Murder on Moonshine Hill (A Jenna Scali Mystery, #2)

The first page draws you in- you just have to keep turning to see what happens next. Jenna's life is getting back to "normal" when she is invited to her estranged best friend's wedding. Although she is reeling from the emotional toll of a friendship lost, she is quickly reeled into family drama and murder. Jenna Scali just can't help herself- she is both curious and stubborn. She vacillates from wanting to help her friend to wanting to flee the entire situation- luckily the former keeps us in suspense as the mystery unfolds. Although I just finished the second Jenna Scali mystery, I am hopeful for the next edition.

Jenna receives an invitation to a wedding … the bride, Marcy, used to be her best friend, but that was 10 years ago. There has been no other contact. Dragging her friend, Quentin, she bites the bullet and goes. She’s still smarting from the way Marcy treated her and she thinks she will use this opportunity to find out why her friend turned against her. Arriving at their destination, Marcy sees a lot of people from her past which stirs up a lot of memories both good and bad. She did not expect to find a dead body. The wedding is cancelled when the police arrest Marcy. Jenna does what Jenna does best … sticks her nose where it doesn’t belong, putting her life in danger. Not overly suspenseful, but a really good mystery, it’s a fast easy read. I read it in 2 sittings. I love all the characters. I have never seen so many dysfunctional people all in one place at one time. There is Marcy who breaks down and tells Jenna how abusive her intended is, Tom. There is Tom’s mother, who doesn’t seem to like Tom. There is cousin Clayton, who doesn’t seem to like Tom. The ex-boyfriend makes an appearance and he doesn’t like Tom, either. There is Jenna’s mother and aunt … both a little on the ditzy side. Marcy’s mother and her husband and her father and his trophy wife add to the long list of suspects, especially as the trophy wife and intended groom were having an affair. It’s a book also filled with humor … which appears sporadically throughout. I found myself chuckling out loud. This one just hit all the right buttons for me. I do recommend that e-Murderer be read first. There are several references to the events of the first book. I’m keeping fingers crossed that there will be further adventures for Jenna and her friends. She’s an intriguing character. If you think you can read a few quick pages before getting back to what you were doing, think again! Once you pick it up, you will not want to put the book down until you have finished the very last sentence! I have enjoyed all of the books by Curtis but this is my favorite. I loved it!! It would make a great movie or tv series! The imagery that the author conjures up in your mind, let's you be right now there in the story. You can picture each character and their surroundings. Great twists! Funny! Very entertaining. You will not figure it out until you read it for yourself! I hated it when I finished the book. I wanted to read more about what Jenna was up to next.

What a treat it was to follow lead character Jenna Scali as the graduate student once again encounters mystery and murder in unlikely places. The second of award-winning author Joan Curtis' series features a University of Georgia graduate student who has a diverse and creative cohort of friends and workers. Jenna finds herself drawn into solving mysteries which have a very personal nature and this book is as engaging as the first of the series, The E-Murderer. Based in the North Carolina mountains during the wedding of an estranged former best friend, Moonshine Hill introduces Jenna's family and pre-Athens life helping to develop her character. The book is great summer light reading--a perfect beach book—engaging, a quick read and a good cross between light romance and murder mystery. I was provided a copy of this book by the author to provide an unbiased review.

Jenna lost contact with her BFF for years, when she gets an invite for her friends wedding, she is confused they didn't see each other for so long, she ends up going anyway after finding a note. Her friend is acting weird and her fiancee is not really a nice person. Then...... there is a murder, who done it and why? Jenna wouldn't be Jenna if she didn't do a own investigation... the outcome wasn't what I expected. Good developed characters, good story and plot. I live in the area it was written it was fun to read about it knowing where it is and weird in a way too. I enjoyed the book a lot and can't wait to read more!
