What a great, fun story! The town on Wagtail, Virginia gets together to host a murder mystery. Many of the participants are staying at the Sugar Maple Inn. It turns out some of those attending the weekend have a lot of past issues with a local who ends up dead, which is not part of the plan for the murder mystery. There is also someone going around planting fake clues focusing on local gossip for participants to find. All of this happens while Holly's grandmother is on a cruise with her best friend, Rose. Holly and Trixie have no choice but to get involved.

Things are hopping in Wagtail as the town prepares for their first mystery event where they hide clues in all the shops and in the parks to help participants solve a murder mystery that has been fashioned after the board game Clue. Unfortunately, someone has taken the opportunity to kill off a rather nasty resident and stage them in the middle of the game throwing everyone for a loop and having Holly & pals scrambling to solve that mystery before the killer slips away with all the tourists. If you love a good cozy mystery, then you definitely need to be reading this series. I'm so glad I found it! Fantastic character and setting development along with great plotting to keep you guessing as you try to solve the mystery along with the gang!

Holly Miller runs the Sugar Maple Inn with her grandmother in Wagtail, Virginia. People and their pets are welcome to stay at the Inn, and all the shops in town are pet friendly. While her grandmother is on a much needed vacation, Holly is thrilled to be in charge. The Inn is holding a Murder Mystery Weekend. When Holly finds a dead body, at first she thinks it's part of the game, but soon realizes it's not. Holly now has to keep the Inn running smoothly, while trying to help solve a murder. This book had a ton of twists and turns, and kept me on the edge of my seat! I didn't want this book to end. I wished there was a place like Wagtail in real life, because I would move there in a heartbeat. Krista Davis is a master at her craft. I highly recommend this book!

I love this series. I wish I could find an inn like this. Of course, I'm sure my little chihuahuas wouldn't be nearly as well behaved as the dogs in this book. I can't wait for the next book in this series to come out.

This is a great series. If Wagtail, Virginia actually existed, I'd love to visit. The town is totally animal friendly with restaurants encouraging pets with special menus and the Inn having one dog wing and another cat wing. I love the fact that they offer the loan of a gps for visiting animals in case they get lost while there. We have a version of the classic manor house murder mystery with everyone snowed in. A significant number of people are in town for a murder mystery weekend, but an actual dead body shows up. The search for who, what, when, and why is quite entertaining. And, just for good measure, there are people and animal recipes.

Great series! This book has two mysteries in one to add to the fun. I like how the series continues to grow and the characters are great fun.

The stage is set for a murder mystery weekend at the pet friendly Sugar Maple Inn. The game has just begun when Holly Miller, who has been left in charge of the inn, finds a real frozen body outside on a bench. Things continue to go bad for Holly when she discovers she has hired a convicted murderer and things are disappearing from guest rooms. As Holly and her sidekicks, Trixie the dog and Twinkletoes the kitten, become more involved the suspect list becomes longer and longer. This is a great mystery that will keep you guessing until the end. A must read for cozy mystery readers and animal lovers.

It was another fun visit to Wagtail. Wouldn't it be great if there really was a place like Wagtail? I really had no clue who did it until the very end. The characters were very interesting and the animals were very friendly. I loved all the snow! I miss being able to spend a lot of time in the snow. Ah, my wonderful visit has come to an end for now. I will be back soon!

Murder Most Howl is the third book in the A Paws And Claws Mystery series. Another exciting story for this pet lovers series. Holly Miller is happy that her grandmother is off on a well deserved vacation on a cruise, but at the same time nervous that she won't have any problems managing the inn on her own. The inn is quickly filling up with guests who have come for the inn's first mystery game. The object of the game is to gather clues and prop murder weapons, so that one can ask other guests and shop owners question to be able to answer who the murderer is and what weapon was used. But soon, malicious clues start showing up that become apparent to be directed at a resident of Wagtail. Just as the contest is getting underway a blizzard hit Wagtail, virtually cutting them off and leaving everyone stranded at the inn. Then Holly is out walking her dogs and Trixie, her Jack Russell takes off running and barking and she soon catches up and finds a dead body sitting on the bench with one of the prop murder weapons in his hand. Some of the guests want to leave but can't because of the weather, while others are to intent in outdoing the contestants to give much thought to a real murder. Holly is hoping that Dave Quinlan will be able, with her help, to find the murderer before her grandmother returns. But, probably, most of all the murderer isn't Shadow Hobbs. She'd hate to explain to her grandmother how she could have hired a murderer. Most all of the enjoyable and believable characters are back to take care of the inn and the whims of its guests. And course the pets of the guests and Holly's play a prominent part of the story. What a delightful place this would be to stay where the pets are treated as equals to their humans. Will be looking forward to the next book in this enjoyable series.

Dollycas’s Thoughts If Wagtail Mountain was a real place I would bundle up in my warm winter clothes and head there today! I would check right in at the Sugar Maple Inn with my dogs Oreo and NeraBelle and let the fun begin. Krista Davis has created an ideal place for pet lovers. A town the welcomes their dogs and cats and caters to them. The restaurants have both pet and people selections on their menus. Stores offer items for animals and the people that love them. Hotels and places like the Sugar Maple Inn have cat and dog wings and allow the 4 legged family members roam and make themselves right at home. In this 3rd installment the town is hosting the Murder Most Howl Mystery Game where guests try to solve the mystery, like a huge game of Clue. There is a blizzard headed toward Wagtail that could put a little damper on the festivities. Of course, a body found outside the Inn could be a huge game changer too. Holly and her friends know the event is important for the town so they do all the can to keep things running smoothly while they try to solve the real murder mystery too. The regular characters are joined by some very interesting characters in town for the weekend, including The Thursday Night Cloak and Dagger Book Club and couple wanting to adopt a dog. The Sugar Maple Inn has a program called If The Dog Fits where guests can get to know dogs from the humane society. All the characters, human, canine, and feline, all come to life and leap from the pages. I really enjoyed this story. The mysteries, real and in the game, were very well thought out and plotted. Both had their share of red herrings, the game more than originally planned. :) I ended up reading the book all in one sitting and was sorry my virtual visit to Wagtail ended so soon. I look forward to returning there soon.

If you love cozy mysteries, animals, and some romance thrown in, then this is a must read. Welcome to Wagtail, a place where pets and their owners are welcome to wander around town and in establishments. The town is putting on a murder mystery weekend and Holly, the owner of Sugar Maple Inn, is the host. You will find yourself immersed in this fun suspenseful read as you explore with the contestants and try to solve the pretend murder mystery when, bam, not only are you in the midst of a pretend murder mystery which has developed mysterious complications but a real murder takes place too. The author has a gift for weaving a story that will keep you guessing and will make you not want to put the book down till the end. I highly recommend Krista Davis books -- she is an awesome writer.

I enjoyed this book very much. Holly is in charge while her grandma is away, and she has her hands full. There is a murder mystery weekend going on and guests are arriving for the fun. She ends up with a murder mystery within a murder mystery when a dead body is found. On top of that she has to deal with loss of electricity, a pet adoption, Aunt Birdie, a blizzard and more. The only thing that bothered me was that as much as I love animals, I really didn't want to read about what every meal they ate and what they were wearing, but that is just me, I know most people love that. The mystery was excellent and kept me guessing, I had an idea but just couldn't quite piece it together. I loved the whole murder mystery weekend idea, and I love the characters. If you're an animal lover this is definitely the series for you, a very fun read and I will continue on with this series. I received this book from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review, and this is my honest opinion.

This is a fun series for me to read and I am glad I got the chance to read the newest one before it comes out. Wagtail is such a cozy place for people and their pets to live and visit. I can only imagine taking my own furbabies there. Holly's grandma is such a go getter but I was glad to see her take her vacation that she deserved. But while grandma is away Holly still seems to get herself into some trouble when Trixie finds a body. The author will take you on a fun ride while you follow Holly, Trixie and Twinkletoes around trying to solve this new murder. I always enjoy Krista's writing style and how she keeps me guessing until the end of the book. This is one of my go to series now and I hope it continues on for awhile. If you love your furbabies and love some mystery I suggest this book for you.

Wouldn't it be grand if a place existed in North America where people with their pets could live without leash laws or off limit areas for their animal companions? Well, welcome to Wagtail - where pets are allowed in stores & restaurants and where a walk with your owner is a joy of exploration & exercise without the constraint of a leash. One of the businesses in town is the Sugar Maple Inn where Holly Miller & her grandmother welcome people & their pets. In this book, the third in the Paws and Claws series, Holly, minus her travelling grandmother, is hosting a murder mystery weekend. When a real body is found in addition to the pretend corpse, everyone appears to pitch in, even the murder mystery participants. Can they solve both the pretend & real mystery before someone else dies? What could be better - pets & a murder mystery? This book is great combination of two of my favourite things. When you add a hint of romance, wonderful recipes for both people & dogs, a great setting & the wonderful premise of a murder mystery weekend you have a very enjoyable and entertaining book that was hard to put down! I am looking forward to going back and reading the first 2 books in the series. I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Holly Miller has been left in charge of the Sugar Maple Inn and there is a snow storm coming at the same time as the community is offering a murder mystery game. Except that there was only supposed to be one body and one set of clues! Now an extra body turns up, and this one is really dead. Extra clues are turning up that upset members of the community, and Holly and her friends have to move quickly to save the game and try to find out who committed murder. Adding to the well-drawn characters are the cats and dogs of the town of Wagtail, and the dogs who are part of a try-out program. One couple in town for the mystery weekend and the "If the Dog Fits" program disagrees over which of the available canines will be right for them, revealing possible cracks in the marriage. A book club has come to participate as well, with one overly competitive member. This mystery flows smoothly, and in a number of directions as Holly tries to sift through fact and fiction. This is a likable town with a lot of nice (and a few not-so-nice) people. Krista Davis has written characters and situations that leave you rooting for the good guys and wondering right along with Holly how to put the puzzle together. This is the third book in the Wagtail series. They certainly can be read out of order, but I would recommend reading the whole series! I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
