Keep a tight grip on your heartstrings! In "My Life With Snoopy," author Joey Camen recounts his thirteen year friendship with Snoopy, the dog he adopted from an animal shelter. The story is at times humorous, at others heart-wrenchingly sad. It is an inspiring picture of the love that Camen has for his Snoopy - from their first meeting until long after Snoopy's passing. Written in Camen's unique style, it was a wonderful read that had me laughing out loud, and then crying as he shared his grief at the loss of his long-time friend. This book is sure to please everyone that feels that pets are people too. A definite "I'm glad I read it!"

“My Life with Snoopy” is an inspiring non-fiction read about a man’s deep and true love for his adopted shelter dog, Snoopy. The author begins with his childhood, growing up in Detroit and moving to Tucson, then back again. His family is poor and he often feels like an outsider, and he briefly finds joy with a puppy given to him by his uncle—a puppy he names Snoopy. When his parents callously give Snoopy away, the author takes a long time to heal, and you can tell it affected him very deeply.  However, the author takes a chance on a handsome shelter puppy, and it changes his life. From the beginning, you can tell he and Snoopy have a strong bond—he writes of Snoopy with great affection and love. Through marriage, his career as a comedian and voice-over artist, and the trials of homeownership, Snoopy is a constant.  The author has a friendly and conversational style of writing that make this an entertaining and easy read. I particularly liked the author’s depictions of Snoopy’s interactions with other dogs and people they met on their shared path through life (as well as Snoopy’s friendship with Melvin the cat); from the Dim-Witted Cocker Spaniel to Betty the Junkyard Cat, the stories are filled with gentle humor and appreciation of our four-legged friends. The book also deals with the resulting grief after a friendship with a pet is cut short by age and illness, and that makes the ending a bittersweet one. I’d recommend this to readers who love animals and those who enjoy memoirs; if you liked books like “Marley and Me” and “Dewey” you will like “My Life with Snoopy” as well.

If you don’t believe that pets can become as close as family members, or if you have recently lost a companion of your own, this book is a must-read. Joey Camen takes you through the years before and those spent with his beloved dog all the way to the tearful end. I found myself feeling a whole range of emotions while reading this story, and Camen’s witty writing style will keep you glued with wonder to what happens next. ‘My Life with Snoopy’ is a fantastic gift for an animal enthusiast in your life, and definitely one to read again in the future!

A sweet and significant story A friend suggested I read this book and I am so glad I took his suggestion. I had an amazing little dog growing up that changed my life. I smiled at some of the descriptions the author used with his dog, really smart, deep brown eyes and a snout that wasn’t too long or too short, a bushy tail and white legs – that described my puppy! It also made me wonder if like my dog Snoopy ever hid his tail if you dared to shave it :) This book is well written and very detailed; I could quite vividly see everything he is describing. I bought this book because of my love of dogs but this story is about so much more than “just a man and his dog”. It begins with the author’s childhood in Detroit and the trauma that happened in relation to dogs. What was so poignant to me was the author’s realization of how having his love and trust betrayed by those closest to him affected his whole outlook on life. And the sweetest part is that this love and trust was only able to be mended by the unconditional love shown to him by his “new” Snoopy. This is a beautiful story, but also a great introspective look into human psyche. It still amazes me how events that may seem insignificant or silly to adults can completely change the course of a child’s life. I would definitely recommend this book to animal lovers, psychologists, those interested in people/animal relationships, and those just looking for an interesting and sweet read. Definitely a great buy.

I read the book together with my daughter and we both really enjoyed it. My daughter could learn about the relationship between an owner and a dog - we don't have any pets. The book is very personal and that is what takes it to the next level. I'm giving it 5 stars!

I really enjoyed this book. It’s well-written, and easy and quick to read. The author, Joey Camen let’s you feel the love he had for Snoopy with his words. I smiled and laughed throughout the book and then cried when I read the “I Miss” poem. I also adopted my cat from the Burbank Animal Shelter where Snoopy came from. This is an excellent read that is even appropriate for children, a great statement about the advantages of adopting pets from an animal shelter. Thank you, Mr. Camen for sharing your heartfelt journey with Snoopy.

Camen's book is tender, emotional and is geared not only towards dog owners, but to those who enjoy a real heartwarming story also. A couple of laughs soften the blow of the drama-soaked tale about a rescued dog who became a forever friend. The author's approach is modest, yet his voice is strong and many readers will find themselves nodding their heads in agreement when he shares his genuine feelings and warm memories. This touching memoir will thoroughly please canine enthusiasts and animal lovers alike

A really sweet and touching tale of the love between man and his best friend. As a dog owner and parent to two lovely dogs I can attest to how they can enrich one's life and bring about change as well and Camen cleverly articulates this with wit and emotions. This one really pulls at your hear strings and makes me want to run out and adopt a shelter dog. Great work, Camen! What a lovely ode.

First off to warn everyone I would pick a day when you do not have anything else to do because this is a hard book to put down.  I personally loved My Life With Snoopy by Joey Camen much more than I enjoyed Marley and Me.  This book just seemed more inspiring to me.  I would recommend this book to anyone who even moderately liked Marley and Me as well as to all dog lovers.

What an Adorable and Heartwarming Story I have a big love for animals and a soft spot for stories that explore the connections that form between people and the pets they love. So, when I ran across My Life with Snoopy I couldn't help but get the book and snuggle down into my reading chair with an eagerness to see how much the story would make me smile, sigh and tear up along the way. Author Joey Camen paints a beautiful picture of love, humor, pain and triumph as he and the endearingly cute Snoopy go through life with the best kind of friend that anyone can ask for. The book is well-written with a vivid imagery, a heartwarming tale and a flair for the adorable that made me laugh, cry and grin in equal turns. There's not much more to say than I really enjoyed the book and it's the kind of feel-good book that will bring a smile to anyone's face and make the dreariness of winter go away.

This is a heart warming tale of the relationship of a pound pup and his owner. Love is a such a powerful force... as evidenced in this book - it transcends all barriers and can cause emotional walls to tumble. Two souls - one man, one animal - both in need found one another and developed a profound and moving relationship. If you aren't moved by this book - you will need to check your pulse. I highly recommend it!
