This was the first Summit Murder Mystery that I have read and it was wonderful. After just ending one climb Scott must go on another to recover two golden idols before they fall into the wrong hands. This climb on Vinson Massif has never been made in the winter and could prove treacherous. On this climb we have Scott,Esmerelda, her brother Ignacio,a millionaire Robert Ainsworth,Carlos, Quentin Stern, his ex wife Kira and some military as they are also testing equipment for the army such as outdoor suits, buildings and vehicles. The character descriptions and the description of the snow equipment being used is extremely well written, along with the historical facts of the other mountains. I can't wait to read the other books.

I’ve never climbed a mountain, nor do I intend to. I’m in awe of the people who seek this type of thrill at altitudes of 13,000 feet or higher above sea level. To reach the top of a summit and live to tell about it must be the ultimate high for these climbers. However, there are climbers who have perished before reaching their goal. This is a very dangerous sport. Weather conditions, altitude sickness and dehydration are nemeses to even the most experienced mountaineers. Plus the temperatures on some of these summits can hit 50-below-zero or lower. In Murder On Vinson Massif, not only do the climbers have to worry about these issues, they have to watch their back because someone among the group is a murderer. No one can be trusted. Vinson Massif is the highest mountain in Antarctica. You’ll learn about new high tech equipment the government wants tested on this climb. I found this fascinating because the authors described the scenes so vividly I could actually image the base camps and the ETVs (Extreme Temperature Vehicles) idling in the extremely cold weather. Murder On Vinson Massif is truly suspenseful. Charles Irion and Ron Watkins keep you guessing who the culprit is until the end. Just when you think you know who is doing the killing, nope, they are murdered. There is drama and all the characters have flaws, secrets and a reason to kill. A real page turner. I kept this book by my bed side and read each night before going to sleep. I had to make myself stop reading; it’s that good. I’ve started reading Murder on Everest; in chapter seven already. I look forward to reading all the Summit Murder Mystery series.

Having failed to acquire the legendary golden Inca idols on Aconcagua in South America, Scott Devlon is hot on their trail. Kira Stern, former wife of Quentin, has murdered to steal them and is now headed to Punta Arenas, Chile where she hopes to sell them to Robert Ainsworth, a crazed international arms dealer. Joined by Quentin, Scott soon finds himself in Antarctica, compelled to join the expedition about to attempt an unprecedented winter climb of Vinson Massif, the highest mountain on the world's most inhospitable continent. Murder and treachery once again abound as the high tech expedition braves the Antarctic night with temperatures falling below minus 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Old friends and fresh enemies die as Scott seeks the lost idols and in the end all perish save two. Join Scott Devlon in Murder on Vinson Massif, the most thrilling, and fascinating, Summit Murder Mystery yet. The Summit Murder Mystery Series explores murders set on each of the Seven Summits, the highest and deadliest mountains on the world's seven continents. Join authors Charles G. Irion and Ronald J. Watkins for this extraordinary journey of daring exploits and murder.
