As an adoptive mom, I've read just about everything on the subject of adoption in the last 10 years. This is the first book I found myself smiling and nodding through (and yes, even getting choked up emotionally) because it truly hits at the heart of adoption for adoptive children, prospective parents who are dreaming of holding a child in their arms, and those of us who are already 'in the trenches' of parenthood. It's also the first book on adoption that I haven't found myself ripping pages out of before I showed it to my daughter. So many adoption books refer to or imply that adoptive children are 'lesser than' children you birth with your own body, as a 'second/last chance' for those who can't have 'their own,' or mention the fact that they 'aren't wanted' by their birth families. Dr. Leman's book, My Adopted Child, portrays the very wonderful perspective that adoptive children are specially chosen and that they grow in your heart. How true this is for our family and myriad adoptive parents we know across the nation. I'm grateful for an adoption book I can finally WHOLLY RECOMMEND, with no caveats at all, to every person who is considering adoption, those prospective parents who are wallowing in paperwork and dreaming of their special child, and those who already have their specially chosen child(ren) at home. All adopted children will feel special when they read this book--and they'll love the fun art, too! My daughter really did!

This book really hit home for us. It is tender and well written and is wonderful for any family with children that you have adopted or someone that you know that has children from their hearts. I highly recommend this book! It is wonderfully illustrated as well.
