Alexandra Canarsie (great name) has a very unusual hobby. Reeling from being uprooted once again by her single mom, she arrives in her mother's hometown and entertains herself by attending the funerals of strangers. She's grieving, too -- missing the father she hasn't had since her parents' divorce years earlier. At one funeral however, she realizes the deceased, who died in a swimming accident, is a boy who would otherwise have been in her class at school. Alexandra becomes obsessed with the boy and learns things about him which convince her his death was not an accident. She goes on a quest to prove it was murder. This may sound heavy, but the plot is leavened by Alexandra's sardonic take on life and a lively cast of lovable characters, including Alexandra herself. A very fun read.
