About the Author

Julie Manning is a wife to her beloved husband, John, mother of three fun-loving boys, and pediatric nurse practitioner. At the age of twenty-five, Julie left her career in corporate America to pursue a degree in nursing. While in nursing school, the Lord birthed a passion within Julie to care for children with heart disease. Little did she know seven years later, she would learn that her own heart was sick. The Lord’s pursuit of Julie’s heart and soul through the valley of facing many uncertainties has developed a fire within her to live intentionally from moment to moment as it may be her last.

I think a universal fear of every mother is that something will happen to them while their children are young and they will be left to grow without her. I know it was an underlying fear of mine and that of my friends. In My Heart Julie Manning finds herself facing that scenario head on. For all intents and purposes Julie's life had been relatively normal. She married the love of her life, she had a very fulfilling career, and they had a darling boy and were soon expecting a second one. Then out of left field an unknown heart condition appears. I will admit that for the first half of this book I was in desperate need of Kleenex. Julie's story is gut-wrenching. All of those mommy fears came true. Second opinions didn't give different answers. Begging and pleading to God didn't change the circumstances. But what slowly began to emerge was beautiful. In the midst of such brokenness, healing was found. Her heart was still broken but her soul had found rest. Julie's journey is one that we are all on. We may not have a life-threatening physical condition, but we all have broken hearts that need healing. I enjoyed Julie's willingness to let us look in on her private struggle. She allows herself to be vulnerable in order that you and I will see how Jesus broke through all the changes and became the unmovable and unchanging force in her life. You can't help but be inspired by her words and encouraged to take similar actions in your own life. I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.

This is a memoir, a journal, a love letter too. Beautifully written prayers of desperation, of unbelief, of raw emotion. The author laid her heart out bare in this book. It is real. It is not sugar coated. It's not all happiness and faith. I feel like I can relate to the author on so many levels. Not because I have a heart condition but because these emotions and struggles she deals with in the book are real everyday every one kind of struggles. What she learned and wrote about in the book can be applied by everyone in any struggle. I want my heart to beat hard after my savior. Read this book!

I absolutely loved this book. Julie wrote with such honesty and so much encouragement. Her words were kind and true, and everything she went through is such a testament to how good God is and how His ways are truly higher than ours.

I was invited to be a part of the Launch Team for Julie Manning’s book, My Heart, knowing nothing about the author or the basis of the book. From the first chapter, I was captivated with the heartbreaking and heartwarming story of Julie’s faithwalk and struggles as she was diagnosed with pregnancy-induced heart failure. I have highlighted sections of nearly every chapter with truths about God—who He is, how He works in our lives, and how much He loves each one of us. I never expected to be so challenged and uplifted by Julie’s story and her vulnerable openness. Her letters to her boys remind me of the words in Deuteronomy 6 to teach our children continuously about God. We see her trust in God’s promises and faithfulness grow through each crisis. This book is truly an inspiration, and I highly recommend it. Thank you, Julie, for sharing your life, your faith, and your wisdom.

My Heart is a touching, heart felt true story of a Mother whose life was changed by a heart condition. The words written by this author caused me to wonder how I would feel if I knew my life might be shortened due to illness. Would everyone in my life know how much I love them? What words of wisdom could I pass on to my family? I applaud this author for sharing her most special thoughts with the world. Truly a very special book. Bring the tissue box when reading this one. The love the author feels for her children is precious. I received a copy of this book from the author and publisher and this is my personal honest opinion.

Julie Manning weaves an emotional picture of the very real feelings she experienced after being diagnosed with heart failure as a mother of two very young children. “My Heart” challenges us to fully rely on our faith even though the odds are against us. Interwoven throughout the book are heartfelt letters she writes to her boys telling them how dearly they are loved and she begs them to always put God first in their lives despite the obstacles that may come their way, including possibly losing their mother. Bring a box of tissue with you when beginning this book, but know that you’ll be heading back for your Bible before the book ends.
