My Princess Bible by Andy Holmes, Sergey Eliseev

My Princess Bible is based on the popular format of My Pajama Bible. The new board book combines princess-like art of women of the Bible with art more reflective of the modern-day princesses who will learn of biblical women.
My Princess Bible shares stories of 19 women of the Bible through a rhyming story and a short takeaway summary in prose. Each story ends with two lines that remind the reader of valuable character traits of a princess; the little princesses are even encouraged to recite the learning of the biblical princess using her name in the blank instead: “________ is God’s special princess; ________ is sad when she does something bad” (the takeaway from the story of Eve). This format helps children see biblical women as princesses who teach us about godly principles. It also helps reinforce that the little girl reader is special and seen as a princess because she is created by God. The final story (number 20) is taken from Psalm 139 and features the reader as the godly princess. It reminds the reader that princesses are daughters of the King and are loved by God. Little girls will love to read My Princess Bible over and over to learn about God’s princesses.

I received a great book from Tyndale recently to review that is my personal favorite of all the books I have reviewed. This one has made for some great bedtime reading with my youngest daughter. I have owned and read many story bibles but this one makes the stories very personal for my daughter. Each story focus on a character trait and then has you use your daughters name in a sentence with that trait. This was a great way to reinforce the point of the story as well as edify my little girl. Each story also ended with a fill in the blank of ____ is God's special princess. What a great book to help train up daughters and granddaughters to know that they are special in God's eyes. Another great part of the book is that there is some women of the bible mentioned that don't always get a lot of press. Which lead to my little one being interested to know more about these women. I would recommend this book as a gift to any young little girl. It is a great read along, to be shared for years to come.

Since this is not my usual fair when reviewing, I asked my daughter to help me review My Princess Bible, published by Tyndale House Publishers. My Princess Bible is an interesting take on telling the stories of biblical women. My daughter found the pictures to be entertaining and the stories were easy to read. She is in first grade but reads at a much higher grade level, so the stories were not really challenging for her. The biggest issue I have with this book is that it could feed into what we refer to in our family as "the princess complex." There are far too many girls out there believing they are a princess, when in reality, they are just spoiled. My wife and I work very hard to combat this attitude, and a book published by a Christian publishing house that promotes this idea, even with a 'God's princess' twist, is still somewhat difficult to adapt to. That is not to say the book promoted bad values, because it did not. But it could provide some fodder for this complex in the lives of some girls.

** I recieved this book for free from Tyndale for being a book blogger** When I recieved this bible through mail and opened up the package what caught my eyes at first was the beautiful sparkles and color and illistration on the front cover. I thought my little girls will love this !! I opened up the bible and started to read and I loved how the stories are told of God's princesses and how each story at the end has a place where your daughter can place her name and also be envolved in the book and makes her feel like she is one of God's princesses too. I couldn't wait to give it to my girls and when I did their eyes lit up and said "Oh how beautiful!" They than took it and read it and they also loved the stories & illistrations. I think this bible would be a great gift for any little girl, it is a boardbook so it will not tear easy and can be wiped off in case of any little accidents that may happen.

'My Princess Bible' by Andy Holmes and illustrated by Sergey Eliseev caught my attention as I have a little girl who adores all things Princesses. I loved the idea of celebrating God's princesses throughout the Bible and drawing the connection that we too can be God's princesses for little girls. The book is beautifully illustrated with images of God's princesses from the Bible and pictures of young girls as princesses. My little girl loved picking out the princess that looked most like her in the book. The cover in pink and sparkly, what little girl wouldn't want to look through it! The book covers 19 Bible stories of various women and a last one featuring us, the readers. The scripture reference is provided as is a rhyming text summary of the story picking up on one main teaching lesson of what made this woman a princess in God's eyes, like being a good helper, telling the truth and being giving for some examples. There is also a place to personallize the book after each story with your child's name. While I like the book and concept I do wish the story summaries weren't so brief and simplistic. It seems substance of story was compromised so that a simple rhyming text could be accomplished. I'd rather the stories didn't try to rhyme; just a well written summary of these stories would work for me. I received a free copy of this book from Tyndale Publishing's book review program. The opinions expressed in this review are my own and I was not required to provide a positive review.

With pink glitter on the front, this book definitely is girly. The pages are square and hard--reminiscent of cardboard children's books but of finer quality. Several key women of the Bible are introduced. Short Bible verses are given, as well as quick synopses of what the women did and why they are "special." There is also space in the book for a girl's name to be inserted into blanks to correlate them to the princesses. This book is great for girls of all ages. Also, the pictures are fun and drawn with excellent talent. In the beginning, there are even drawings of little girls in princess costumes from several different races. Overall, this is a cute book that is quick to read. It will make readers feel like princesses themselves!
