Music from a Painted Caveby Rare Tribal Mob
Some of the best Native American offerings combine atmospheres, musical ambience, and vocals, mostly in the original tongue or as chants. Some of the atmospheres use modern instruments and synthesizers to augment them. Music From a Painted Cave has some of those qualities, and the selections that stick to that tried and true pattern are outstanding, while on other selections Robert Mirabal has gone beyond that and has composed original lyrics in English. He has a good voice and sings with an affectation.

when I first heard this music I was entranced by the way Robert Mirabal has brought traditional Native themes into the 21st century weaving a trapestry of traditonal flute, viola, guitar and drums together that is both traditional and contemporary. In ''The Dance'', while it starts out similar to what you might expect at a Pow-Wow,it soon turns into a raucous Rock explosion of drums and guitar that will bring you to your feet. ''Medicine Man'' is another favorite with wonderful melody and lyrics that I think would play on the radio alongside Elton John, Billy Joel, and the like. While the themes and lyrics portray the concerns of Native Peoples, this album helps to dispel any stereotypes and preconceived ideas about Native American music. It's not all chant, folks! Try it, you'll like it.
I listen to this music the other night on New Jersey PBS station. The night was a evening for donations for the Network. When they started playing this music from Robert Mirabal, I was completely taken. The musice was very good, I really enjoyed it.
I saw Robert Mirabal perform on Austin City Limits and fell in love with his music. All of his musicians are so talented and the instruments they use to bring a beautiful sound to the traditional Native American sound is excellent.
I saw Robert's performance of this title and the man swept me away! I love to listen to this title because it keeps the live performance alive in my memory. What a wonderful talent we have in Robert Mirabal. No one who buys this title will be disappointed.
