About the Author

Dr. Mary Hilaire (Sally) Tavenner of Dutch Ink Publishing is an educator, public speaker and author of seven other books. Nun of is and Nun of at: Book One: Beginnings; Nun of is and Nun of at: Book Two: Making Vows; France, 1996; Peru, 2002; Puerto Rico, 2006; A Portrait of Helen Steiner Rice and Memories of Mom: They Called her "Dutch". In 1980, Dr. T. was fi rst asked by ABC-TV to be a script consultant for their $3 million docudrama on the life of Mother Seton, "A Time for Miracles". Soon after that, Hilaire was flown to Georgia to attend the filming to promote, teach, and assist the cast and crew regarding Elizabeth Ann Seton's life. In 1975, then "Sister" Mary Hilaire's Mother General, Mother M. Viola Kiernan, sent Hilaire to Rome to attend the Canonization of America's First Native Born Saint, representing both Mother Viola (who could not attend at that time) and the Sisters of St. Francis of Syracuse, New York. In 2005, Dr. Hilaire Tavenner returned to Rome to attend the Beatification of Mother Marianne Cope, aka Mother Marianne of Molokai, a former Mother General of the Syracuse Franciscan Order. (MMM was Canonized in 2012.) In 2016, Dr. Tavenner returned to the Vatican to participate in the Canonization of St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta. Hilaire had personally met Mother Teresa four times, and they had come to know each other. While a Franciscan Sister and teaching in Puerto Rico in 1984, Hilaire personally met St. John Paul II. At that time, "Sister" Mary Hilaire, placed in the hands of the Holy Father "her letter of resignation" from the religious Community. Dr. Tavener is the Founder and President of the International Writers Association /Friends of Helen Steiner since 1999. Dr. T taught about 3,000 children and about 2,000 adults during her 46 year teaching career in New York, Ohio, Florida and Puerto Rico; she also served as an adjunct Professor for the University of South Florida, Tampa, Tiffin University, Cleveland State University, Ashland University and Lorain County Community College in Ohio. Dr. T taught G. E. D. (General Education Diploma/Degree) and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other and Languages) for 12 years.
