A cursed destiny. A band of warriors. And one troubled kingdom.

It is whispered in Agathia that the legendary warriors of the mist—cursed by the gods—can be summoned only when a champion is needed and the cause is just. Gideon, their captain, knows this to be the one path that will lead his men to redemption—lest they face an eternity of damnation.

Years have passed since anyone has journeyed to the river’s edge, but times are desperate. Oppressed by a cruel guardian whose dark magic threatens to destroy her people, the beautiful and courageous Merewen calls upon the bespelled warriors. In Gideon she finds more than a champion, and in his arms, more than protection. However, their enemies are fighting with a power darker than anything than they imagined, and should Gideon fail, she will lose everything she holds dear—including her heart.

Absolutely awesome story!!! I loved every page and I can hardly wait until the next book in the series, Her Knights Quest, is out! I haven't read a lot of fantasy, though I'm beginning to, and this story kept my attention all the way through keeping me up way too late to get to the end. I love Alexis Morgan's writing style and have loved all her paranormal romance books. I'm so happy she's branched off and decided to add fantasy. The Damned are warriors who can be called to fight a cause that the Gods who have imprisoned these men see worthy and will allow them to be called forth. Each warrior also has the aide of an avatar, an animal that resides on their shield. The warriors are damned to spend eternity, or however long the gods will it, beneath a river and once they are released to roam the earth, they have only 3 months in which to complete whatever quest they've been called upon to do. In all the times they've been called before, they were always called by men and they did their job and returned to the river to be judged. This time, they are called by a woman, Merewen... a woman with special powers... and they soon find that the challenge they are facing is no simple matter of just taking back Merewen's family keep from her evil uncle, Fagan. Even though they must eventually defeat Fagan, there is much darker magic at work and they hope they don't run out of time before the dark magic takes over all of Agathia. I love every one of the Damned! Gideon, the Captain, is really the main focus in this first book, but Alexis shows us that all the other Damned are affected by the people of this land. I can't wait to learn more about each warrior, especially, Kane, the dark. And Alexis didn't disappoint with the balance between action and love interests. Alexis writes some of the most beautiful love scenes EVER! Whether it's just a kiss, the first teasing touches of foreplay or a quick moment of passion hidden away in a clearing, each is full of romantic tension and love.

Very enjoyable read. I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline with the "Damned" coming up out of the lake and coming to the aid of Merewen. Gideon is a strong, passionate hero. I loved the secondary characters as well as the knights avatars. Loved the worldbuilding. Very well done! I rooted for the hero/heroine to get together all the way to the end. I'm very much looking forward to reading more in the series and am really wanting to know how it will end.

Reviewed by: Jen Book provided by: contest win at Romance Junkies Review originally posted at Romancing the Book I admit, I have a weakness for medieval romance. And when this book landed in my hands, I was intrigued. I mean, the blurb says that our heroine is going to call forth warriors from the river to be her champion. That in itself hooked me. So we have Merewen, a woman who is well, your typical headstrong romance heroine, but she’s not what you’d picture as the typical medieval lady. She stands up to her uncle, breaks the rules, goes and summons these cursed men to help her… and so on. Most of the time I enjoyed watching Merewen as she fought tooth and nail for what she wanted. Every once in a while, I would get frustrated with her (as did her hero, Gideon), but then things would right themselves and we’d move onward in our tale. Gideon on the other hand is the captain of the five cursed warriors who are called forth by Merewen. He’s a bit jaded after centuries of damnation. But he’s intrigued about why the gods would grant Merewen her wish for a champion… and attracted to the lass as well. Gideon’s yo-yoing feelings were completely understandable, especially since he didn’t want to fall in love just to return to the river when their task is done. The concept of the damned warriors rising to be champions is interesting, and one that I hadn’t really read before. I liked the twist that was provided with the men’s companions… each one was unique to the warrior, rather a animal reflection of their personality. The book is just the first step in what appears to be an overarcing plot with an evil wizard wrecking ruin on the land… and of course, these warriors are the ones who will stop him. This is a solid debut to the series. I enjoyed the non-romance parts of the book more, since there is so much world building. The action scenes were vivid and I almost felt as if I was standing in the middle of the battles. The characters were plentiful and diverse. The bad guys were deviously bad, and the good guys… well, they sure weren’t saints but I was rooting them on anyway. I am definitely looking forward to future books in this story as I just have to know what happens next.

Loved it! When I spotted this book at my local BN, I couldn't resist it. The cover is just so gorgeous, I had to see what it was about. I'm so glad I bought it! My Lady Mage was a great mix of romance and fantasy. Loved the five warriors and their animal avatars. Captain Gideon and Lady Merewen are great together. Can't wait for the next one to see what happens next! I'm putting this series at the top of my Must Read list!

I love this book!! It's different from the author's Paladin series, but just as good!!! Can't wait for the next one. Kept me up past my bedtime, which is how I judge if a book is good or not. If I can put it down, I'm not going to buy that author again and I couldn't put this one down!

Morgan's "My Lady Mage" is an entertaining, though very light weight, fantasy romance. The characters are interesting, and I love the bantering between the Damned. However, Morgan's worldbuilding is negligable; this is a very generic fantasy world, with nothing to distinguish it from most of the other fantasy worlds out there. I will probably stick around for the next book in the series, but, if it cannot hold my interest, I will not bother with the rest.

“My Lady Mage” by, Alexis Morgan “My lady mage” is a wonderful example of romance mixed with fantasy. Merewen is a young lady who by rights should be ruling over her keep and her people in the land of Agathia. She was born with a magic that connects her to the finest horses in the land. By using this magic she ensures that her home and people are able to live and make money. However, when her father dies, her uncle Fagan comes to the keep and takes control of Merewen and her people. Fagan is a cruel and wicked man who cares only for himself and power. After being abused by both her uncle and his men Merewen and her people have become desperate. Merewen finds an ancient spell to summon the five warriors of the river and decides to call on them for help. The gods hear her plea and because of the pureness of her heart they grant her request. (Enter the warriors) Gideon- Captain of the warriors, he is strong and honorable. Kane-Touched by dark magic, he is dedicated to the other warriors but he has a dangerous side. Murdoch-Haunted by his past, he is a good fighter and defender of those who are weak. Duncan-Like the other warriors he is a good fighter but his real love is books and learning. Averel-He is the youngest and most lighthearted of the group. “My lady mage” is first and foremost a lovely romance between Merewen and Gideon but it’s packed with so much more. The author paints a beautifully wild midieval style world for the readers to explore and enjoy. This story also has enough darkness and mystery woven through it to captivate everyone. I loved the warriors in this book, they were fierce and chivalrous, and I can’t wait to read the rest of their stories. For me, the brightest parts of this story were Merewen and Alina (Fagan’s wife). These two women weren’t your typical waifish girls; they were smart and determined to survive the darkness that surrounded them. I have so much more that I would like to say but I don’t want to give everything away. I own all of Alexis Morgan’s books and “My lady mage” is a great addition to my collection. This is the start of the warriors of the mist series and I can’t wait to read the rest. The second installment will be out in March 2013 and it will be called “Her knight’s quest”.

I was lucky enough to get a preview copy of this book. Most know Alexis Morgan from her Paladin series and though I love the Paladins - I must say the Warriors of the Mist rank right up there with them. I love these cursed warriors. But though he's not the hero of this book I must say that Kane is my favorite. If you've read the Paladins - Kane reminds me of Blake Trahearn of the Paladin series. He also reminds me of Zarek from Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunters and Zsadist from J.R. Wards Black Dagger Brotherhood. The dram for the series is wonderful - Warriors who fight for a just cause called forth to battle an evil - even the one who called them is not aware of. The Lady Mage is definitely a park your butt and read in one sitting book. So many different plot lines going on but so well managed that you are never left feeling they take over the romance. Definitely a book that I would recommend you run - not walk - to the bookstore to get when it comes out in July.
