My Life with the Walter Boys by Ali Novak

From a fresh new voice on the contemporary YA scene, My Life with the Walter Boys centers on the prim, proper, and always perfect Jackie Howard. When her world is turned upside down by tragedy, Jackie must learn to cut loose and be part of a family again.

Jackie does not like surprises. Chaos is the enemy! The best way to get her successful, busy parents to notice her is to be perfect. The perfect look, the perfect grades-the perfect daughter. And then...

Surprise #1: Jackie's family dies in a freak car accident.

Surprise #2: Jackie has to move cross-country to live with the Walters-her new guardians.

Surprise #3: The Walters have twelve sons. (Well, eleven, but Parker acts like a boy anyway)

Now Jackie must trade in her Type A personality and New York City apartment for a Colorado ranch and all the wild Walter boys who come with it. Jackie is surrounded by the enemy-loud, dirty, annoying boys who have no concept of personal space. Okay, several of the oldest guys are flat-out gorgeous. But still annoying. She's not stuck-up or boring-no matter what they say. But proving it is another matter. How can she fit in and move on when she needs to keep her parents' memory alive by living up to the promise of perfect?

Ali Novak wrote My Life with the Walter Boys when she was just 15 years old. First a hit on the online community Wattpad, this debut novel has already been read over 33 million times and is loved by readers around the world.

This book is so amazing, I recommend it to everyone! As I read a lot of young adult realistic fiction, this is so unlike anything I've read and is by far my favorite. I fell in love with it the minute I began reading it and even though it is 350 pages, I couldn't put it down and read it in one day. Stop reading reviews because I promise this book is worth reading!!

So I read this book on Wattpad when Ali had it uploaded it there, and it was one of my favorite books! I thought the plot and the whole  story was amazing! Then, understandably, she took it off when she began the process to publish it. I just received the book two days  ago and I am done with it. Of course I was ecstatic that I could read my Favorite book again, but i was a little let down with the published version of this book. Don't get me wrong, it was wonderful, though the newly published version had many different changes to the plot and story.  Small little plot changes like Isaac and Lee's family explanation, the full party and atv accident, the rain scene when they weren't caught by Mrs. Walter and big things like Jackie going back to New York, Cole and Alex running after her with Danny's plane ticket, Sammy visiting her in Colorado, the italian dinner with the kids, the vacation that the Walters took and many more. I was actually really looking forward too all those small things in the plot that I just want to go back and read the original and remind myself why I fell in love with this book. Because this book was so fun with all the boys and things that happened during the novel, that the published version made me a tad bit depressed that I didn't get to read my favorite parts. Yes, I still cried at the end of the book, I mean who wouldn't, it was perfect. Though, who ever edited this took out my favorite parts out of this novel and really great parts that added to this story. Bottom line; I was very upset with the outcome of this book when i didn't get to read my favorite parts that were taken out, and I now wish I had the original story that was put on Wattpad to read and that I had not bought this book since it was no where near great as the unpublished version Ali had. Although I disliked this published version, I am extremely happy that Ali got the book published! I just wish that when being edited they had not taken the best, in my opinion, parts of the book out. Though I do recommend someone who has not read this book yet, to buy it! Though, if you have read it on Wattpad, I probably would not read it since many of the parts are taken out and it would kind of be a disappoint, like it was to me.

“My life with the Walter boys” was an amazing book and I absolutely loved it.  The book was funny and sad and made me really feel what Jackie, the main character was feeling.   This book is perfect for young adults mostly girls but guys may like it. I fell in love with this book within the first ten minutes of reading it, I finished this book in two days because of how good it was.  The book doesn’t really get going till around the second chapter but after that it never stops. This was a phenomenal book and I would definitely recommend this book to everyone.  I really liked how the books main setting was in Colorado on a ranch because I personally love to go to ranches because I rarely ever get to go see a bunch of horses on a ranch, this book was really good in my opinion because of how much I could relate to it. I also like how the book makes a super organized, very strict in her manner girl and turns her into a daring girl who is not afraid to jump ;) when you read the book you’ll get that. I like how every time  I thought I knew which Walter boy she was going to choose it would take a turn and just prove me totally wrong,  I really like how at first the main conflict is between Jackie and herself but the farther into the book you get the more her conflict is between Jackie and the Walter boys.  This book is very good because it shows that no matter how much you want things to be planned and perfect they never will and I believe that that was the best lesson a person could get from a book because it is completely true, you can try and try but no matter what some one is always going to come along and just change it all around.  This is one of those books that you can read over and over again and I really recommend it to anyone looking for a good read.

I love my contemporaries and can never get enough of them, so My Life with the Walter Boys fulfilled its duty for me! I loved it! It's adorable and cute and fluffy and perfect if you're looking for a fairly light read. Although it may be a light read, it deals with real issues and is easily relatable. Highly recommend for contemporary lovers!

Oh my gosh!  Absolutely love this book, I remember when it was still on Wattpad and I've loved this book ever since then! I remember checking Wattpad daily in hopes that Ali would update, such an amazing writer, and the teenage viewpoint for this book is absolutely spot on! As a teen myself, I felt myself understanding and relating to Jackie's feelings, thoughts, and emotions as I couldn't help but read this page turner of a book!  Highly recommend this book!!

When I first saw this book, I was drawn in by the cover and the title, My Life With The Walter Boys.....Walter Boys......oh yeah, I thought, this is something I want to check out.  I have to say that I was absolutely delighted when I began to read it.  Though the reason behind what brings Jackie from the Heart of New York to what seems to be the middle of nowhere Colorado is tragic, the story itself it a gem....or more accurately put, at least in my opinion, are the subjects of the story, who are the actual Walter Boys themselves.  I absolutely adored them.  Eleven Boys and one girl who is a full- tomboy, and Jackie finds herself right in the middle of them.  Not only has she arrived in hottie heaven, each of the boys has such a unique personality that makes them special apart from the group as a whole.  You would think with so many characters it would be hard to keep up, but Ali Novak has done an excellent job in writing this character-driven story, enabling you to feel like you really know each of the boys, some better than others, but all nonetheless.  While the story itself is fun and cute, and it does have its serious moments, the boys are totally what make it.  I was so impressed by the way Novak portrayed not only each boy, but the banter between them was perfect - it totally sounded just like you would expect guys that age to sound like.  The the way the guys talked, the things they did and said, the way they acted - it could not have been more well done.   Jackie herself underwent a whole lot of changes as she learned to be part of the family, and of course you have to have the romance, which was entertaining also - I mean a house full of hotties, what can you expect.  You had more than one Walter Boy vying for her attention and I am happy to say that the one I was rooting for ultimately won out.  The ending of the book is somewhat open, yet not in a cliffhanger way at all, just leaving things at a point where the story can continue, while bringing the current book to a good closing point.  I am really looking forward to reading the next installment in the series and can't wait to see where Ali Novak takes the characters in the sequel.  Overall, I found My Life With The Walter Boys to be a like a ray of sunshine that was delightful, entertaining, lighthearted and just plain fun.  It is something I really enjoyed and would most definitely recommend to YA fans both old and young.

Last summer I read The Heartbreakers and absolutley loved it, much like I did this book. In My Life with the Walter Boys I felt as if I was Jackie, the main character. I just felt connected. I experienced the same emotions she did. This book is perfect for girls and women of all ages, but ecsepicially teenagers. Ali Novak is by far my favorite writer. This book is definitely worth the money!

My Life with the Walter Boys was a great young adult novel. It had its ups and downs in the lives of teenagers and showed courage, bravery, as well as compromise. Ali did an amazing job developing the characters and making it so that I could not put the book down. I stayed up so late reading this book so I could finish it and boy I am glad I did! It was a great book and I cannot wait to continue reading other books by Ali!

Once again, another Ali Novak read I enjoyed. Once again, I thought there wasn't enough story. In 350 pages there wasn't enough story, you might ask. Well, there was also a relationship with twelve siblings, plus friends, and a dead family to address. Let's start with Jackie's dead family. We hardly got details about them, really. In the beginning of the book she was about to leave for Colorado, so it's not like we got to know them through dialogue and stuff. We actually don't find out a whole lot of detail about her life in New York. To be fair, the book mentioned her family fairly frequently, and sure, she does grieve. I understand this is supposed to be two months later, but I feel that's definitely not enough time for the death of her entire family to be more of a scar than a wound already, which is what it felt like to me. Next, twelve siblings. We did get to know them all a bit, but I felt like there was still stuff missing. There were scenes that were alluded to, but weren't actually in the book. I felt like there was some behind the scenes sort of stuff I was missing out on. Not that it affected the story, really, but still. I wanted more. I hoped for more with Parker especially. Seeing as how she was the only girl in the family, I wanted her and Jackie to get closer. She was hardly mentioned until one point in the middle of the book and then one (granted good) point at the end. Next, friends. This wasn't as big of a deal, I guess, but there wasn't really much about the friends she made, or the one she left behind. There were two phone calls from her former best friend and a handful of meetings with her new ones. On to what I did like, because the pros really outweighed those cons for me. The story line was great, all the scenes were great, the writing was good. Her relationship with all the Walter family members was beautiful, although, come to think of it, there wasn't a whole lot about the dad, George. I love how there were certain unique things that connected her to the boys individually. They had different passions and traits in common. She earned their friendship and trust and I love how they all stepped up as brothers and protectors of her. I loved the love triangle. It developed so naturally, and it was actually kind of obvious in a good way. Both boys made sense for different reasons, and it was nice to see both of those relationships play out. While it ended amicably, I will admit I was expecting more romance, though the very ending is still pretty good. In closing, I feel like there might have been more in the original wattpad book, or if not, there should have been, but it was still a great book. Also, I hope there's a sequel!!!

I read this book while it was still on Wattpad and it became one of my favorite books. I haven't read the published version, but if it is half as good as the original, you will be falling off your chair with laughter.
