Overview

Murm'rings of the Heart: A Collection of Poetry and Song Written to Inspire by Olivia Villa-Real

In this fast-paced world of science and technology, we have set ourselves to a never-ending race with time. We've lost our capacity to enjoy the simple pleasures in life. We have dulled our senses from appreciating the wild flowers along our way that flaunt their beauty and waft their fragrance on the breeze. We cast our vision hurriedly past the inviting pathways into the deep woods that eagerly entice us to take a moment's rest. Lest we become robots devoid of feeling, machineries unable to experience bliss, we must elevate ourselves from the mundane to such loftiness of spirit as will enable us to experience and enjoy the true essence of life. This book offers us a sanctuary to rest our weary body and spirit, and its poetry allows us to feel the realities within ourselves-too often missed, yet are far richer than the physical realities around us that are too commonplace and barren to appreciate. The poems tug at the root of our being, awakening the treasures lurking within us-little gems too inspiring to miss and too beautiful to forget.
This book is a window into my soul-the anima within me that gives me life. It is the true reality of my existence-more than the reality of my physical being. It is beyond what my intellect can reach and what my emotions can inspire. My poetry, which includes my songs, is the fresh breath of my soul; it is the raw expression of what is at my core, borne in the spur of the moment and perfected by inspiration. It is, therefore, in a spirit of love and absolute trust that I welcome you into this sanctuary of my soul since I render myself bare, naked, and vulnerable as I put you in touch with my true reality, which is devoid of fear, pretenses, inhibitions, as well as self-serving needs or purpose.

CHAPTER 1

    A Candle Glows

In the deep, deep night, in my deepest anguish,
In one lonely corner of the room,
    My weary soul is knelt in prayer;
And through my tears I see
The sweet, sweet face of Jesus,
    The bleeding heart of Jesus
    As a candle glows.

A candle glows for you my love,
To light your path in the darkest night,
In this stormy night, my love.
Like the fire of love in the Sacred Heart
Of Jesus, to Jesus I leave you my love.
Close your eyes, sleep in peace
As in my heart, I shall kiss you good night
And my fingers stroke your hair,
As I gently lay your head on the pillow
And in my soul I shall keep all the love
    That shall burn evermore
    As a candle glows.

A candle glows deep in my heart.
For in this heart is the truest love
    That only God can see.
Oh fire of love, burn in my heart!
    Keep burning, just burning
    To warm my sweet love!

    In this cold winter night,
Keep him warm, safe from harm,
Bless his dreams, watch he doesn't wake
    To see the storm outside
    In this lonely night;
The raging wind that tries to blow
    The candle's glow.

My soul shall stay up in the night
    To watch my love,
    As a candle glows!
    As a candle glows!

    I Shouldn't Enter Your World

Don't open the door! Don't open
the door! Don't open the door!
Ah, push me away! Please push me
away, and turn your back —
    Don't open the door!

    I shouldn't enter your world!
    I shouldn't enter your world —
    That's what they say.
Though you love me so much,
    I shouldn't enter your world,
    But run away.
I love you too much, I could cry.
I see my world crashing in pain.
And, yet, I beg you not to cry
As you watch me walk away.

    I shouldn't enter your world.
    Such a forbidden world!
    What a curse to love
    Someone you just can't have!

You said with sadness we should
    part,
    Soft-spoken words that were just
    tearing you apart!
But your eyes could not conceal

    The hidden passions that your
    heart yearns to reveal
And right or wrong, our love is
    true.
My dearest moments are with you.
It breaks my heart to have to say
    "I shouldn't enter your world!"

    I shouldn't enter your world.
    Such a forbidden world!
    What a curse to love
    Someone you just can't have!

    I shouldn't enter your world,
But, for tonight come softly, love,
    Lay by my side.
Take my warm breath in a kiss
And make me deaf to the world
    And all its pride.

I only know I love you so.
Let's share our love sweeter than
    wine.
And, as I turn to go, I'll die.
    I shouldn't enter your world!

You told me you're not free
And that I should stay away.
    But in your eyes
I see the world of love
    Which, with all yearning,
You want to take me to.

    My heart feels nothing
But the love and the joy
    We can share together.
    And, right or wrong
    With deepest love,
I wish to be with you.

But it breaks this heart that
    loves you
    As in my mind,
    I hear the words
    "I shouldn't enter your world!"

    I shouldn't enter your world.
But though the sun turns cold,
    True love that blossomed
In a forbidden world will linger on!

I can't stay in your forbidden
    world!
    Forbidden! Forbidden!
    I must walk away.
    Good-bye, love!

At one moment in my life

At one moment in my life,
I sat so sadly by a stream.
At one moment in my life,
My soul was shackled to a dream!

Then my love you came to me
And gently dried my tears that I may see
The beauty of a faithful love in your arms
At one sweet moment in my life!

My love, please hold me tight.
Just hold me close against your heart
And with love's breath make me forget
The darkest and loneliest night.

Your eyes gaze at my eyes,
Touching my soul, warming my heart,
Promising love
That would last now and forevermore.

Sweet breath, breath that consumes me,
Breathing life into my soul,
Bidding it to live again!
Into your arms I'd fl y,
Leaving sad memories
At one moment in my life.

If This Isn't Caring

My pride won't allow me to show my love.
It breaks my heart to hear you say I'm numb.
I'm cold, cold as a rock, with a heart of stone!
Yet tears roll down my cheeks for you alone.

If this isn't caring, then I don't know how else to tell you.
If this isn't caring, then I don't know how else to tell you!

You say that I won't care if you should go.
I'm crushed, crushed from within, you'll never know.
Now tears well from my eyes, I can't say "good bye!"
They're tears, sweet tears of love, I can't deny!

If this isn't caring, then I don't know how else to tell you.
If this isn't caring, then I don't know how else to tell you!

Ah, why must you go?
Why do you have to go?
You gotta let me, you gotta let me know.
You just don't know, you just don't know
How I love you so!

If this isn't caring, then I don't know how else to tell you.
If this isn't caring, then I don't know how else to tell you!

    Mama

Mama, thank you for loving me so much, and for all that you've done for me!

    Mama, I love you,
Last night I dreamt I was with you.
I saw your face, with so much love,
    What a blessing from above!
The mem'ries of your warm embrace,
    Oh, time can't just erase!

    Mama, I miss you,
On stormy nights, you saw me through.
Your patient love, none can replace.
You bore your pains without a trace.
    Dearest Mama, kindly gaze,
I yearn to see your face!

    Mama, I love you,
    I'll always honor you.
For all my glory, you paid the price.
    Mama, I thank you
    For all your loving sacrifice.
It's you not I, who deserve all the prize!

    Did you ever fall asleep
When I was young and feeling sick?
Did you ever count those tears
You shed for me through all the years?
My every hurt you took as yours —
You saved me from it all!

    Mama, now you're gone,
Forgive all wrong, I may have done.
The love you've shown, so pure and kind,
Will stay forever in my mind.
The tears I shed I cannot hide
    Without you by my side!

    Refrain (Italian):
    Ti voglio bene, Mamma!
    Ti ho sempre venerata.
Per la mia gloria, hai pagato il prezzo.
    Mamma, ti ringrazio
    Per tutti i tuoi sacrifici
Solo tu, non io, l'onore meriti - Mamma!

    Narration (Italian):
    Mamma, ti sei mai addormentata
    Quand'ero giovane e malata
    Hai mai contato quelle lacrime
Che hai pianto per me negli anni?
Il mio dolore l'hai preso come tuo
    Mi hai salvata da tutto.

    Refrain(English):
    Mama, I thank you
    For all your loving sacrifice.
It's you, not I, who deserve all the prize.
    Mama! Mama!

Somewhere

Somewhere, sweet-scented meadows
Covered with blossoms fair,
Flowers, kissed by the dewdrops
Waited for one to care!

Somewhere, bluebirds were singing
Greeting the newborn day,
Someone stepped down a rainbow
Setting my heart a-glow!

Down the green valley, I flew waltzing
Smiling at the sun!
My heart kept throbbing, leaping, dancing for one man!

Dance! My heart is happy, happ'ly dancing for one man.
Listen, listen — lab-dab-dab -dab!
Singing sweet songs with every throb.
Do you hear my heart?
Don't you feel this love?

Darling, darling, I love you so,
Lover, more than you'll ever know.
Kiss me, love me, make me your own,
Say you're mine, ever mine, mine alone!

Love Calls in the Moonlight

(Al chiaro di luna, l'amore ci chiama)

I hear your voice in the midst of the night,
Coming softly through whisp'ring trees,
Giving joy to my heart!

I feel your touch in your accents so sweet,
Thrilling me to the root of my soul
With ev'ry word you speak!

Love calls in the moonlight,
How it enchants and makes us
dream of sweet romance!
Let the night, warm and tender, keep us happy forever,
Hear our hearts gently whisper sweetest vows
As love calls in the moonlight.

When twilight falls, lonely thoughts come to me,
But I find that the evening breeze
carries you back to me,
To dry my tears when I'm down on my knees,
Softest prayers you whisper to me
Drowning away my fears.

(Refrain – Italian):

Ci chiama l'amore immortale
Incanta i nostri cuori e li invita a sognare.

Al chiaro di luna
L'amore ci chiama
A fiorir nella notte.

Al chiaro di luna
Ci chiama.

Love calls in the moonlight,
How it enchants and makes us
dream of sweet romance!
Let the night, warm and tender, keep us happy forever,
Hear our hearts gently whisper sweetest vows
As love calls in the moonlight!

Once upon a Time, Once upon a Dream

Once upon a time, there was a song with perfect rhyme.
Once upon a dream, deep in my heart, there was a gleam.
But when the autumn leaves, auburn and gold, fell to the ground,
That once upon a time, once upon a dream was gone!

Once upon a time, we watched the stars up in the sky.
All night we spent in dreams we hoped and prayed would never die.
But when the winter came, another heart shared in your dream;
That once upon a time, once upon a dream was done!

Follow the rainbow, fill your eyes with wonder,
Catch all the falling stars that your hands can gather.
Cherish all your mem'ries that once upon a time,
You planted in your heart
Once upon a dream!

Interlude (Italian):
Ma quando un altro cuore
Accende la tua anima,
Tutta la gioia con te
E i bei sogni di te
Sono persi!

(Refrain):
Follow the rainbow, fill your eyes with wonder,
Catch all the falling stars that your hands can gather.
Cherish all your mem'ries that once upon a time,
You planted in your heart
Once upon a time,
Once upon a dream!

Just a Smile from a Distance

Just a brief conversation,
A simple "hello,"
A smile from a distance
And a glance that keeps coming my way.

Then, suddenly, I heard
My heart beating, calling your name.
Just a smile from a distance
Turned my whole life around.

You came to me, heart in hand,
Carried me when my hopes were down.
How could you give yourself with so much love,
Turn every tear to a smile?

Lift me up, let me face the world,
Build new dreams once again.
Just a smile from a distance
Taught my heart to believe in the power of love.

Just a smile from a distance
Dried every tear, and sent the rain away!

Twilight Prayer

The sun bids 'goodbye' to a perfect day
And cradles behind the hills.
I drink up the splendor of each ray,
Tears of joy, my eyes it fills!

As in silence I stare,
My heart whispers a pray'r —
Hold this beauty for just one moment longer.
Let it ride on the evening breeze
For us to share,
And seal it in a kiss.
Let this magical paradise
Shine in your eyes.
O hear my twilight pray'r!

These Are the Hands

You took my hand, my love, and the world stood still.
I couldn't look at you, afraid I'd show the love I feel.
But you pressed my hand and held it warm and tenderly
'Till I felt a secret love within, from your hand to my hand.

So help me God as I off er these hands —
This pair of hands, these little hands of mine.
These are the hands, to help you build your plans,
You can reach out anytime, untiringly patient and kind.

And when you come home at the end of the day,
These loving hands will greet you to fade all your hardships away.
And, Honey, when you're feeling low, please don't go, just stay,
For, in my arms, you'd watch the setting of the day!

These are the hands, my love, clasped in silent pray'r —
The very hands of love to heal your wounds of deep despair.
And, Honey, now that we're young, it may sound funny,
But when we're old and gray, I'd ask you
To come and rest on these wrinkled hands,
For these are your hands.

Come, sweet head, rest on these wrinkled hands,
For these are your hands!
These are the hands!

    Soul Mates in Love

Here we are face to face,
Two hearts beating as one —
One breath, one dream, one love forever!

Do you ever wonder how lovers find eternal love,
Perfect for each other, bound together?
In this world of many faces, one heart beats just for me.
And here, we're standing face to face!
Is it real? Can it be? You and me?

My heart cries out loud "Soul mates in love!"
Just one breath, one dream, one love forevermore.
Here and now 'til the end, soul mates in love.
I'll see the sun caress your face each summer day,
    Soul mates in love forevermore!

You hold me close, so close I feel your beating heart,
Things just feel so right from the start.
As I look into your eyes, I see love deep inside,
My heart leaps to the sky and I can fl y,
    I can fl y!

My heart cries out loud, "Soul mates in love!"
Just one breath, one dream, one love forevermore.
Here and now 'til the end, soul mates in love.
Your loving arms keep me warm through winter nights,
    Soul mates in love forevermore.

    (Interlude):
I see you through a new pair of eyes!
I feel you in the warmth of sunrise!

    (Refrain):
My heart cries out loud "Soul mates in love!"
Just one breath, one dream, one love forevermore.
Here and now 'til the end,
    Soul mates in love.
    Soul mates in love, forevermore!

    Thank You for This Feeling

You touched me, you touched me,
You touched my heart with your tender love!

We lay down on the sand
And then, I felt your warm caress,
    You took my hand.
I trembled at the moment and closed my eyes.
I hesitated then, afraid to even try,
But you understood that I'm helplessly shy.

    You drew closer to me,
All I can see are eyes that love me tenderly.
    There's this certain feeling
    Only your touch can bring.
Girl I was but a woman from today,
In your arms, just let me stay.

Feel the magic of this moment,
    Thank you for this feeling.
Thank you, I'm so in love with you.
Thanks to you, thanks for loving me this way,
Words lost in a sigh! Thank you for this feeling!

You think of all that's best for me,
The things you do reveal a heart that loves me so.
    My dearest, sweetest moments
Are those I spend with you.
Love can take every color, every day,
Heart in hand, I'm here to stay,

Feel the magic of this moment!
    Thank you for this feeling,
Thank you, I'm so in love with you.
Thanks to you, thanks for loving me this way.
Words lost in a sigh! Thank you for this feeling!

    Gift of Love

Alone I can't heal all the hurt of the world.
Alone I can't feed every hungry child.
But with your gift, your gift of love,
We'll make a diff erent world!

    Look and see the man
    Roaming down the street,
Robbed of even the simplest things
    Everyone enjoys.

    I peered into his eyes
And there lay a wounded heart,
    Longing for a gentle touch
That would bring him back to life.

    The night's cold and cruel
    For many a hungry child,
    Trembling in my arms
    Waiting for your love.

I hold them close to me,
    Cuddle them tenderly.
    Come, feel their beating hearts
Crying out for you and me!

    (Narrated Stanza):
The world can be a happier place for everyone.
Yes, let's all make it happen – you and I,
'Cuz our heart is a big and mighty place,
    Where everyone can live
And find all the love they need!

Alone I can't heal all the hurt of the world.
Alone I can't feed every hungry child.
But with your gift, your gift of love,
    We'll make a different world!
Yes, we'll make a different world!
