Reviewed by Melinda Hills for Readers' Favorite As a dutiful daughter and subject of King George, Lady Juliet Kingston agrees to travel to Scotland to marry the son of an important Laird in My Highlander Husband by Nancy Pennick. Unsure of what to expect, Juliet discovers similarities between castle McClaren and her home, making the idea of leaving the man she loves a bit easier. Then, when she finally meets Ross, the chemistry flares and Juliet becomes devoted to him and his family. War breaks out between the Jacobites, supporters of the exiled King James, and George, the King of England. Unable to accept Juliet’s decision to remain in Scotland, her former beau, Lord John Alder, decides to trade her for the McClaren family’s peace. As the conflict continues, some family is lost and others must flee persecution for their role in past misdeeds, bringing sorrow to everyone concerned. Will Juliet ever be a real part of the family and have a life with her Highlander Husband? My Highlander Husband by Nancy Pennick is a delightful historical romance without some of the graphic steaminess some might expect. The characters are strong with distinct personalities and they move through the action quite realistically. Descriptions of the scenery and settings are detailed, putting you right into the story with the characters. The history of the period comes alive with back stories and a broader description of the conflict and its consequences. Thoroughly enjoyable and interesting! This is certainly a book to be enjoyed by anyone who is partial to Scottish historical novels and it makes a wonderful first volume of what should be a successful series, The Clan McClaren. I look forward to the other books in the series.

This was an okay read for me. The story has a good premise and is entertaining however if you like a romance with a little steam this isn’t it. It does have plenty of suspense and drama, I just like a bit more chemistry between my hero and heroine.

A copy of this book was given to me for a fair review. First off...I don't seek out Scottish romance, and am not a Highlander historical romance fan. But I found this work highly entertaining. The characters are all well developed, the plot action that plays out is satisfying for those of traditional romance novels, yet there are enough twists to keep the reader guessing. Both the protagonists and the antagonists (and those that switch roles midbook) were believable, and very well crafted; I could see them all as real people, with hopes, fears, loves, and hates. If you do like Scottish historical fiction, you will LOVE this! Period.

'My Highlander Husband' by Nancy Pennick is the story of Lady Juliet and Ross. Juliet is a English women that has been sent to marry Ross who is a Highlander. The marriage is to calm threats of a Jacobite uprising. But Juliet is in love with a English man named John. Her heart is broken but she goes to meet Ross as instructed. But when she sees Ross she is shocked that she finds him attractive and enjoys his company. Ross too did not want to marry and English women but his father has ordered him to do so. So Ross too is caught off guard by his immediate feelings for Juliet. This was a sweet and clean read that was really enjoyable. "My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read."
