... In addition to a very satisfying and logically consistent mystery, the book also has thrilling moments of suspense that are somewhat unconventional for being closer to daily experience. The novel evokes the lifestyle of the intelligentsia in Tucson, and includes a colorful gallery of southwestern characters.

For anyone who has visited the Southwest and Tucson in particular, Murder in Mountain Lion Canyon feels like a return visit. The obvious familiarity of the author to the look and feel of the region is well presented in this enticing Agatha Christie like murder mystery. The story includes a wealth of potential suspects, who keep moving up and down your list of murderers, as you try to determine who is doing the dirty deeds in this thriller. You will become engrossed in both the character development and the evaluation of all of the potential and real motives that come into play in this complex story. Enjoy!
