Whether from a concert stage or in front of a classroom, Roger Kamien knows how to connect with an audience. It is his unique combination of a performer's musical sensibility and a teacher's understanding of what works with students that has made that has made the Brief Edition of Music: An Appreciation the most widely-used text of its kind. The book's impeccable scholarship, clear presentation of musical elements and history, carefully chosen repertoire of musical selections, and insightful listening guides have been its hallmarks from the first edition.

Most Helpful Customer Reviews
This book is great for the class, very informative. The customer service I received was not. I rented this for a class that started on 10/11. I received the book on 10/15 and when I tried to listen to the CDs for the assignments, only the third one worked. I tried all of the disc players I have, even the one in my car. I called customer service and was told my only option was to send back the book and CDs, order another one and once they received the defective product, they would ship out the new one. Did someone not understand that I have a class to do homework for and can't go without my textbook AND the discs? They refused to send me replacements discs and also refused to refund my order for a DEFECTIVE product they rented to me. I am a HUGE consumer of Barnes and Noble and a even worked for them for 3 years, but, hey, after this, my Nook may be replaced with a Kindle. VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!
Waited and waited for this book that should have been delivered before my classes started only to find out that my order had been canceled and I didn't do it. I wasn't even notified by email that my order had been canceled.
I ordered this as a rental. Five days later, I received an e-mail stating that my order had been cancelled. No reason was given. My class started last Friday. Too late to rent elsewhere. I'll just have to purchase the book, which I could have done last week, when I went to my college bookstore.
Tried to rent this book only to find out a couple days later that the order was canceled for no particular reason.
Inaccurate listing by the website. The book is not in stock, had to call customer service to find out because the email message that I received did not include a reason why the book was cancelled.
Ordered this a a rental for the semester. I was notified 5 days later that the order was canceled, NO REASON GIVEN. Buyer beware.
