Linda LaRoque's western time travel is a definite keeper. Once I started, I didn't want to put the book down. This story has it all; a feisty heroine, a strong, handsome hero, deep emotion, humor, drama, and a complex plot line with enough twists and turns to keep you guessing until the end. LaRoque's writing style is compelling and her characters are so well drawn, they spring to life on the page. The vivid descriptions of Texas and the people who inhabited Waco during that time period made me feel I'd been transported back in time along with Texanna. I'd recommend this book to anyone who loves the historical west, cowboys, and time travel.

Okay, so this book is set in Waco, Texas. I'm from Waco. One of the main characters has a last name of Dyson. This is my married name as well. However, I cannot even imagine what it would be like if, through some quirk called Time Travel, one of my relatives boarded a train from 1880's Waco on her way to San Antonio and woke up in the Twenty-first Century. How strange to be stared at while modestly dressed in 'antique' clothing. The nerve of these people, many extremely scantilly clothed to the extreme that you'd feel the need to cover them up using your parasol. Yet, this is exactly how Pearl Dyson found herself one day, never able to find the precise way to get back to her husband and young son. On top of that, she found out in history books where her husband, Marshall Royce Dyson, was shot to death during a bank robbery. Even her son had been so distraught by the abandonment by his mother and murdered father that he became involved in a gang and was shot and killed in a train robbery. What Pearl discovered was that, through a certain twist of fate, the turquoise locket she wore the day she boarded that train was the key to get back to Royce and her son. Too late for her ailing body to make the trip, she convinces a very extremely relunctant neighbor who even looks very much like Pearl as a younger lady, Texanna Keith, to go back to Waco to get Royce to listen to what she has found out in the history book in order to save both husband and son. Texanna does not believe anything Pearl has explained, but as a friend of this frail lady she has this connection to, Texanna takes the locket and boards the train - dressed in tight jeans and very revealing top - pretty much attire of a harlot in 1880 Waco. Yep, midway to Waco something happens and the air-conditioned railcar is now a dusty and very hot antique-like one with everyone dressed modestly. The adventure begins as Texanna tries to find a way to explain to Royce what happened to Pearl with the help of letters and old newspaper clippings from that time. Easier said than done. What does Royce tell the others who think Texanna is Pearl? One thing Texanna didn't consider is how quickly she becomes attached to Pearl and Royce's son, Garrett, especially knowing his fate literally in her hands. How will she ever convince Royce to sit down and listen to her, much less believe her. Another problem emerges as Texanna fights the overwhelming love attraction between herself and her best friend's husband! It's a situation that doesn't happen very often when the best friend is probably 60 years her senior. Ms. LaRoque's characters, every single one of them are full of life, love and interest. She has a way of slowly allowing you to get to know them without bogging down in their relationships. She is able to quickly develop them into people you'd swear you've known already. My Heart Will Find Yours is such an appropriate title. Texanna is on a mission for Pearl but ends up helping several characters, especially her own. The writing style is easy to read and leaves you wanting to go further. Just when you think you have things figured out, the plot twists yet again. The author does a great job of bringing from present to past and back in a very fluid manner. You really will not want to put the book down until you are finished. Ms. LaRoque has many novels and short stories out now, and I'm sure you'll love this one. It is book one of a series. Book two will be out in the Fall.
