What a pleasant surprise to hear a "classical" approach to an album for yoga. "Holy Fire" (from the album FIRE by Hans Visser) is crisp yet deeply moving -- a simple keyboard melody is answered by a rhythmic pulse on the violin. Soon a woman's beautiful vocalise joins the melody, then a cello, and finally a church organ, creating a stunning theme-and-variations. Next, flutist Christa Michell offers a radiant rendition of Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata," backed by keyboards and the soothing sounds of ocean waves. Erik Satie's dreamy 'Trois Gymnopedies" is played by violinist Daniel Kobialka, while Pachelbel's popular Canon in D is presented with a background of cleansing ocean waves. A few tracks offer original music with a celestial, new age slant based on the rhythm of breathing. This album was compiled from other Oreade releases to create a beautiful program of timeless music.
