“Lush, beautifully written, and deeply romantic, My Darling Duke will sweep you off your feet. My heart was lost to this couple from the very start.” —Amalie Howard, author of The Beast of Beswick

Miss Katherine Danvers has always been a wallflower. But now, with her family on the brink of financial ruin, she finds herself a desperate wallflower. To save her family, she'll do anything. Luckily, she has the perfect plan...

She’ll impress the ton by simply announcing she is engaged to the reclusive and mysterious Duke of Thornton, Alexander Masters, and secure strong matches for her sisters. No one has heard from the duke in years. Surely he’ll never find out before her sisters’ weddings, and she can go back to her own quiet life.

Soon, though, everything is out of control. At first, it’s just a few new ball gowns on the duke’s accounts. Then, it’s interviews with reporters eager for gossip. Before she knows it, Katherine has transformed herself into Kitty Danvers, charming and clever belle of the ton—with everyone eager to meet her thankfully absent fiancé.

But when the enigmatic Alexander Masters suddenly arrives in the city, dashing and oh so angry, he demands retribution. Except not in the way Katherine expected…

About the Author

Stacy Reid is an avid reader of novels with a deep passion for writing. She especially loves romance and adores writing about people falling in love. Stacy lives a lot in the worlds she creates and actively speaks to her characters (out loud). She has a warrior way, never give up on her dreams. When Stacy is not writing, she spends a copious amount of time drooling over Rick Grimes from The Walking Dead, watching Japanese anime, and playing video games with her love, Dusean Nelson.

Alex is a complicated and scarred man, Kitty is open and kind. A fake engagement, a trip to Scotland and a love which knows no boundaries. This is a wonderfully, emotional story and I couldn't put it down!

My Darling Duke by Stacy Reid Sinful Wallflowers #1 Wallflower friends who have been out for awhile determine to create their own futures by doing what they would never do if diamonds of the first water. This group of friends decide to be a bit scandalous and in so doing forge their own futures...or at least guarantee their families a future. In book one of the series we meet most of the women but hear the story of how Katherine “Kitty” Danvers scandalously claims she is affianced to the Duke of Thornton. When he shows up at a ball she is not sure what will happen but puts her game face on and they meet together in a quiet room to...evaluate. At first I thought this would be a predictable silly story though I have always enjoyed this author’s was predictable in that there is a HEA but unpredictable in the fact that some big issues were discussed and handled with delicacy...well...a bit of steamy delicacy. This book made me think and care and fall for the two main characters while wondering what would happen in book two of the series. What I liked: * The willingness of the wallflowers to move forward with their lives – even if it means scandalous * Kitty – she was willing to do what it took to provide security for her family. I also just liked her strength and willingness to honestly go for what she wanted * Alexander – a man of strength and honor who put his sister first and paid the price for it. He is a good man and once he finally realized what he really wanted – he went for it. * The story – I cared about the outcome and enjoyed reading how the two managed to come together...eventually. * The willingness to tackle a story with real issues that needed to be overcome for the HEA to occur What I didn’t like: * Alexander’s dithering and lack of self-worth – at times * The doctors’ negativity * Having to say goodbye to Katherine and Alexander Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Amara for the ARC – This is my honest review. 4-5 Stars

Brampton Manor, Hertfordshire Katherine (kitty) Danvers, age 22, is part of a group of 6 young women who call themselves the Sinful Wallflowers. While they have each had more than one season, they have yet to attract a husband. When Kitty’s father passed away, their estate went to a cousin leaving Kitty, her sisters, and their mother with very little funds to support themselves. Thus, Kitty is desperate to find a husband to help support her family. When a gossip sheet prints a story saying the Duke of Thornton is looking for a bride, Kitty sends the publisher a letter saying she is the man’s fiancee. She hopes this will open doors for her to help find husbands for her sisters and see them settled. She knows that the duke lives in a remote area of Scotland and not been seen in many years so she hopes he will never learn of this. Perthshire, Scotland, McMullen Castle Alexander Masters, the Duke of Thornton, is a lonely man who bears scars on his face, neck, and other areas of his body which he was burned in a fire trying to save his family. His lives with his spirited sister, Penny, and knows it is time that she was introduced to society. When his lawyer visits and congratulates him on his betrothal, he is surprised and rather amused at what Kitty has done. Intrigued to meet this brazen woman, he travels to meet her. When they meet, she is nervous and apologizes for what she has done and tells him it is only to help her sisters. He then tells her that she alone must return with him to his Castle for two weeks. She finally agrees. When Kitty and Alexander spend time together at the Castle, they learn so much about one another. Kitty is a very strong, sensitive, and loving woman. Alexander is also very strong, but quite damaged. Is there hope for them to be together as a couple and find love? Oh wow! What a beautifully romantic story. I am so impressed at how well the author created these two perfect characters. Her descriptions were wonderfully crafted and she shows she is a truly talented author. Well done! Do read this book. It’s a keeper and one that you wish you could award 6 stars. Copy provided by NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

What an incredible book! The characters are personable and have such depth. This is the story of Katherine, "Kitty", who pretends to be engaged to the elusive Duke of Thornton. Kitty is a charming young lady who will do anything to help her family. Alexander is the Duke of Thornton and he likes the impudence of Kitty to imply they are engaged. He travels to London to find out what type of lady would imply this and finds he is attracted to her. I like the way the author uses the supporting characters within the story to add more depth to the story. This is such a great story, I would definitely recommend it.

Kittie, Miss Katherine Danvers is a wallflower. Her family is almost in financial ruin and she needs a plan to save them all. If she can get betrothed to someone rich with a title, she could secure a match for her sisters. Unfortunately, there is no one like that in her life. She does know someone who has a title, money and hasn't been in London society for years. Maybe a fake betrothal, one that even the groom doesn't know about might be possible. Alexander, the Duke of Thornton finds out about the "engagement" and decides to find out what is going on.He arrives in London angry and handsome. He wants retribution, but not in the way many would think. Alex has been living alone after a terrible accident leaves him scarred and sometimes even leaves him in a wheelchair. When he gives her his demands for continuing with this farce, she goes along. Strong feelings develop. Will Alex believe he can be loved for himself? I loved this book and want to read the rest of the series. I received this book from Net Galley and the publisher for a honest review.

Alexander Masters, Duke of Thornton, has never met Miss Kitty Danvers, but according to the papers, he and she are betrothed. Kitty doesn’t know Alexander, but she knows that he was badly injured a decade ago and has become a recluse. Desperate to help her family by giving her sisters a chance for advantageous marriages, Kitty pretends to be engaged to the reclusive Duke. Once her plan succeeds, she will “break” their engagement. It should work. After all they will never meet. Think again. Curious about Kitty and her motives, Alexander makes a rare trip to London. Their meeting is the beginning of an intensely emotional story. Anyone who likes Beauty and the Beast stories will love this one. The story is sad and sweet, sexy, and fun. A tale full of uncertainty and hope, all wrapped up in love and romance. An awesome cast of characters work to encourage and support Alexander and Kitty. Even though these two are obviously deeply in love, there seems to remain one hurdle. Alexander feels that it is unfair to tie Kitty to a man whose injuries have left him unable to make love to her or to give her children (no small hurdle). Kitty is nothing if not resourceful, and you will love the advice she gets (and takes) on how to turn this situation around and create a happily ever after. I thoroughly enjoyed My Darling Duke and highly recommend it. I received an ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.

LOVED, LOVED, LOVED! Kitty and her friends (the sinful Wallflowers) decide to take matters into their own hands after a few seasons of being ignored by the eligible bachelors of the ton. Now her family is facing financial ruin and she'll do anything to save them. Kitty resolves to spread the rumor that she is engaged to the reclusive Duke of Thornton, in order to secure strong matches for her sisters. No one has heard from the Duke in years and hopefully, he'll never find out before her sisters' weddings. Kitty finds herself suddenly invited to all the important gatherings, everyone eager to meet her mysterious .fiancé. When the Duke suddenly appears, curious to meet the woman claiming to be his fiancé. Where has Stacy Reid been all my life? This was my first novel from her and I couldn't get enough. I really loved these characters Alexander was stoic and Kitty was endearing. They had great chemistry and banter. I loved the scenes where they spent time alone. In the garden, climbing the tree, etc. When he sent her away it was heartbreaking. I was tearing up, even though I knew they would be together in the end.

A wonderful Romance full of mystery and passion. This book was not your typical steamy romance novel. The story between the main characters was a wonderful change. So often, the story is driven by the sex and nothing more, but with this book, the story was driven by the story line itself and that made for stronger connections between the characters, which in turn, leads to a more believable sexy scene. This was a great read!

Miss Katherine Danvers has always been a wallflower. But now, with her family on the brink of financial ruin, she finds herself a desperate wallflower. To save her family, she'll do anything. Luckily, she has the perfect plan... When Katherine pretends to be betrothed to the reclusive and mysterious Duke of Thornton, Alexander Masters, she never imagined he would come to London seeking her out. After all the man had not even been heard from in ten years and is rumored to be either mad or dead. Association to the notorious man is just what she needs to save her family. Soon everything gets totally out of control when the Duke's solicitors show up and ensconce herself, her mother and sisters in a townhouse they never could have afforded on their own. But when the enigmatic Alexander Masters suddenly arrives at a ball, dashing and oh so angry, he demands retribution. Except not in the way Katherine expected… Stacy Reid has seldom disappointed this reader and not at all on this occasion. She has in fact surpassed everything I have come to expect from her. This book being maybe the best I have ever read from her. This book gets a score of 4.9 of 5.0 (rounded up to 5 stars) for story line, plot and characterization. I loved this book and went back to reread several chapters again. I received a complimentary ARC of this title via NetGalley to read. This in no way affected my opinion of this New Years Eve release which I read and am reviewing voluntarily.

A truly romantic story that I couldn't put down! When a desperate and penniless woman pretends to be betrothed to a Duke who has been absent from the ton for years, her whole world explodes when he comes back to call her bluff. "Kitty and her friends had been withering away in the ton, season by season, with no chances of improving their prospects. They were all fairly attractive but could not be considered great beauties, nor were they especially accomplished, having little useful connections and less dowries to inspire any real serious matrimonial attachments." Lady Katherine "Kitty" Danvers, one of the Sinful Wallflowers, penniless and past her prime to marry at three and twenty, desperately needs to find a way to save her younger sisters and mother from being destitute. With the support of her fellow wallflowers, she comes up with a scandalous plan to announce her betrothal to Alexander Masters, the reclusive Duke of Thornton, just long enough to secure suitable matches for her sisters.  "An almost overpowering restlessness came over Alexander. Who are you, Miss Kitty Danvers? Intemperate and reckless, that much he knew. There would be no other reason to summon a beast into her life. Why would anyone say they were engaged to him? What charade was she playing—and why?" When mad, bad, and dangerous Alexander Masters, Duke of Thornton, finds out Lady Danver's duplicity he is intrigued. Called the "puppet master" he is influential with the lords and is a powerful and dangerous adversary. Alexander has been a recluse holed up at his remote estate in Scotland for years due to a devastating fire losing his beloved parents and scarring and breaking his body.  He will never marry due to his inability to produce an heir, but to satisfy his curiosity he demands an unnegotiable arrangement to take her to Scotland for one or two weeks unchaperoned until he is no longer interested in her and in turn his godmother will help her sisters find suitable marriages. I loved watching the sparks fly between Kitty and Alexander.  Kitty's forwardness and charm is an enchanting compliment to Alexander's stoic and straightlaced manner. Alexander's injuries are painful and heartbreaking and I was intrigued by how the author would play it out. Kitty's quick wit and kindness make her a natural to help Alexander with his physical and emotional pain. There are so many wonderful nuances in their interactions that made this reader swoon with anticipation. Overall, this is an enchanting and strikingly romantic tale of two souls who come together in a most unusual and clever way. Another author to add to my favorites! Recommend highly! Thank you to Ms. Reid, Entangled Publishing, and Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

understanding and empathy for her characters. her plotting is top-notch as well. i wish she had a better editor; her sentences are clunky and the grammar and structure is sub-par. these problems distract the reader and really hold her back from moving to the next level with her reid is remarkably talented and unique. it is a shame that she is held back by technical issues that could be easily resolved.

Alexander Masters, Duke of Thornton, was disfigured when his home had caught fire and he ran to save everyone, his parents and sister. He managed to save his sister by having to jump out a window from the third floor. He was scarred over at least half his body and the pain was excruciating when he tried to stand. He had been in isolation for ten years and lived in Scotland. Katherine Iphigenia Danvers along with her three sisters and mother were very poor after their father died. The new Viscount would not help them. They lived in Cheapside and struggled day to day. Kitty as being the oldest tried to take care of everyone but she was a wallflower and a nobody. But she and her sisters in the little group of the Sinful Wallflowers there were five ladies including her, who tried to help each other find a husband. A nice one. She had decided to be betrothed to the Duke of Thornton. Nobody had seen him in ages and when a new rumor about him came out he ignored it. So she felt fairly safe. I have the good luck to have read several of Stacy Reid's enchanting books. I love her writing, it has always been so engrossing. Her characters are always warm and she uses them to keep the tale entertaining. Her words flow smoothly, are easy to read, and exciting. It should be noted that this is sexy and is detailed. I very highly recommend this wonderful book. I received this from Net Galley and voluntarily reviewed it.

I loved reading Kitty and Alexander’s amazing story in My Darling Duke by Stacy Reid book 1 in Sinful Wallflowers series. Katherine, “Kitty”, Danvers might be a wallflower but she would do anything to save her family, after the death of her father. She has a devilish plan; a perfect plan. She will announce that she is engaged to the reclusive and mysterious Duke of Thornton, Alexander Masters, and secure strong matches for her sisters. After all, no one has heard from the duke in years. Most likely he would never find out and once her sisters are married off she can go back to her quiet life. Life doesn’t work quite as Kitty had planned. First she’s called on by one of the duke’s solicitors who moves the family into better quarters and allows her access to the duke’s accounts. Then there are inquisitive reporters eager to interview her for their gossip rags. Before she knows it she has become the center of society with everyone wanting to meet her absent fiancé. Unexpectedly, Alexander Masters arrives in the city wanting to meet this bold woman. Upon meeting, Alexander appears quite angry and demands retribution; but not the way Kitty expected. Kitty was a character after my own heart. Kitty cared about others before herself as evidence by her masquerade. Alexander had been injured in a fire and fall, ten years prior; the burns disfiguring half of his body. One could not help but be moved by him, yet people were repulsed by his scars and he embarrassed when his legs would not work. Not Kitty, she was empathic; wanting to take away his pain and hurt. These two were a perfect match. Ms. Reid wrote an emotional, love story that should not be missed. She provided a tale rich with emotions, sexual chemistry, humor, wonderful dialogue, and endearing characters giving Kitty and Alexander a chance to have a forever love. I highly recommend My Darling Duke to other readers and look forward to the next book in this series. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Katherine is desperate. Her family is in financial ruin and she will do anything to protect her mother and sisters. She transforms herself into "Kitty", a much more outgoing and outrageous person than she normally is. She also lets the ton think that she is engaged to the Duke of Thornton. The reclusive duke has never shown his face in town when the other rumors started about him, so Kitty thinks she will be save from retribution. She just wants the connection to the duke to go long enough for her sisters to find good matches and to save her family from ruin. She didn't count on the duke showing up in London and calling her bluff. Having been scarred and confined to a wheelchair after an accident, Alexander has been secluded at his estate for many years. Which is why is comes as a shock to hear that he has a fiancée. But the more he learns about his "fiancée", the more intrigued he becomes. So much so that he ventures down to London when he hasn't been there in years. After meeting Kitty in person, he decides he wants her for himself, so he makes a bargain with her... Neither ever thought to get married, but could this fake engagement lead to an everlasting love? I absolutely loved Kitty and Alexander's story!! I loved that Kitty would do anything for her family, even invent a fiancé! I loved that she stood up to the beastly side of Alexander and made him see that his injury didn't define him. I just loved these two together!! This was a phenomenal start to Reid's newest series and I can't wait to read the stories to come!

I loved this book and I felt that this was a really special romance. I thought Kitty and Alexander were pure magic together. It was so easy to get swept up into their story and to become deeply invested in their happiness. I found the story to be fun but also very moving. In my opinion this book was part Beauty and The Beast and part mad-cap comedy. Kitty had an amazing heart and even if her plan was crazy and wrong, I honestly couldn't find it in me to dislike her for it. The things we will do for those we love are endless and often unbelievable. As for Alexander, it was impossible not to feel for him. He had been through so much and my heart just ached for him. These two truly deserved to find love and happiness. Such a wonderful read!

received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley in exchange for a fair review. My Darling Duke by Stacy Reid is the first book in the new Sinful Wallflower series. The Sinful Wallflowers are a group of young ladies who tired of being passed by have decided to take decisive action. Katharine (Kitty) Danvers wants to ensure her sisters make suitable matches but she doesn’t have the connections and they don’t have any dowries. She comes up with the idea of pretending to be engaged to Alexander Masters, Duke of Thornton a recluse who never comes to London. While her plan is successful it’s also getting out of hand because between the scandal sheets and the Duke’s lawyers deciding that they should be finding her a house to live in, gowns for balls and a carriage, she has no idea how she will repay all of this. Alexander was severely injured in the fire that took his parents lives, It took a long time for him to heal and he is still badly scared from his injuries. When the news of his engagement reaches him he is at first amused by the audacity of the young woman and then determines he must meet this mysterious lady. This is a delightful Beauty and the Beast story and I enjoyed it very much. Great banter, Medium Steam. Oh, what a tangled web! I absolutely devoured this unique spin on the fake engagement trope! Kitty feels that her time has passed and she's not going to find a husband at all, certainly not one that can help her younger sisters make suitable matches and provide for her widowed mother as well. Feminists today like to decry the marriage-minded ladies in historical romances, but the truth of the matter is that women in those situations had very few avenues to avoid starvation and abject poverty, and only one that maintained their respectability. Kitty's plan is to announce to all and sundry that she's the new fiance of a reclusive duke, one who hasn't been seen in years, hoping that she and her family can reap the social benefits from the association before the unlikely event that he discovers her tale. Alexander removed himself from polite society after a horrific accident left him seriously injured and disfigured. But he can't help admiring the bold ingenuity of the woman claiming to be his fiance, and he sets out to find out what's behind the charade. These two couldn't be more perfect for each other, and their delightful interactions were such a joy to read. They each bring out the very best in the other, while allowing each other to be their true selves, connecting on a soul-deep level that has them both questioning their earlier conclusions. I read this book in one lovely afternoon, and I just adored every page. As the beginning of a new series, we're also introduced to Kitty's friends and fellow Wallflowers and their unique situations. I can't wait to read the next book in this series. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Oh my! With such a tormented, broken hero, it is no wonder I was completely captivated by every word in this book. When Kitty is in desperate need to help her family she makes a wicked decision, sure that she is safe from her lie being discovered. At least by the man she has unknowingly pulled into her deception. Alexander lives a lonely life. He has no hope for the future and lives with the memories of horror as his constant companion. But when he learns about Kitty and the con that she is pulling on London’s society, rather than anger he is intrigued. And soon he is stepping out of the shadows of his home and back into society where Kitty offers the sweetest kind of hope that can never be fulfilled. ’He wanted to know more...everything about her until this perplexing hunger was sated. And suddenly he needed to possess her more than his next breath.’ While Kitty was an interesting heroine, it was Alexander that ruled this story. My heart ached for him and all that he had suffered, continues to suffer. I wanted, needed, him to have a happy ever after. And yet I wasn’t ever sure that was going to happen and if so, what it was going to look like. This is a pretty angsty read with Alexander’s and Kitty’s relationship being the focal point for the drama. Though there is a lot of push and pull from Alexander, it was completely understandable. While you won’t find your standard alpha hero here, you will find a man who struggles with not only what is currently happening to him, but what the future holds. I’m looking forward to reading more about Kitty’s friends and learning what wickedness they get themselves into.

This is an interesting 'beauty & beast' kind of story. I really enjoyed reading it and loved the two main characters. Miss Katherine Danvers is a member of a group of ladies who by all accounts are all wallflowers. But they are tired of being treated poorly by the so-called civilized society. Hence they make a pact to do something wicked and sinful. Katherine took this pact very seriously and announces that she is engaged to Duke of Thornton, Alexander Masters. No one has seen or heard from the Duke in years. She is confident that she will be able to pull this plan without him finding out about it... But no such luck... Alexander finds out about it and decides to see what his 'fiance' is like. When he meets her, he is not angry rather he is intrigued by her and soon things are out of control for both them to handle. But can there really be a happily-ever-after for a wallflower and a reclusive Duke who is hiding many demons of his own? I find this story very entertaining and because it is historical fiction so, of course, it is all the more fun. I'd definitely recommend this book to all historical fiction fans.

Lindsey left behind some large shoes to fill and Reid is well on her way to proving herself up for the challenge. My Darling Duke transforms the way we look at romance. Katherine and Alexander capture attention with their larger than life personalities and fiery spirits. Emotions give way to an inspiring journey of hope that will leave any heart hauntingly breathless.

This is a touching beauty and the beast story by new to me author Stacy Reid. Wallflower Kitty boldly declares her engagement to a reclusive Duke. The scarred Duke, Alexander, comes out of seclusion to meet this upstart. Ms. Reid writes a great chemistry between a sweet, yet desperate, woman and a scarred man. I received an ARC from NetGalley for my honest review.
