Gah! I wanted to like this book so much because the idea of the story had such huge potential but the whole thing fell quite flat for me. Right from the beginning something about the heroine irked me, I didn't even realize what her name was until half way through the book. The idea of this book is that two people were lovers twenty years ago and circumstances separated them and now twenty years, kids and failed relationships later they find themselves with a second chance. "Fate. Second chances. Because I can't stand living without you anymore. I can't stop asking myself all those what ifs. What if we'd stayed together, what if I hadn't been with someone else when you came back that one summer? What if I'd kept writing after I didn't hear from you? All the what ifs I've collected through my life. A bagful, you could say. I've got one of them answered at least: what if she tells me to leave right away?" From the first words on the page, Mia came across as weak and whiny. Her first love Adrian comes rolling back into her life causing her heart and libido to wake up after a long slumber. Adrian asks her for a chance to reunite which she immediately agrees to but she wants to take it slow. Ok, at this point even though something about her annoys me I'm ok with this but then she goes home and her cheating ex husband is there and because her sex drive is woken she toys with the idea if getting her horny rocks off with him. The fact that she still had a sexual relationship with him after the divorce and cheating was enough for me to get frustrated with her. I got the guilt about ending her relationship with her ex because of the kids but the rest I didn't get when it came to her thoughts with her ex. This book was ok. There were so many details thrown into this book that really didn't add to anything going on in the story. I think they were to build character but instead for me it was the opposite effect. I did finish it in the hopes it was going to get better as some books do but unfortunately for me that was not the case.

My First My Last was a fun read. Mia is reunited with her first love, aftera twenty year separation. She has kids, and an ex husband who wants her back, making things much more complicated now than they were back then. Adrian moved back to the states in hopes of expanding his business into the area, and in hopes of seeing if Mia was willing to give their love another chance. He isn't the young man he was twenty years ago either. The story leads you through the events that will shape their new relationship. The fact that they still feel the connection has to work around dealing with Dan, Mia's ex, and his drinking issues, as well as having her children accept that their mother has a new person in her life. Yes, there are issues in any relationship, especially one that involves a blended famiky. An open mind and a willing heart go a long way in making things work. This story makes you believe in second chances!

I enjoyed this book from beginning to end. The characters, Mia and Adrian, were reunited after being apart for 20 years. Their journey to overcome obstacles and find love again was so well described. One of Lacey Silks best books! I'm still thinking about this book long after finishing it.

My Thoughts: I absolutely loved the first two books in the Layers trilogy, so when this one was out, I was very excited to read about new characters by the talented Lacey Silks. And this heartwarming story about second chances really showcased the author's talent. Mia and Adrian have been through a lot since they first fell for each other years ago. Their lives have changed dramatically--marriage and children and divorce. But they're here now, and their feelings that were long buried have resurfaced. Is it possible for them to get their second chance? It's worth a chance, right? Watching the two of them draw closer again was the sweetest thing. It's a slow burn, and the love is still there, blossoming all over again. My First, My Last is a touching story about old love becoming new again. I loved the premise, and I love the idea of their love never dying. As the story neared the end, I was on the edge of my seat, hoping for everything to turn out okay. Lacey Silks never ceases to amaze with her stories. If you haven't picked up a book by her, you definitely need to get one and see how great she is. My Rating: Very Good

This book was an indepth story of a woman's attempt to have a relationship after a cheating ex-husband. Mia runs into her first love from her youth and is stunned. She decides to try and rekindle the flame between them but has doubts, just like most devoted women who birthed children and think they are making a happy home. As Mia tests the waters, her ex tries to reestablish himself. This in turn makes for many twists for Mia and Adrian! The ending was so romantic and well worth the turmoil!

5 stars = I freaking LOVED this book Adrian Reed. He is absolutely perfect. I don’t have many book boyfriends, but Adrian has just joined the short-list. He’s a hot, tattooed, pierced bad boy … on the outside. On the inside, he’s a total romantic who is still deeply in love with his first love, Mia. Even after 20 years, he loves her as much as the day he let her go. So much so, that he’s moving his company half-way around the world so that they can have a second chance at love. Now if THAT is romantic, I don’t know what is.  As much as I love Adrian, I adore Mia. She divorced her husband a year ago for infidelity, yet still manages to maintain an extremely amicable relationship with him for the sake of their children. While she has some insecurities regarding Adrian’s reappearance and his long-term intentions, they’re quite reasonable considering their history and her divorce and Ms. Silks presents them in such a way that Mia doesn’t come off as an overly-angsty character. Both Mia and Adrian’s characters are so realistic that I found myself connecting to them almost immediately. It was a joy to witness the rekindling of their love as their relationship was reestablished and strengthened. The chemistry between Adrian and Mia was amazing, making the sex scenes unbelievably hot. Again. Adrian Reed. New book boyfriend.  Ms. Silks has written a beautiful second chance romance that was a delight to read. That said, I need to apologize to Ms. Silks for all of the curses and nasty names I called her in my head when I started reading chapter 29. I literally had to put my Kindle down and walk away from it for a little bit. While it was not the way I wanted the story to go and I didn’t expect to need tissues while reading My First, My Last, I understand the author’s decision for taking it in that direction and it only made the epilogue that much sweeter. This book has definitely earned a spot on my re-read list.  I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.  Reviewed by Angela at Crystal's Many Reviewers!

The one that got away will always haunt your heart and thoughts with what ifs!  Twenty years ago two young hearts from different continents found each other and fell deeply in love.  While visiting her aunt in Europe she meets and fell in love with a young man that was a friend of her family.  They had been inseparable for two summers and then fate stepped in and tore them apart.  She returned to Toronto and he remained behind.  Even though they continued to correspond for the next two years it reached a point where neither of them could move on without breaking all contact.   Twenty years later Mia is divorced and the proud mother of two beautiful children.  While out with friends for a ‘Girl’s Night’ she notices a man at the bar that looks just like her first love.  When he approaches her and calls her by the pet name that only Adrian called her she realizes that maybe life is offering a second chance.  Adrian was her first love and now he wants to be her last love too.  Should she give their love a chance? Adrian had never married but had a son.  He expresses his need for her to give them the opportunity to see if their love is still there and they can finally be together.  Can Mia make the final break with her cheating ex that wants her back?  Will Adrian help his ‘Tinkerbell’ find her faith again in forever love?   Overall Rating:  4 Rockin’ Stars Hero –Adrian Reed: 4 stars Heroine –Mia “Tinkerbell’: 4 stars Steam: 4 stars  Plot: 4 stars  Cliffhanger: No Would I recommend this book: Yes! If you believe that true love can last even when separated for twenty years, then this is a must read book for you.  It is packed full of love, laughter, heartbreak and the journey two lovers take to reunite. Would I read other books by this author: Yes! This was my first book by this author that I have read and she did not disappoint me!  I look forward to reading more from this amazing author! ***Received an ARC of this book from the Author in exchange for an honest review***

WOW! This book perfectly captures what happens after divorce. Can you find true love again? Can you open yourself up to the possibility of marriage? Even if it’s with your first love? Sometimes you have to give love a second chance. Sometimes you should give your first love a second chance. Because sometimes it works out. Newly divorced Mia finds herself dating her first love, Adrian. Separated for 20 years, these two give love a second chance. Blended families. A jealous ex-husband. A guarded heart. All difficult hurdles these love birds must overcome to see if their love will endure. My Random Thoughts on This Book: #1 This was my first time reading about an older couple. (Not too old more like in their 40s) Because of this, they are more mature and make better decisions. A lot different from the other books that I read. No drama. No silly mind games. Both Mia and Adrian knew what they wanted. #2 This was a sweet story. Very heartfelt. Cue the violin. I love when soulmates reunite. I can’t believe Adrian waited his entire life to marry her.  When Adrian asked her to be his first and last wife, my eyes started watering up. #3 The buildup. Can you imagine waiting 20 years for the love of your life? Can you imagine the first time you have sex again? Fireworks. Overrall, the story didn’t move me. I didn’t hate it nor did I love it. There were moments when I wished the story would move along, and other times when I enjoyed the pace. I give this book 3.5 stars.

Wow! I really enjoyed this book! The story line sucked me in from page one and kept me glued to my tablet from beginning to end. I loved the characters and their personalities. Adrian and Mia were together when they were young and have now found each other again after years apart. Adrian is sexy and sweet. I could feel the charge between them every time there was a scene where they were in the same room. The sexy scenes were seriously steamy and I got close to needing a fan a few times. Mia has dealt with some not so great times while they’ve been apart but when they get back together, you can tell they have that chemistry that few get to experience. The story line flowed well and kept me interested and entertained the whole time. I seriously think Adrian gave me hot flashes a few times. That man is on fire! This was a wonderful story of reconnecting and I loved every minute of it. The characters’ personalities were very likeable. The scene descriptions were well written and I easily imagined everything in my mind’s eye. 5 out of 5 stars!

This is a wonderfully written story about betrayal and lost love. The fact that the characters were mature, with past relationships to manage, sets this book apart – refreshingly - from many novels of the genre. The characters were well developed, making it easy to pick a side, to either love or hate. The first ‘intimate’ scene between Mia and Adrian was so beautifully choreographed I had to reread it. The parts of the story with ‘dramatic buildup’ made me wish I could read faster. And not since Elena in FSOG have I wanted to get my ‘cat claws’ into a story’s antagonist. I would love to see a sequel to this book, as there were hints of ‘flavours other than vanilla’ that could be fully explored. I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

My First, My Last by Lacey Silks  4 1/2 of 5 stars  20 years ago Mia and Adrian fell in love. Since then they have both had children, Mia has gotten married and divorced and now Adrian has moved across the Atlantic to find her, his first true love.  The only problem is, Mia has given up on love. Her ex-husband cheated on her, he drank too much, but now he is fighting to win her back. Adrian is all grown up and wants the girl he has spent the last 20 years dreaming about. He is going to fight for Mia and win.  Both men want the same woman, but who does Mia want? Who will make her the most happy?  Adrian makes you want to believe in love! He is so romantic and loves Mia so much it just comes through the pages and into your soul.  This story was pleasantly happy with very little drama or angst, which is just what you need sometimes. I would recommend it without hesitation. *A complimentary copy was given in exchange for an honest review* Susan, My Secret Book Spot

New version July 2014, longer story. Sigh! My heart feels good after reading this amazing second chances love story. Adrian and Mia fell in love in as teenagers but as happens in life, they lived on 2 different continents and things happened causing them to drift apart. What we learn is that neither one ever stopped loving the other. Now they are older, wiser juggling careers and parenthood. Mia gets the shock of her life when Adrian shows up at the club where she is spending time with friends. Can these two long lost soul mates find a way through ex-husbands, kids, jobs to make it back to each other? A beautiful romantic look at second chances and how wonderful true love really is.
