Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Children live very busy lives. In this story, the reader follows one child through a very eventful day. After waking up and finding her shoes, the narrator heads off to school (with "a meow bye-bye from kitty cat"). At school, she plays games, eats lunch, listens to a story, and has a nap. Gram picks her and her brother and sisters up from school, then it is dinner time, bath time, and finally bed time. The verses of the story are catchy and unique, very good for reading aloud. Kastner's bright illustrations capture the energy of a child accurately. A young child will enjoy seeing the commonplace events of their day-to-day life described and illustrated in such a fun style, and adults will love the simple yet well-written verse. 2004, Viking, Ages 3 up.

Kirkus Reviews
From dawn to dusk, a young child describes her eventful day. Davis skillfully captures the topsy-turvy world of a preschooler living and coping with a house full of children, working parents, and daycare. From finding her favorite purple underwear to her morning ritual of kissing the kitty goodbye, sprightly rhymes take readers on a merry tour of the child's day, encompassing routines that are easily familiar: circle-time, nap-time, song-filled rides home in the car, and tub time. The day ends on a blissful note, with the family reunited for a bedtime story and snuggly tuck-ins. Kastner's vivid illustrations burst off the pages in bright hues that mirror the effervescent tone, creating compelling images that draw the reader in. This warm, happy tale is just right to start or end a little one's day. (Picture book. 3-6)

The familiar scenes and cute rhyme of this book is a very accurate description of a day in the life of a child who goes to preschool. A great springboard for conversation about WHAT DID YOU DO TODAY? Show your child these great pictures by Jill Kastner, and I bet they'll remember!
